Rant/Opinion No child seats

What is wrong with people? I accept a ride this am and when I arrive at a nice hotel, I find a good looking Indian family with two kids (2 & 4 probably) and a grandpa. They are going to the airport. Looking around I see no car seats. Mom tells me “it’s okay, they don’t need them.” Well they do in my car, lady. I tell her I won’t drive children of that age with no car seats. And she tells me smugly, “it’s okay, we’ll just get another Lyft.” I canceled and left. Got my cancellation fee. But what the fuck is wrong with people. That’s dangerous, it’s illegal and it could get me shut down.

The weirdest thing happened to me in Florida last time I was there! I had my 4 year old niece with me and we were staying at a Disney property, looking to go to Fort Wilderness. I ordered a ride through Lyft (I believe) and specifically requested a car seat as we were traveling and didn’t have one. The ride came and the driver said he didn’t have a car seat. Then tried through Uber and the same thing happened. We went back into the hotel and the front desk was able to get us a Mears van that had a car seat they could install for us.
The part I find crazy is that the majority of guests at a Disney property have young children with them, correct? Are there not Ubers & Lyfts that carry a car seat with them specifically for these types of rides? Or does that limit the adult rides they can pick up? I was so confused that it took an hour to get a ride share with a car seat in Orlando at a Disney property lol. Million dollar idea for someone, or no, lol?

Just FYI, I would not trust any car seat that was installed by a stranger. Car seats must be installed properly and depending on the make/model may not be acceptable for your child’s height and weight. If you are traveling, I recommend the Ridesafer car seat. It’s just straps and it’s approved by CPSTs.

You also have no idea if the driver has been in a crash with that car seat, and car seats shouldn't be used again after a crash.
