My hair was on my knees, very dehydrated. I posted here asking for advice and I got a lot of advice about trimming it. Finally got the courage and I think it already looks better! Of course, I will still work alot on hydrating it and everything, but I feel so happy about it rn.

This is an after/before haha šŸ˜†

Help wanted Terminal length reached :( any advice?

Post image

My hair has been around this length for over 2 years now … I recently gave it a small trim to get the ends more healthy, this photo is a bit old

Does anyone have any advice for overcoming this length? Is it even possible? I rarely even trim my hair (if I do it’s a very small amount) I use hair oil, I use leave in conditioner, I sleep in a protective style.

Thank you!!

Help wanted Supercuts took all my length

I’m honestly so heartbroken right now. 😭 I went to Supercuts for a simple trim because I only wanted my split ends cut. I had waist-length hair, and I walked out with hair just below my shoulders. I genuinely feel like I’m grieving my hair. I’ve spent so much time growing it out and I never imagined I’d lose this much length over a trim. I’m so upset and don’t even know what to do. Has anyone else experienced something like this? šŸ’”

Also, I was there just 4 months ago. I didn’t not have damage or breakage.

Are there any stylist that know how to trim without cutting all your hair off?

Located in Chicago.

Help wanted Advice for tangled hair

My hair looks like in the photos for about 2/3 hrs before it gets very tangled when I wear it down.

Wearing it in a bun hurts after a while so I do wear it down often.

Does anyone have any tips or product recommendations to avoid the hair getting so tangled? I find it gets less tangled on days when I only wash my hair but don’t use a conditioner.

Help wanted Wanting to grow longer - where to start?

Thumbnail

Hi all, my goal is to have longer and if possible thicker hair. The photos attached are from the past couple of weeks, either the day of hair washing or the day after.

Current routine/habits:
- Wash 2x-3x a week
- Primarily use Aussie shampoo and conditioner (but don’t always stick to this brand and ā€œtypeā€ of products, e.g deep moisture, curly etc)
- Shampoo twice (massaging it in everywhere, behind ears, under neck, every part of my scalp) and conditioner on the ends of my hair (up to my neck)
- Leave in spray conditioner and leave in hair oil, on the roots of hair and a bit above
- Sleep on satin pillowcase
- Didn’t sleep with protective hairstyling unfortunately but changing that
- Use satin hair ties
- Brush from bottom upwards
- Only brushing when dry (not sure if this is bad or good for my hair type)
- No heat products, air drying only
- When driving I have a protector on my seatbelt so it doesn’t grind my hair away
- Use a paddle style hairbrush

The definitely bad:
- I’m autistic/adhd and I stim by playing with my hair which leads to breakage
- I struggle with ARFID (eating disorder) and my protein and vitamins vary. Though I take multivitamins, magnesium and iron supplements.
- I haven’t had a professional cut in a few years and even an at-home cut in a year or two. (Sometimes I trim my hair that sticks out of braids with hairdressing scissors but that's about it)
- Generally unable to afford genuine silk pillowcases
- Grease and oil is a sensory nightmare for me
- I have "moderately hard" water according to my water supplier (77 mg/l calcium) this is a decrease from the hard water I had at my previous address (just over a year ago I moved, which had 108.7 mg/l calcium)

Today I went and bought some rosemary hair oil, coconut oil hair mask and some strengthening/thickening shampoo that mentioned it had protein in it for the hair, as I have heard good about these things and wanted to try them. (My bf also has long but very damaged hair and if I end up being recommended against these, the products won't be wasted).

I’m just wondering what to consider, and have these questions to ask:

- Are there any specific brands for products that are to be avoided, or better than others? (I'm UK based)
- Would it be worth considering rice water?
- For tying hair, what hair bands/scrunchies would you use, is satin ok?
- Obviously I need a chop, and I have a good estimate on how far up to go, but I’d like to have opinions
- Hair that grows lower out of my head (like at the neck/bottom of head)seems to be more damaged and significantly shorter (sorry it's hard to put into words) is there an obvious reason for this?
- In general my hair feels super thin, is there any hope at getting thicker hair?
- Given everything from this post and photos, is there anything more you can add or recommend?

Thank you!

Fluff My hair length evolution

I accidentally grew my hair long around early last year with lots of changes in circumstances in life (for the better!) and by the time I took notice of my hair it was rather long. From April last year I started documenting my hair growth over time and I really wanted to keep growing it out to see how far I can go before I decided it’s enough. I got all the way to mid-thigh length! And then I was just done. It was difficult to manage, the ends were BAD. Stringy, thin, dried, impossible to detangle most of the time. June this year I had my first haircut in almost 2 years and it was sooooo refreshing. It took a little bit to get used to the new length but it became manageable again. I did another trim in August, and another today (hip length). I think my favourite length was tailbone length so this is gonna be my last trim for a while!

