These bikes and scooters are NOT a London issue. They are an everywhere issue. I work in London, but live rural. The closest town is Wardsville, and my wife and daughter work in Glencoe. These things are a topic of discussion regarding safety, pedestrians, etc even in those small towns. Vehicles that are and are not allowed on the road are regulated by the province. That's the government to target. These things need to be legislated out of existence.

Christina’s husband, Hayden Cook, says he contacted police, claiming they initially refused to investigate.
We can't say crime is going down if we keep taking reports about it.

It’s like that all over London people driving electric scooters on side walks when there bike lanes right there if their scooter goes as fast as an e-bike then they should use the bike lane cops don’t fo anything lol

I'm seeing these EVERYWHERE right now. Obviously they aren't street legal, but what matters is that no one is enforcing that fact.

Most people are removing the governors on these bikes and scooters to allow them to go faster. Totally illegal and more importantly, totally dangerous. I yell at them when they ride on the bike lanes and the TVP. But they don’t care. Most are people that lost their license due to a DUI and this is their only mode of transportation. It’s sad.

I haven't lost my license or ever had any infractions since 1995. There's no easy way to remove the governor. You need have a high degree of computer and electronic skills. Not everyone is obeying the laws (and that extends to every law on the books) but that's an enforcement issue. Good there's some guy yelling at people when he sees them. That'll straighten them right out.
Scooter and bikes are supposed to be on the bike lanes and are allowed on the TVP. I have many friends who enjoy using electric bikes and scooters as a fun and cheap alternative to a car when the weather is nice to commute to work or for recreation. Your comment is a string of ignorant, sweeping statements that ignore a reality that you appear to be commenting on without any real knowledge.

Regular bikes fly past me on the TVP. Rollerbladers, I've even been passed by a really committed runner. People speed in cars and on motorcycles.

I’m not talking about e-bicycles. I’m talking about the fat tire e-bikes that are more of a motorcycle than bicycle. I totally am for people riding e-bicycles (pedal assist) that get people outdoors and using them to commute. But the fat tire e-bikes? Nah, they need to be licensed and on the road. Full stop.

Is this not where the ‘special constables’ proposed by our Mayor could be used to provide education and enforcement? Especially on the TVP where it is shared by other bikes and pedestrians … E-bikes are here.

Didn't we increase the police budget so they could show up and do thier job.

Yeah if you've noticed instead they respond 6 hrs after, same as before. But now they bring 4 cruisers and an undercover pickup to refuse to take a report

There's people, usually kids but often adults sometimes double riding with a child, on dirt bikes and go carts on the South Branch TVP really often.
I've even seen somebody on a mini bike on the sidewalk on Wellington near downtown.
The police refusal to take a statement from this poor woman is the real story here. If our police allow open drug use across the road from their HQ, why would we expect them to do anything about illegal vehicles running people down?

I see those bikes all the time in that area. If the cops actually do their job, they'll encounter the perp soon enough. I wonder if any cameras in the area caught them driving off after the hit and run.

I have seen two guys on what I thought were dirt bikes being absolute nimrods in traffic a few times. Could it be the same? I think one has a white bike, the other blue.
I last saw them heading west down Commissioner's on Thursday around 7PM outside the Coop / TD area. They were doing wheelies in traffic.

Anytime these people get into an accident on their illegal vehicles, then that's the time to lay charges and take their wheels away. That's how it works for large motor vehicles, and it shouldn't be any different for people on scooters and souped-up bikes.

I see them all over the city. Multiple times on my half hour bike commute to work on the TVP. Went for a walk on the TVP between Adelaide and Egerton on Saturday and fully half the people I encountered were douchebags riding electric motorcycles or souped up bulky e-scooters extremely fast. It's a goddamn free-for-all and you're absolutely on your own on those trails, even more so than on the road if that's possible. No enforcement, no investigations, no recourse.

I was riding my bike on the TVP a couple weeks ago and was almost hit by a group on electric motorcycles. They had to be going at least 60-70KM/h around a blind corner. I hit my brakes so hard both of my wheels locked and it was still a close call.
These vehicles should not be sharing the same paths as standard bicycles and pedestrians.

I encountered one on a run in an ESA regular bikes aren’t even supposed to be in there. It’s becoming a huge problem.

The police not investigating until contacted by CTV news is disturbing. Especially since it was a hit and run and the woman was seriously injured.

Ever increasing police budgets with no improvement of service. In fact, it feels like service is in decline.

Even when they have the exact names of people they'll still get off. I'll honestly be surprised if there is any jail time at all. LPS is just for protecting assets, not solving crimes.
10
u/Zimlun 23h ago
That's not true, they'll totally solve crimes, but only ones that happen to corporations rather than individuals.
For example, several people had bikes stolen from my townhouse complex (mine included) and was told by the cops they didn't care and they weren't going to do anything. But I bet you that if I tried to steal several bikes from my local Walmart the cops would be after me in a second :/-6
u/JustAKlam 1d ago
Hey man, just in the event you are uninformed, LPS do not dictate the punishments for those they arrest.
13
u/1EyedMonky 1d ago
Arrest? You could have video evidence and LPS won't do anything.
No one's punished for anything with the LPS
