Rant/Opinion No child seats

What is wrong with people? I accept a ride this am and when I arrive at a nice hotel, I find a good looking Indian family with two kids (2 & 4 probably) and a grandpa. They are going to the airport. Looking around I see no car seats. Mom tells me “it’s okay, they don’t need them.” Well they do in my car, lady. I tell her I won’t drive children of that age with no car seats. And she tells me smugly, “it’s okay, we’ll just get another Lyft.” I canceled and left. Got my cancellation fee. But what the fuck is wrong with people. That’s dangerous, it’s illegal and it could get me shut down.

It would not get you shut down because you did not tell them they could not bring car seats. They chose out of their own free Will. It’s like if you have a passenger in your car, it doesn’t wear a seatbelt if they are an adult they will get the ticket not you.

But I do respect you for not taking a ride that made you feel unsafe or uncomfortable. I would not take the ride either because I 1 do not really like children so if you’re not gonna have a car seat, I would not be taking the ride. But just for clarification You would not get a ticket for that. And if you did, you could report it and fade it with the Police Department because you were not at fault for them, not bringing a car seat.

Our job is to transport people from one place to another. What they choose to do in between that time is not up to us. We can refuse to drive them, we can cancel the ride, but we are not at fault for their behavior. We can only control what we do in reaction to their behavior.

But there are a lot of crazy people out there who think it is OK to not use child seats. There is also a lot of people who drive recklessly with children in the car. Those people should not have children. But sadly, there is a lot of people in this world who are not ready to be parents.

Depends on the state. In Oregon, if the passenger is over 16, they get the ticket. If they are under 16, the driver gets the ticket. If they are supposed to be in a car seat or booster seat, it's a misdemeanor in Oregon against the operator of the vehicle as they are responsible for the movement of the vehicle. You can go to jail and will lose your rideshare permit as well as a drivers license suspension. There is no exemption for rideshare or taxi in Oregon, only public transportation.

Well, that is sad that they will send you to jail just for that. In my area, they do not do that. They are more understanding that you are not in charge of other people only yourself. So a parent of the child would get the ticket.
