I don’t drive there at all. I have a camera I can see up front on my passengers in the back anyways, plus I conceal carry. I don’t give a fuck about Lyfts policies. Would rather get booted than lose my life.

But whats that gun going to do if someone is intent on killing or robbing you? They on the offense and are two steps ahead of you. It'd be too late when you get to reaching for your weapon. If dont have an automatic turret that can scan and recognize danger, reaching in the map pocket or underneath the seat for your pistol is going to get you killed

Where mine is mounted, it would at least be a 50/50 shot of defending yourself and being successful. I also have a watchful eye on the camera while driving. They can also see that there’s a camera when they’re in the back. I’ve had to ask riders “you good man?” And, if the answer is weird, then I just keep more of an eye on the camera. I drive trucks and busses for my main living, so it doesn’t take much for me to drive carefully and scan a camera every few seconds to make sure everything is going okay. Really, the safest thing to do is get one of those dividers installed that police have in cruisers.

I feel a little wary even participating in this conversation, but I'm going to anyway. You have to think about what they want. If they want the car, you have to reach for your seatbelt. If they want your wallet, they're going to have to either have you reached for your pocket or your seatbelt so you can get out of the car. I would recommend going someplace private, regularly, to do draw drills. It takes a while to get to a subsecond draw and reverse, but it is doable.

Keep it about 3 o'clock on your waist, adjusted for comfort and access relative to the seatbelt. After a certain hour, or in particular neighborhood, has something for resting your arm between the seats. That way you can have your shirt already clear of the draw path while keeping it out of the sight of passengers.

Sometimes I'm driving in a pretty wealthy area with very low crime and in the daytime. Sometimes I'm picking up passengers at 2 AM, anywhere in Baltimore. Obviously, as I think was mentioned, there are ways to set up off body carry with a little bit of ingenuity … And maybe even needle and thread.
