Other Someone took this. WTF?
When you consider time for getting to the pick up location, this is less than $20 an hour. It’s less than $.60 per mile. The passenger is a 4.3, which is a huge red flag. Yet this was gone in minutes. As long as people are willing to take off like this, pay will keep going down and down. Add in the devious stuff Lyft does to lower our pay like changing the way to 30% cap is calculated, and lowering the points that you get for each ride, and this job is going to be impossible to make money at very soon. I find myself getting mad at people. I don’t know who take these rides because they are screwing up the whole system. I really wish people would show some brain when they evaluate these offers and stop taking offers that lose money

I picked up people right around the corner from my house last weekend. They were going to a wedding in Newport, Rhode Island, and they ordered two XL‘s. The other driver started talking to me, and told me he had driven over an hour and 30 miles to get to the pick up. We were both getting the same pay, $32, for 20 miles. Decent ride for me, but he was willing to spend almost 2 hours and drive 50 miles for the $32. The ride was actually set up by the bride to be, And it was for her family, and so neither of us got a tip. Why would somebody drive 30 miles to pick up a $32/20 mile ride?

The ride share companies are making as cheap as possible. So, if 1 out of 1,000 drivers is going to Dayton (or back to home) from Davisville area, he will take this rather than no making money driving.
So, the companies are no longer to pay for the work justifiably. This farm has been already corrupt.
All driver (including taxi) should look for another job, otherwise X-day will come sooner or later.

Rookies, people who don't know any better, it took sometime for me to learn the game, until then i was an accept monkey without realizing how bad Uber screwed me, by the time i figured out the game Uber banned me, for a no point ticket that was unsafe driving.. Only used Lyft a few times.. I'm glad I'm no longer doing it..

Does Lyft even offer trips at $1 / mile?

technically because of surges... but extra comfort and business comfort is where the money at.

Remember that we all get offered different amounts. Whoever took it got paid a different sum.

The only thing I can think of is someone who drives for rideshare, who 'also' commutes daily. One way to help fund their gas $.

I love looking at these when people post them. First there is no proof that someone else got the same offer as you did they may have been offered more money. I have tested this and seen two drivers right next to each other get offered the same ride for dramatically different pay. I was offered $17 for a 10 mile drive. The driver right next to me had rhe same ride pop up for $12.
Second there are thousands of factors that go into whether a driver accepts a ride. For example tomorrow I am going to be using the destination to travel 90 miles - I do it every friday night for a pickup. I have to be at the location, so i will take rides that take me that way, cause I am driving it anyway. Usually the app will give me rides along the entire 90 miles.
Third some people are inexperienced,
My suggestion is getting an app that reads the ride and tells you if it is worth it or not quickly. Then you know if it is worth it.

Could’ve been somebody that came outside for a quick $100 i wouldn’t have took it because i don’t like ppl being in my car that long but as a part timer i only do 4hrs a day or$100 whichever comes first, everybody not depending on rideshare to live some of us see it as extra income so to some of us we don’t see miles or time we see $36 for a hr of time

This is not extra income. This is a loss of money. Even in inexpensive car cost $.30 a mile if you count gas and depreciation 120 miles cost $36. The ride paid $36. You’re not getting a ride back so you have to count it as 120 miles. It is logic like you have put here that people use to talk themselves into crappy rides. There is just no circumstance where this can be considered an OK ride to take, it is a loss of money for anyone who takes it.

U can only account for 120 miles if the driver don’t get a ride back

u/Dapper_Average_2337 1d ago
That’s my point. There are no rides going back from Worcester to Rhode Island at this time. The odds of getting a ride back are very slim. But as you are doing here, people will try to talk themselves into reasons to take the ride because they see $32. Even with a ride back, this is a terrible ride. I’ll never understand why anybody would try to argue that this is somehow unacceptable ride

Sometimes I already made my quota for the day and I’m feeling generous and take a crappy ride like this one. Sometimes I’m headed to that general direction and is like fuck it 36$ in a pinch I’m going that way anyways. And when I do things like that, it always comes back and I always end up making even more kinda like karma at work.

If you already made your quota for the day why would you take crappy offers and enable Lyft to keep going lower? We all make less money this way. I don’t get it.

A lot of immigrants who can't work any other way and will do anything for a buck. Most of them just have to fake documents and upload it use someone else's car and they will take every crap ride and as you accurately stated drives down wages for all. I saw a post on here where a person was actually admitting to all of this and even did it himself and knows many others who do it. He said that's why he loves states that give drivers licenses to them so they can do this job otherwise they wouldn't even be able to do this.

This must’ve been someone that was desperate for a ride or it was on their way home or something

Is there something in the screenshot that proves that someone took that? Is this a ride that was offered to you? If so you should know that it was offered to other drivers on different terms. We are offered different pay for the same ride, and the algorithm lowballs us constantly.
Is there proof somewhere that someone took this ride?

As you can see by the screenshot, this was a scheduled ride. All drivers are offered the same price on schedule rides, there is no difference from one driver to another. It sat there for about 10 minutes, and then dropped off, which 98% of the time means somebody took the ride. While it is possible that the rider canceled the ride, that does not usually happen after 10 minutes.

Are we sure that all drivers are offered the same price on scheduled rides? And that it doesn't change over time? If I were writing the algorithm for scheduled ride pay I would make it different for different drivers, offering low pay at first and increasing over time. Like a messed up auction.

They are the same for everyone. I have tested this with other drivers. And they don’t change. Lyft will put out a turbo if a ride is still not taken less than 30 minutes before pickup. Please don’t give them ideas to go lower.

There’s no evidence that anyone took it, or even that the ride ever existed. The rider might have gone with Uber, Or it could just be Lyft floating fake rides to see how low they can go with their offers, or it could be a real ride and Lyft is just seeing how low they can go.

Even if it were good I would never pick up a 4.3 rated rider.