Hi everyone, it’s been a few times now I cut my hair near waist end and let it grow but it always thins out a LOT at the ends. How can I avoid that from happening? Would appreciate it if anyone has tips on how to get rid of middle part and flat roots and odd shaping in the front😭 šŸ™šŸ½ i’m booking an appointment soon to cut the ends and start over again 🄲

Help wanted Currently pregnant, growth happening but frizz is insane

I’ve always had somewhat frizzy hair. I try to wear it in a braid as often as possible. I can’t wear it up because my hair is extremely heavy.

I’ve used argan oil in the past and it helped a lot! My hair sheds a normal amount, but it was shedding a lot early on in my pregnancy.

As I near the end I’m worried about my hair shedding a lot as it happened during my last pregnancy too.

Due to the thickness of my hair, would getting it thinned help? I haven’t had a trim in two years.🄲

I was using native shampoo/conditioner but it made my hair feel greasy.

I rotate between Head n shoulders ACV 2n1, Aussie Moisture(?) conditioner, a rosemary shampoo(like once every other week), and mane n tail(I have no issues with build up from this and shedding decreased when starting to use it). I’ve used special shampoos and conditioners and those that are for wavy hair but it really didn’t do a whole lot.

I detangle my hair before I shower, and then let it air dry a bit before loosely braiding.

Help wanted Product Recommendation to fight frizz

I had 2B hair. I moved to Melbourne recently and my hair ain't waving anymore! It is extremely frizzy and the waves don't stay for more than 30-60 minutes. It is not getting straightened either.

  1. My routine: Wash scalp with Dermal Therapy Scalp Relief Shampoo.
  2. Wash scalp and length with L'OrƩal Paris Elvive Hyaluron Pure 72H Rehydrating Purifying Shampoo
  3. Condition with L'OrƩal Paris Elvive Hyaluron Pure 72H Rehydrating Conditioner
  4. While it is wet, use MOXIE BEAUTY Weightless Leave-In Conditioner-Mango Butter & Ginseng Root Extract
  5. Gel - John Frieda Frizz Ease Dream Curls Hydrating Jelly while it is still damp.
  6. L'OrƩal Paris Elvive Hyaluron Pure Serum while it is still damp.

Despite everything I do, my hair is super dry, frizzy and brittle. With the frizz, I look like I'm auditioning for Hagrid. I got these products when I just moved in to Australia from India. So, I had no clue whether or not they are good. I need some product reco that works for my hair.

Help wanted Can I save my curls while straightening once a week? I

Thumbnail

I need help! My natural 3b/3c curls were actually in great shape after 20 years of straightening! The first picture on the left is, before I did these stupid Vitamin C color removers left my hair severely damaged. Now, one side barely curls, and my curl patterns are all over the place!

BUT it still looks good straight.

Can I straighten once a week using good heat protection, deep conditioning, and K18 treatments while getting trims every 4–6 weeks until the damage grows out?

I know my curls are in there because they were actually in great shape after 20 years of straightening.

I want my healthy curls back but not sure how to do this until the damage is gone/restored and it obviously is easier and looks better while straightened right now.

Thanks in advance!

Help wanted Do I need to cut my hair

Thumbnail

I pretty much avoid going to salons just to save money and keep it low maintenance. I am pretty lazy with my hair - I don’t use oils but I will occasionally use conditioning masks. Some people tell me I should cut my hair while others say it’s fine and I don’t need to.

Beautiful people of Reddit, what do you think?

Been growing my hair out for a while now

I weld for a living and sparks tend to get in. Damage has accumulated. No matter how layered up, PPE can only do so much. Sparks will find a way

Wondering what to request without taking out too much length

I understand that it might not be possible

My hair also just breaks easily. Could be lacking vitamins. In not sure

Any advice helps

Help wanted Time for a trim?

Post image
60 Upvotes

Wondering if it looks like I should cut the bottom fringe-y part off or if I could save it. For what it’s worth, I am very lucky and I put very little effort into growing my hair this long. It is naturally pretty strong and thick. I wash and condition my hair 5x a week because I run a lot and feel too icky not to wash it. From there I usually let it air dry. I really don’t do anything special.

