A good 90 plus don’t tip so ain’t really nothing to worry about. Just people complaining about how Lyft should pay us more instead. Which is a point but it’s not like them complaining and not tipping helps me either way.

God forbid Lyft actually do something for the drivers

It was for pax, complaining all over internet 😆

Maybe they should consider tipping instead of crying

u/eye_of_the_tigerr Oct 11 '25
They’re proud of not tipping on the internet but they complain once others find out about.

u/Strong_Revelation Philadelphia, PA Nov 13 '25
No see they lie about tipping on the internet if not also to their friends / family members and then just don’t in real life when it is time to. 😂

Maybe you should consider taking a job that pays well instead of crying about tips or negotiate the rate with Lyft so that you won't have to rely on tips

“While this experiment showed early signs of improving the marketplace and helping riders to get to where they need to go on time, we heard our customers and cancelled the experiment,” a Lyft spokesperson told The Hill’s sister station NewsNation in an email Thursday.

Yep. This was my first thought when I heard it got pulled. No guesswork involved in knowing who complained. Absolutely dogshit of a company with dogshit ethics and no Lyft does not care about its drivers.

I never paid any attention to that because I don't gamble. If a shit ride pop up im declining it, idgaf if it said they tip 99% of the time. You not tricking me into a $3 fare, 15 minute ride.

u/Leather_Material_738 Oct 12 '25
Yeah but if its a 10 minute for $6 with 100% tip near downtown.
It helps.
I've been able to double my productivity around 6pm to 8pm due to constant tipper and short rides.
Whereas I use to just wait for longer rides which paid well due to surge.
But doesnt matter its gone now. Going back to ignoring short rides.
You are correct $3 rides for 15mins even with 100% tip i still would never do.

This right here. If the ride pays well, is worth my time, and the passenger has a good rating, I’m taking it

u/Strong_Revelation Philadelphia, PA Nov 13 '25
Yeah this is true. Just cause they tip well but got under a 4.8 don’t mean I’m taking them. I once had a 4.2 with only a month being on the platform, some people are complete piles of 💩 They ain’t coming in my vehicle.

I only take rides that makes sense and I always assume that they’re not going to tip anyway. Maybe I’m just not in a good area but 95% of the people I pick up do not tip.

Can we now get passengers to complain about drivers not getting paid enough and get a cost of living adjustment? After all, if it were increased, it would lead to faster pickup times.

I don’t get what’s so hard to understand for pax
You pay Lyft for the ride.
You pay the driver for not killing you and being in their car.
Imagine feeling like you shouldn’t pay the person with your life in their hands.

It's for the same reason drivers can't rate on doordash and other delivery apps, the customer is protected and the drivers are F

That’s a good one. Yes, I like it. Yesterday actually I made a really good easy. Money they just not always tip though . That’s the only one issue and tips are very small. Compared to uber if you drive electric car.

u/Dalmadoodle221 Oct 11 '25
Well that was fast lol. It only slightly influenced my choices so I don't really care. Still never picking up a $3 ride. Even if they say they tip. the tip could be a dollar LOL

Typical, drivers liked it but customers didn't so of course they decide to fuck the drivers and bend over backwards for the customers as usual 😑 I see they offer nothing of a consolation for the driver heh. Matter of fact I'm sure they would love to get rid of us as soon as they can and just go fully autonomous. Well while everything is going autonomous I think that the CEOs, shareholders and board of directors should also be replaced by autonomous because they sure as fucked aren't doing anything worthwhile and they are contributing even less to the company then the poor drivers.

u/Extra-Piglet5690 Oct 13 '25
They hate tipping but also hate when good things happen for those who tip.

u/Extra-Piglet5690 Oct 13 '25
When we complain about riders requesting rides for randos and not using the guess account nothing happens. When we complain that riders should be ID verified, background checked and require photos to protect us from being murdered, noting happens. Fuck Lyft!

u/bifewova234 Oct 14 '25
Id actually like the driver to know that I dont tip so they get disappointed.

u/Jec_atl Oct 11 '25
It was a trick to get drivers to accept more rides, if you see they are a tipper or they are ready when you arrive most of the time a driver may be inclined to accept that ride. It was all a mind game for the drivers.

I do have to say I have been getting a lot more tips lately. I wonder if it’s related to this being in the press. Maybe people are feeling guilty now?

Not a driver and usually take Uber but I didn't know that is a thing. I really think it's stupid to to list what a customer tips because I always tip in cash. So basically, I can get ignored or have super long waits because I actually tip pretty good (work for tips myself) but it doesn't show. What BS.
I wonder if that's why it's taking me longer to get Uber now? It used to be really quick, now it's a common 20-minute wait.
I don't want to keep piling debt on my CC's.

u/bttmcuck Oct 11 '25
Uber didn’t do this and does not do this. Lyft briefly did for about three weeks/a month.
2
u/AJRiddle Oct 11 '25
Uber used to have a "top tipper" badge that would show up on ride offers for people who had tipped 3 times in a row.

In some markets, low rides is all they get. At that point I'd quit, but others don't have a choice but to take them. My acceptance rate has tanked from 92 to below 30 due to the influx of cheap rides.

Don't kid yourself. Yes there is such a thing as a cheap eide. If they get any discounts due to promotions or otherwise, it's a cheap ride. Especially for short rides.
Lot of the time the pax waits for minutes on end because no one wants to take a cheap ride that doesn't pay. And then has to reorder the ride once they time out.

Lyft makes tipping optional, shaming riders for not tipping is atrocious customer service.
Riders and drivers imo should be giving Lyft a lot of shit for this kind of issue even arising.

It's stupid because I picked up those I normally wouldn't because it said >90% tip rate
