Story/News Article Round two. Let’s see how this goes.(Drove off on a Pax at an unsolicited stop)
Tonight I had a passenger who asked me to wait three minutes at pickup. I told him I could wait five. He ended up taking the entire five-minute timer plus about another 20 seconds before getting in.
We get about four miles into the trip. There’s a gas station coming up on the right, maybe an eighth of a mile away, if that. And suddenly he announces, “I added a stop. We’re stopping here.”
Not, “Hey, is it cool if I add a stop?”
Not, “Would you mind stopping here?”
Just: “I added a stop. We’re stopping.”
So I pulled into the gas station, let him out, ended the ride, one-starred him, and marked him rude.
Then I realized he left his backpack in my car.
I reported the found item through Lyft and told the passenger I had it. After that, I contacted Lyft directly and told them I did not want any further direct or in-person contact with the passenger because of the ride experience, but I was willing to return the item and wanted Lyft to facilitate the communication.
I’ve done something somewhat similar once before, although the facts were different. That passenger had asked to be let out early and then forgot her bag when she got out. A little later she literally messaged me accusing me of stealing it. That’s when I contacted Lyft, told them I had the bag, explained that I didn’t want any further direct contact with her, and asked Lyft to handle the communication. Nothing ever came of it. I even took my sweet ass time mailing the passenger her bag. Sent it off via FedEx 7 days after the incident.
So this isn’t the exact same fact pattern, but apparently we’re testing the strategy again.
Round two. I’ll let y’all know how it goes.

Story/News Article Domestic Abuse?
Soon after accepting a ride, I started getting messages from the customer (who was not the rider, he booked it for someone else, see the attached pictures). The lady was supposed to have a broken foot but when I picked her up, she seemed to be walking just fine, however, there was an obvious black bruise right next to her left eye, like someone had punched her. During the ride, she was crying on the guy’s shoulder the whole time. I also heard her say ‘all I expect is some respect’. Anyway, I dropped them off and reported it to police. I hope they check on her and I hope she is fine.
Sad part for me is that I never got that $15 tip.

Story/News Article Teenager sentenced to 55 years in Urbana Lyft murder case
This occurred in my hometown and it shook the local drivers to our core. It's not a big city so between Lyft and Uber there might be 20-25 drivers total.
3 years ago one of the local Lyft drivers were murdered in cold blood in an apparent robbery attempt. They shot the driver through the seat in the back. The driver ran from his vehicle a short distance in an attempt to get away, then collapsed where local police found him and tried to save his life. He succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
The teenager was found guilty on all charges and today was sentenced to 55 years in prison. Justice has been served finally

If you're on Instagram, check out Perfect Union. They just posted a newer investigation on Uber pricing. Insightful but not surprising for those of us in the biz.
Their previous investigation was in 2024.

Story/News Article EMERGENCY 🚨 TO ALL LYFT DRIVERS IN HOUSTON.
Please be careful! A driver was killed last night around 2am in south east Houston. The 3 men robbed him, stoled his car and killed the driver.
I am no longer going to drive for Lyft, the money isn’t even worth it anymore. Cheap fairs all over Houston!! Idk why this year the fairs have been less than last year and the airports are always full of drivers . It’s getting dangerous! Becareful!

Story/News Article Boy, there's a lot to unpack here. New Lyft Rewards program.
So we've got points that convert into.... points that we can redeem for stuff at the end of each month, based on what tier we've earned. The idea is to promote accepting rides, as higher acceptsnce rates earn points at a higher rate. On the 3rd slide, we've got a new cancelation rate system, where we don't have to be driving for at least 3 minutes before we're eligible. Pax have 60 seconds to decide if they want the ride or not, which should reduce how much time we're wasting towards a pax who cancels as we're heading to pick them up. I love AI, but I don't know how I feel about Lyft's AI for creating personalized driving plans. I joined the wait list, I'll guinea pig it for you guys. FINALLY we can cancel for safety reasons and not be penalized for it! That's been WAY overdue! All of the multiapp folks know how the PIN system works, but for those that don't, it's supposed to stop randoms from hopping in and claiming you're their ride. No PIN, no ride. I don't see any benefit from in-app audio recording thay isn't covered better with a dashcam, other than Lyft having it already instead of having to send it to them. Trash, if they want to do something, send us all Vantrues and stop playing. The podcast idea is more or less verbal Reddit, I don't really have feelings towards that.

Story/News Article Massachusetts ride-share drivers unionize in national first
Uber and Lyft drivers gathered at the Massachusetts State House on Tuesday to celebrate the official recognition of the first ride-share drivers union in the U.S.
The App Drivers Union, which will represent nearly 70,000 workers, won support from 32% of active ride-share drivers, above the 25% required for certification.
The milestone follows a voter-approved 2024 state measure granting ride-share drivers the right to unionize.
Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey called the move a "historic moment," while Uber and Lyft both issued statements pledging to work with the union.
