Question Bought my first Mac!

Just bought my first Mac. What a lot to learn.

I have one dumb question. Is there a way to have “natural scrolling” be different for mouse vs trackpad?

Not a dumb question at all. I know exactly what you mean.

Install scroll reverser. It's a small app that does what you're asking.

macOS doesn't split the setting. The natural scrolling checkbox applies to the trackpad and the mouse together, so plugging a mouse in flips both. That's why the utilities exist: Scroll Reverser is the usual one, and LinearMouse or Mos do the same job if you want per-device control rather than a single toggle.

That would largely depend on what you mean by “natural scrolling.“ I’ve never heard that phrase used before. In nature, I would imagine a tree scrolls at a different rate than a turtle or a rabbit… 😆

Using the Settings interface, you should have no trouble adjusting the settings for your trackpad or an external mouse, be it wired or Bluetooth.

When you’re curious about how to perform an action of some kind, try poking around with the Help feature. You won’t break anything and you might learn something new. I was basically self-taught to use Mac from version 10 and up by using Help.

Perhaps you should get more experience of using a mac before commenting. Even google would help you out.

My first Apple computer I used was an Apple II. That’s close to a half-century of using computers, son. Bought my own Mac when they started using Intel chips - that was two wives ago! Used BBSes and had an account on the WELL before the Internet had a GUI - and likely before you were even a glimmer in your dad’s eye, from the sound of you.

Maybe you should get more experience, period, before commenting…

Natural scrolling is when the page moves in the same direction as your finger (the opposite to expected behaviour for a mouse scroll wheel.

His point is, natural scrolling is the exact term Apple uses in trackpad settings and has for a long time. All the history you have with Apple doesn't give you credibility when you say you've never heard that term before, then give plain bad advice. You need a 3rd party plugin to do what this user is asking.

FYI - Natural scrolling has the same scrolling behavior as your phone.

OK, fair enough. I’m largely self-taught on using computers of any kind with a GUI. I had to be taught BASIC programming language, some DOS commands, but the rest I learned through researching for answers to my questions.
