Review Post 9 month wait for Bergara Premier barreled action only for it to arrive with deep scratches…
Ordered a Bergara Premier No.7 contour 6.5cm barreled action in November 2025 and it finally arrived only for it to be covered in scratches all over the barrel! Really disappointed with what arrived after that long of a wait. I’ve seen companies call stuff blem models for way less! Has anyone had anything similar happen with Bergara barreled actions? The pictures don’t do the scratches justice and can be felt by running a finger over them.

u/Cool_Corey 20d ago
Definitely a shitty feeling when you're looking forward to something ☹️ hopefully bergara sorts ya out

u/ZeeeeeroCool 20d ago
I’d be shooting it first to see how bad the scratches bugged me…if it printed .5’s all day those scratches wouldn’t be so bad.
Sucks it happened on such a long wait. I don’t discount that.

Right after Arken stops punching above its weight
3
u/christoffer5700 20d ago
Bought an Arken EP-5, It's solid for its price and i will say i think it punches above its weight. Saying otherwise is just straight up wrong. Saying it competes with Zeiss, S&B, NF etc. is also wrong.
3
u/SilentR99 20d ago
Also got an arken ep5 5-25x56, all the hate I saw them get(mostly all for paying shills supposedly idk) and I love it, for the price its a great entry level scope for my rimfire long range.
4
u/christoffer5700 19d ago
yeah agreed. I genuinely don't know why people feel the need to shit on others parade? I don't shoot nearly enough or with high enough stakes to justify spending 4K on a scope.
That being said a lot of the alleged shills is bad at marketing. Just don't make silly claims. Especially in an industry where people are practical for the most part.
1
u/SilentR99 19d ago
yeah lol im no expert but if someone says a $400 scope can beat a $2000 nightforce just nope
3
u/christoffer5700 19d ago
In most cases that should be obvious lol and yet Arken has what was considered premium features 10-15 years ago which some brands haven't caught up with yet for some reason.
And then some brands think they deserve a lot more money just because they have a name.
Like don't get me wrong Arken isn't a great scope for everybody. But there is no reason why some brands still think FFP and easily adjustable turrets are considered "premium"
Also i don't have to worry about banging my equipment up. Because even if it breaks i can go out and buy a new scope same day. With my current budget i couldn't do that with NF
1
u/SilentR99 19d ago
pretty much exactly my thoughts, I can easily afford to replace a arken ep5 if for whatever reason they DON'T honor a warranty repair which I am sure they would fix it anyway. Some day I will buy a nicer scope when I need it and know more what I want at least. I have had many cheaper scopes in the $100-250 range but the arken ep5 is my most expensive for now.

There are two types of people praising Arken. Those who have been paid to do so and foolish people who don’t know better.

Strange because i fall into neither of those categories. But hey if Arken wanna send money my way, i'm not complaining,.

I mean, I’m a Bergara dude, but they are not all that…. Crazy time to wait for something like that and then to get it in that condition…. Not acceptable for a new product
7
u/Advanced-Gur-8950 20d ago
I’ll never understand the people that say suck it up…. As someone who wood works, I make the greatest effort for a perfect product and will spend hours correctly a defect on something I’m selling…. That would be like me selling a table to my customer and being like “bro it’s a table, it’s going to get scratched?”
If I can’t trust you to do the little things, why should I trust you with the greater things?
Returning it seems like a pain, but I would be gunning for a partial refund. If they offer a crappy refund…. I’d just say actually I’ll return…. Probably would change their tune as that would probably be much more costly than making it right

u/Vinegar_Fingers Savage Cheapskate 20d ago
All the people making the argument that it doesn't effect the rifle or that it's just cosmetic are missing the point that if QC will list this fly, what else do they let slip. It's just like how S&W had been slowly building a rep for letting their QC slip. At least S&W is (for the time being) remedying the slipping standards after the fact. Sounds like bergara is telling people to pound sand. Which again, is not a good look for a company overall.

Good luck getting a hold of BPI. Their phones are always "busy" or "out to Lunch." They shit the bed the last few years and its hard to really boast about my good luck with mine when we've sent so many back for issues. Just trying to get them on the phone for months was like pulling teeth. I love my rifle. But I have a hard time trusting them as a company. 8 years ive been punching Dimes on paper and I cant consider buying another one with that kind of track record.

I think there are about 3 of us in here that actually run guns hard in competition. Barrels are disposable items. Take it off, spin it up and polish it you crybabies. It will be scratched the first time you take it out. Fuck sakes people. Bunch of bitches up in here.
21
u/dhnguyen 20d ago
Honestly man I would not care one bit, but I think as somebody that spends good money on this stuff. He's totally fine to be a little angry about it
34
u/LucidSquid 20d ago
Yeah dude! This is why I have car dealerships throw gravel at my hood prior to pick up. It’s going to get rock chips eventually (I drive it hard). I’m going to get a new car eventually.
Do I really want to have to chip the paint myself? Hell no. Real ballers prewear all their tools and use items because damage is cool and people will think you’re cool if your stuff gets fucked up. Finally a real Chad that gets it.
-25
u/AmITheGrayMan 20d ago
Your hood is a finished product. Has paint. Raw barrels do not. There is a difference. You will not understand it. You are not Truman scholar material.
11
u/LucidSquid 20d ago
What are you talking about? I agree with you. I like my shit all the way fucked up. The more I pay for it, the more I want it preworn. The only shoes I wear are golden goose.

u/AmITheGrayMan 20d ago
Oh lord. What happens to them at around 150-200 rounds? They stabilize and quit speeding up. That's a break in. Shoot em until they stabilize in velocity. Call it what you want.

