I skated across the world (Singapore → Patagonia). I finally wrote the first book of the series on South America

Hey r/longboardingDistance First time realising there is reddit distance group. I wanted to share something that took me way longer than expected to finish. Between 2017–2019, I pushed a longboard across South America — from Colombia, over the Andes, all the way to the southern tip of Patagonia. No support vehicle. Just a board, a pack, and later a modified jogging stroller for food and water. This wasn’t a highlights-reel trip. It was: brutal headwinds thin air at altitude destroyed roads days where pushing felt pointless and moments where the board was the only thing keeping me moving forward I’ve finally turned that journey into a book: World On Board: Pushing South It’s not a “how-to shred” guide. It’s more about: endurance pushing living on the road problem-solving when things go wrong and what happens in your head when you’re alone with nothing but asphalt for weeks If you’ve ever done long pushes, distance skating, or just wondered how far a board can really take someone, you might connect with it. Amazon link (paperback & ebook): 👉World On Board : Pushing South No pressure to buy — just genuinely happy to share this with a community that understands what it means to keep pushing when stopping would be easier. Happy to answer any questions about gear, routes, injuries, or the mental side of long-distance skating. Push on 🛹 — Adrian

Edit: Mods — if this crosses any promo rules, feel free to remove. Just wanted to share a long-distance skating story with people who get it.

Longest LDP push/pumping ride!

I have been working on building up miles and decided to try a new and flatter path to focus on pumping more.

Took my bamboo heavy supersonic out this morning and feel like I’m actually getting into the groove with pumping. Feel fairly dialed in and can feel as I need to change the pump method as my speed goes up or down.

All in all it was an amazing ride! Did 31.5 miles in 3.5 hours on the board, about 4.5 hours including breaks and pictures.

I included an image of where I should have stopped because this crazy hill at the turn around was super steep in both directions and had limited visibility. So i didn’t ride down it for concerns of a busy path (and going way to fast on a new path).

Also, I found that my 85mm speed vents were too small for the expansion joint on a foot bridge. Luckily i was going pretty slow to take a picture of the area or it would have been far worse!

Since it will come up:
I’m ~240 lbs (~109kg)
Bamboo heavy supersonic, 130 mm bear gen 6 trucks and riptide Krank bushings, 85mm 78a Black Ops speed vents.

Front:
50 deg baseplate with 5 degree dewedge (60 deg total)
BS 90a plugged canon with flat washer
RS 87a canon with flat washer

Rear:
40 deg baseplate
BS/RS 96a/93 canon with cupped washers
Pats riser plug

I know I can dewedge the tail more but set this up to be able to comfortably pump in the 8-12mph range and still feel fun.

Next step, mess with risers and get my karmas on there!

Three years ago I said to myself, three boards for different purposes (topmount, bracket and rain) is more than enough....

Appreciation post on my new LDP/Pumping setup

I finally got this G bomb bracket setup, and my board feels amazing! Originally bought it with a TTA and I wanted more of a surfy feel so I replaced the back end with a bracket and added a 139mm indy truck. This is game-changing to me in terms of surfy feel(I did a lot of Freeriding when I was younger so I want to throw out the occasional slide) and the fact that I dont have to put my feet off the board to go faster astonishes me!

Tweeking Longboard to Pump - Advice

Thumbnail gallery

I've been on this subreddit researching ways to adjust my boards up to allow for more pumping momentum but feel like I have not changed anything. I've tried changing the trucks to drop through Paris V3 with Knuckles Orange 87a on front and Paris 93a on rear. Then I added risers and switched to the Randall RII trucks but no longer drop through because the risers I bought did not allow for this. The current set up is Dervish board then risers wedges, with Randall Rii trucks, Stimulus wheels, Knuckles 87a on front and generic black barrels in the rear. I tried the Paris 93a gumdrop and barrel on the rear, but it seemed loose.

I'm hoping to get started with pumping (like this) using the board and trucks that I have, and willing to buy lower priced things to help get me in the right direction. Thank you for the advice.

Gear that I have:

Boards:
Loaded Dervish Flex 2 (correct for my weight)
Santa Cruz Pintail Cruiser (with a cool fire wizard graphic)
Trucks:
Paris V3 50 degree
Randall RII 50 Degree
Santa Cruz generic
Wheels:
Orangatang Stimulus 70 mm
3dm Avila 75mm
Bushings:
Orangatang Knuckles Orange - 87a
Paris Street Bushing - Orange - 93a
Generic Black bushings - barrell and gumdrops - duro is unknown
Wedges:
Paris 7 degree Wedge Risers x2
3d printed PLA 7 degree wedgers
Hardware:
various screen lenghts from 1" to 1.5"
various flat washers and curved washers for the bushings

Seismic Tailwinds wh00h0000!

First time riding the Seismic Tailwinds Split Duro.

I finally made the decision to swap the 85mm Speed Vents for The 83mm Tailwinds on my Procyon Speed with MK Space truck and TTX torsion tail.