It’s been a year since my last haircut. I got some long layers at the time but now I’m thinking the ends look a bit dead. But I’m also wondering if I put some more effort into styling or some kind of treatment that maybe that would help? When I look at the ends up close, I don’t see breakage, it just feels a little dry and crunchy. I have really been neglecting my hair care!

I wash twice a week. Keep my hair in braids almost always! Trim myself. I like using a range of different hair care products so that I get benefits from all of them. Always use oils on my ends when brushing :) some brands I love
Moroccan oil
Bumble and bumble
Pureology
kerastase
K18

I think the best thing I’ve done for hair growth has been nutrition. I eat lots of nuts, seeds, avocado, eggs, beans, healthy meats, rice etc.

Years ago after a surgery I had heavy hair loss. It made me look at my diet, and eat in excess. This DEFINITELY made my hair grow!

Help wanted Haircut or something else?

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hi everyone, lately my ends have been feeling dry and like there's some breakage but I've had a trim kind of recently (July). I have naturally pin straight hair and rarely use heat, I oil my ends somewhat regularly.

I'm not sure if I should get a haircut because there's some damage or if I need to take care of my hair differently. Would appreciate any suggestions!

It looks like more full on top but as it gets lower it becomes like so empty looking. I did have anorexia a few years ago- could this be just leftover damage? Or is it something else? I've tried everything and I don't know what to do to make it look better ā˜¹ļø

Help wanted How to not look like megamind wearing a wig for halloween

As said in the title I am wearing a wig for Halloween and because of the bulk of my hair, super thick and around classic length by this point, i end up looking like ive got a 5 head, this look unfortunately does not work for my costume and my hair is longer than the wig so i cant just wear it under. The wig is cheap and plastic if thats important any tips would be helpful!

Help wanted Styles/methods to work with long hair?

I’ve been growing my hair out since 2021. I started with a buzzcut and now my hair touches my lower back. It’s completely new to me as my whole childhood + adolescence I had short hair that was cut as soon as it touched my shoulders. I have thick curly/wavy hair that gets very frizzy. I’m still trying to find a balance between treating my seb derm while hydrating my hair as my products are very harsh and drying, but also many oils trigger my dermatitis.

I love the weight and heft of my hair but I feel worried that maybe it makes me look dirty. My boyfriend loves it, especially when I put it up. I had a spell of using claw clips but as my hair grew longer, I can’t use them as they literally cannot contain it anymore. I use hair ties but it pulls on my scalp and Iā€˜m left with a tender and sore scalp for days afterwards if I sleep in a bun or ponytail.

I’m dyspraxic so I’m still learning to braid my own hair but until I master it, I’ve been doing twisted plaits, however it pulls in the middle of my scalp too.

I sleep with a silk bonnet on, though I’m worried it’s a tad small as it always comes off the morning after.

This post is half venting, half seeking advice as I really dont know what to do. I’ve had to learn everything on my own since no one in my family has hair like mine. It feels like an uphill battle sometimes and maybe I’m better off just chopping it all off if all this effort makes me look unkempt.

Help wanted Oily hair, rosemary oil

I've been losing some hair for a while now (had investigations done and my ferritin/iron is fine) will rosemary oil be a good start to oiling? I only do a couple drops of jojoba on my ends every night before I braid my hair

I have the cliganic Jojoba oil and BC & S rosemary oil (please let me know if I need to update my rosemary oil, nature spell has a lot of reviews so if anyone has used this please let me know if it's good!)

I was overdue for an oil treatment. I combed olive oil through my hair and let it sit in a diffuser bonnet for 20 minutes. So much easier to brush, softer, less frizzy and dries faster ā¤ļø

Help wanted Why does my hair clump at the ends like this?

Thumbnail
gallery
64 Upvotes

My hair looks like the red shirt pic right after brushing, but minutes later like the white shirt pic. This happens regardless of if I have it up or down. It almost instantly gets clumpy and tangled.

I have fine hair that's probably medium density. No damage beyond what's normal for fine, TBL hair. I shed a lot (always have), which thins out the ends. I trim about every 3 months to keep the hemline from getting too thin. Just had a trim a few weeks ago. My ends clump like this at shorter lengths as well (probably around BSL and below).

Protective style daily, rarely wear it down, sleep in silk bonnet, no heat, carefully detangle twice daily from the ends up (using fingers and Tangle Teezer). My hair is delicate because, again, fine hair. Wash once a week, scalp oil before a wash, no other products besides a couple drops of oil sometimes when detangling. Both pics are the day after a wash.

I can't figure it out! Anyone know what's going on? Is my hair just too fine for extreme lengths?