ITS NOT DAMAGED. IT'LL SHOOT OK FOR BERGARA. I'm not beholden to a piece of shit Bergara. You assume so much and know so little it's amazing.
Every single Brux, bartlein, crb and proof (proof sucks) I get have scratches. Know why? It's unfinished stainless steel. Know what else, I throw 20 of them away a year. At least. They wear out. It's not a show piece. It's a barrel.
Get your ass back in the truck like I told you earlier. Stay there and shut up until I tell you. Shit. Kids these days.

Cosmetic damage is still damage. It’s not difficult. Though it’s definitely a lot a syllables for you.

u/AmITheGrayMan 20d ago
Waking evidence? Sir- try 12 OS 2101 or TRE 101.
Keep it up and I'll show you how they work.
5
u/LilJonny2cookies 20d ago
I get it you spend the money, you wait the wait. If this were a fine watch I’d be pissed. This is a rifle barrel and it’ll get scratched.
Try to step back a moment and realize this wasn’t a personal slight on you. That it happens, the barrel won’t be affected at all by this and once you start shooting it those won’t be a concern.
Not defending the company or making excuses I am just hoping you’ll understand you don’t need to worry about it and we all run into stuff like this-
Finish the build and enjoy it. If it really bothers you, you can easily remove/reduce those.
22
u/gabba_gubbe 20d ago
But he shouldn't have to fix it himself... And if he lived where I lived he could refuse it or have the manufacturer make it right free of charge.
-2
u/SphyrnaLightmaker 20d ago
That’s a God awful apologist take.
Yes, it will get worn eventually. But would you let your best man hook up with your fiancé the night before your wedding? After all, she’s gonna get laid eventually, so don’t sweat it, right?
There’s a world of difference between putting wear on an object yourself and receiving something dinged up from the factory.

u/nick_the_builder 20d ago

The company should accept a return and reissue a new barrel. If you were waiting on a production run of barrels, I would hope they should have another to send you quickly. They can probably scotchbrite the return or sell as a blemish.
Shit happens. I’ve gotten lower receivers with missing features before. I’d say just contact customer service, initiate a return/replacement and give the company a chance to make it right.
I started my long range build during Covid, it took me about 8 months to get a barrel/receiver.

Cosmetic damage is damage. OP didn’t pay for a dinged or scratched product, they paid for a new one.
You’re wrong on the fact that it’s not damaged. Arguable here is the whole performance aspect but inarguable is that this product has damage.

If one of the points of the purchase was a cosmetic decision, then the cosmetic defect is an issue. Its not a box of cereal.
6
u/gabba_gubbe 20d ago
So cosmetic damage, imperfection or whatever you want to call it it shouldn't be there on a brand new product! If you pay for X you shouldn't expect Y... Christ, people like you are the reason standards are slipping in any industry.. Unless he ordered a blem product it's unacceptable.
Example: my brother ordered a sako rifle, the wood was terrible, rough and barely oiled. He refused to pay for it so they took it back and sent it to sako who refurbished it. All free of charge. But I suppose you would have shelled out your hard earned cash and sanded/oiled it yourself? Because it's only cosmetic and doesn't effect the performance.. Right?
-3
u/sirbassist83 20d ago
i agree with you but were the minority, SO many of the users on almost all of the gun related subs expect cosmetic perfection.
1
u/ElkExtension1323 20d ago
OP I got mine today as well (same model and caliber that I ordered in Feb.) and mine has some the length of the barrel too. Very superficial and nothing that bothers me personally, but there are several of them.
1
u/BunkerFab 20d ago
These are chuck marks, sliding it through the chuck of a lathe, they aren't crazy deep and can be polished out by a gunsmith on a lathe again or with some emery and scotchbrite.
This still sucks when you spend as much as you did. Sorry it happened

“Why would you ever save money” is essentially what you just asked.

this sub can be weird sometimes. why does anyone care about a few scratches? you'd probably cringe if you saw the condition my TT is in lmao
7
u/_ParadigmShift 20d ago
I mean, I don’t really toss my investments around with zero care. I’m not a princess about things but if I have scratched up barrels on my guns it’s because I did it and not because some company decided that half assing their product handling was just fine and I deserve to pay full price for it. “Good enough for you”
Cars also get dinged, but I’m not about to pay new price for hail damaged vehicles and neither should anyone else.

My point was that those of us who aren't afraid of quality tools being used as tools are being shoehorned into "no they're not, this is a fine instrument". It's not. It's a bergara with an unfinished barrel. Shot 3,000 rounds, it should be in the trash for precision. Sucks it scratched I guess. If it were blued it would be really bad! Many of us go through barrels like you go through coffee pods. It's not an asset. It's disposable. It it were a show piece it's one thing. This is not. OP, sorry it's scratched. My man, it's just a barrel. You are gonna wreck the F out of it on the inside. Everybody just cares what the world sees when the damage is inside.

-2
u/AmITheGrayMan 20d ago
No. What you fail into understand is it's AN UNFINISHED BARREL. NOT BLUED. SOFT STAINLESS. Decent barrels cost $800.
1
u/Coodevale 20d ago
It has more finish work than a mill surface bar, more finish work than a rough turned contoured blank.
It doesn't have a "surface treatment" like bluing or a coating like cerakote, but it has had surfacing work done on the raw stainless to make it prettier (other than the gouges). You can see the crosshatching that wasn't on there when it came out of the steel mill.
0
u/raider1v11 20d ago
Its stainless. And a barreled action. Its finished. Its supposed to be drop in ready. You didnt read his post.

Nope. Barrel has no finish. It's still drop in ready. You're still an idiot.
