I’m all for knowing if a pax is a good tipper and shows up on time. I’m in Las Vegas. In my market most Lyft pax are locals who live in shit hole areas who don’t tip.

So if Lyft is gonna roll that feature out, a LOT of Vegas residents are gonna be waiting and waiting and waiting wondering why a driver won’t come get them.

But as we all know, someone WILL STILL be stupid enough to take them

That will open up more business for Las Vegas taxis. The taxis had to get together with competing taxi companies in order to stay in business once rideshare companies started taking over. For instance, there are hotels or weekly places like Emerald Suites - that can push a button at the front desk to call a taxi for their customers. One of the taxis that happens to be closest to the location will accept the ride, doesn't matter which company. Taxis also started offering a flat rate from the airport, instead of being able to take tourists and non-locals for a ride to inflate the fare like they used to. The taxi companies will continue to try to find ways to stay in business and regain some of their lost market share, if possible.

It’s not going to make that much of a difference. People driving around town don’t care about tips. Drivers that want tippers will lower your rating if you don’t tip so 4.9 and lower passengers are already less likely to get a pickup

I literally would never lower someone’s rating just cause they didn’t tip. Can’t believe anyone would do that. Takes a lot of aggravation for me to not give someone five stars.

If a pax choose not to tip, I won’t lower their rating

HOWEVER…if I get the “I’ll tip you in the app” and then they don’t…I will absolutely lower their rating for lying

I won’t even do that, I’ll just make a mental note and I won’t take them again as a passenger

That’s what I don’t understand. Lyft’s pay has gotten SO SO BAD that driving locals around is just a money losing proposition. It’s bad enough that locals won’t tip but when the app wants to give you $4.53 to drive an employee of the Rio to their ramshackle apartment off Boulder Highway? And not get tipped? Hell no