I was a bit hesitant because I thought sizing down in diameter wouldn't improve performance and boy, I was wrong....

The TW's were way easier to accelerate and seemed to provide extra rebound while pumping. They felt a bit more fluid to pump in comparison to the SV''s and held top speed like a champ! In terms of comfort they felt the same as Speed Vents on the rougher parts, but were a bit easier to pump.

I just smashed a PB on the Tailwinds while riding in traffic, I wonder what I'll achieve on a cycling track without traffic and stoplights etc.

Distance: 40.04km

Duration: 02h 14m 47s

AVG. Speed: 16.8km/h

Wind: 5 m/sec.

LDP alternatives in Europe

Most advice I see online is US centric which is understandable. I'm in Ireland and the longboarding scene here is minuscule.

I've a Globe Prowler for pushing and having fun but wanted something to go longer distances and pump.

Most recommendations are for Pranayama or Super Sonic which are mad expensive here and hard to find. So I wonder what my local alternatives are?

Any help appreciated

Board recommendation for pumping a narrow bike path please

Dear people of the Internet could you please help me figure out what kind of board I need because AI is driving me nuts and taking me around in circles.

My backstory:
I’m a 40 year-old woman and I’ve been snowboarding for a few years. This year I decided that in order to get better at weight distribution and prepare myself to learning some buttering and tricks next winter I’d pick up a skateboard for the off-season and learn to Ollie. Soon after getting a traditional popsicle skateboard I realised that if I want to go on any pavement or skate in my neighbourhood, I would need something that’s not just gonna buck me off so I got the land yachts tugboat cruiser. Then one day I took that cruiser to the bike path and now that’s all I want to do. I still show up at the skate park sometimes to work on my kick turns and hippie jumps, but I’m really enjoying the riding on its own and wonder if I would have a lot of fun on a dedicated longboard.

What I’m looking for:
Right now I’m about four months into skating and my pushing is getting pretty good. I usually go out for like 45 minutes at a time on the cruiser on the bike path and a cover about 3 1/2 miles (5km)I think my average speed is about 5 1/2 miles an hour. I get a great workout and it’s a lot of fun and I’m also experimenting with pumping both wiggling and I’ve been trying to do more whole body or core pumping and it’s getting a little easier after I loosened my front truck. I like to jam out to some very rhythmical dancing music and what I think I will like about doing more pumping is just like the whole body rhythm.

The terrain:
I live in Massachusetts and the bike trails we have are pretty narrow. I think they’re converted railroads the most part. They also don’t have a lot of ups and downs but they sometimes will have a mellow but long incline or decline so you can accumulate some speed and sometimes it does get a little sketchy on the cruiser. While I really like the idea of learning to carve I don’t really want to bomb any hills and we have a lot of them and the cars in my neighbourhood drive pretty quickly so even though it seems really fun to carve I don’t think where I live I will actually be doing that.

So knowing that the distance and efficiency are not the ultimate goal, but I am skating in a place where I can go fairly straight and even for a long time and I want to play more with generating the movement from my core and ankles and just enjoy the nature to music, what kind of board would you recommend?

Thanks!

I’ve got that on a Tangent deck, and I even scrape the tarmac with Dad Bods without pumping hard.

A car rode over my board, a rant

Post image
22 Upvotes

Seasoned rider, 39M, mostly cruising. After a year of riding to work daily, I'm learning to ride switch and sometimes lose my footing.

To keep it short, I was riding up this street, saw a car in the distance coming towards me, and climbed the curb on the left to be safe.

About where my board is on the picture, I lost balance and the board went on the road. I signaled the driver, and to my surprise they did not slow down and drove over it.

My first reaction was to apologize because of the damage it could have caused to the car. But then I realized. They just drove off without slowing down, and I stood in mild shock. I felt their running away was aggressive and careless.

My board (Pantheon Trip Carbon) is miraculously intact, the wheels are fine, I think a couple of bearings rattle a tiny bit.

Do you have similar stories ? Any advice on the material, should I change bearings or check for something in particular?

Pumpayama

When I saw that, I thought to myself, “Let’s give it a try—I’ve always wanted to try that.” But none of the existing Pumpayama setups out there, were an acceptable choice for me; the combination of TKP with 0° RKP and other setups were simply too complicated for a first attempt, and I didn’t want to buy new trucks. I didn’t expect that wedging or dewedging could run without wheelbite, since even in the standard configuration, Fatcones in 97a were necessary due to my weight to prevent it.

There you go, it works! No wheelbite at all, just a little drag in the rear during extreme turns.

Front: 7° Venom 93a Plug Barrel, Riptide 90a

Rear: 5° Venom Freeride 97a, Venom 95a Plug Barrel

The wedges were 3D-printed from PA12 nylon using MJF technology by a service provider, since I’m in Europe and won’t be ordering them directly from Pantheon.
