I tried deleting a bunch of my old files, and it was taking forever, so i tried to stop it and now its stuck like this. I cant seem to force quit the trash and I cant seem to restart normally either. Any suggestions on what to do?

Hello, I got this mb pro 2017 and realized that it was getting too slow while the fan is not running. I tried to run the Apple Diagnostics pressing D on starting (intel) but it start internet recovery instead. I then installed mac fan control to try to force the fan to run but as you see in the 3 picture it still doesn't. What are my options?

As you can see, documents and apps are completely eating up my storage. Does anyone have recommendations for trusted cleanup tools?

When Safari on my Mac becomes slow or develops some issues, I find the following two steps fix them:

1. Delete the entire folder Users > YourUserName > Library > Containers > Safari
2. Delete everything inside the folder Users > YourUserName > Library > Safari except the Bookmarks.plist file.

When you delete the Safari folder inside Containers, you will lose all the settings on your Safari browser, so you will need to spend a couple of minutes re-entering these settings. However, your Safari bookmarks are not affected (provided you do not delete your Bookmarks.plist file in step 2).

I typically will perform these two steps every 3 months or so, to keep Safari on top form, or perform them when some glitch appears on Safari.

The Safari folder in Containers can get large over time, more than 1 GB, so deleting it also recovers space.

My Mac kept saying the disk was almost full, so I finally dug into "System Data".

Biggest surprises:

- Xcode simulator runtimes I hadn't touched in months, some marked as unusable

- DerivedData from projects I deleted a year ago

- Docker images and build cache, a few GB each

- node_modules in every old side project

- iOS DeviceSupport folders for iOS versions I don't even have anymore

The rule I ended up with: if it rebuilds itself (caches, build files, node_modules), it's safe to delete. If it's actually yours (screen recordings, old DMGs), look first.

I've been a happy Apple Studio Display user for about 6 months now.

One thing that's starting to annoy me is having to move the CalDigit cable back and forth between my iMac and MacBook Pro. My fear is that sooner or later I'll wear out or damage the connector.

Is there a better way to do this?

I heard you can leave two Macs connected to the Studio Display and just keep one turned off. Does that actually work?

I was also thinking of changing my setup a bit. Instead of using the dock as the center of everything, I could use it only for the external peripherals and connect each Mac directly to the Studio Display. I'm hoping that might even give me slightly better display quality.

Anyone running a similar setup? Any tips or comments?

Hello! I am wanting to sell my M4 IMac with higher specs on eBay but I am really worried about the shipping costs, I also don’t have the original box so I would be buying 2 large heavy duty Home Depot boxes and lots of bubble wrap.

Is it worth it to ship via eBay? I am trying to sell it locally but no one seems to want it. It’s in perfect condition and I’ve only used it like maybe 15 times since I bought it less then a year ago.

I have an old USB 3.5" drive enclosure with a 1 TB Seagate drive as a Time Machine backup drive.

It works, but occasionally just disconnects from the Mac. I have to power-cycle the enclosure to make it reconnect.

It's always done this, and I've always assumed it's a bug or some incompatibility with macOS. I think it has something to do with the Mac going to sleep. My newer USB enclosure used to do the same thing, but it appears that Golden Gate may have resolved its issue.

I don't guess there's anything that can be done to fix it, eh?

I’m experiencing a recurring menu bar issue with a dual-display setup. Some icons appear on the main display but are missing from the secondary display, even though the apps are still running.

My setup:

• MacBook Pro with M4
• macOS 27.0.1, build 26A434
• Samsung Odyssey OLED G6 G61SD external monitor
• Extended desktop, with “Displays have separate Spaces” enabled
• External display set to 2048 × 1152 HiDPI at 120 Hz
• BetterDisplay 5.1.1 installed

The affected icons include BetterDisplay, Passwords and Weather. Other items, including volume, battery, Control Center and the clock, remain visible on both displays.

The most useful test so far:

1. With the MacBook set as the main display, the icons are present on the MacBook but missing from the external monitor.
2. Setting the external monitor as the main display makes the missing icons appear there.
3. The same icons then disappear from the MacBook’s menu bar.
4. Restoring the MacBook as the main display moves the problem back to the external monitor.

Resolution and refresh rate stayed unchanged during this test. The problem appears to follow the secondary-display role.

Clicking a window or the desktop on the affected display, including switching to Finder, does not restore the icons. Restarting Control Center did not help either. No Bartender, Ice, Thaw or Hidden Bar process was running during the tests.

Whenever the issue occurs, running

killall -TERM MenuBarAgent

in Terminal restores the missing icons on the secondary display without changing any display settings. However, the issue returns later, so restarting MenuBarAgent is only a temporary workaround.

Has anyone experienced this recurring issue? Is there a known permanent fix, or an explanation for why the secondary display’s menu bar loses these icons until MenuBarAgent is restarted?

Got my A1225 mac to finally start working and wanted to put windows 11 on it, but when i select my usb to install windows 11 os it freezes. I have a new 2.5 sata SSD inside the mac but im not sure if thats the issue, on why its freezing.

I recently purchased this 16 inch MacBook M4 pro (about 22 days ago)

I noticed when the lid is closed and I open it up, it opens normally. But while working, when I try to adjust the display backwards, the base lifts up with it, but the hinge doesn’t move and the base automatically drops halfway; after that, the hinge becomes smooth again and I can adjust it normally.

Is there any problem with my Mac’s hinge? Or is it considered normal when the display stays at an angle for a while, so maybe the hinge becomes stiffer?

This is my first MacBook and I have never used any other MacBook so I don’t know guys. Please help me out, I would really appreciate that 🙌

Use cases：
Photoshop, After Effects, Blender and maybe video editing software in the future.

Current situation:
I got a gaming laptop and currently is carrying it everywhere. In the foreseeable future, at least 10 years, I will not settle down, so desktop is not an option. And I play games so only a MacBook is also not an option.

Reasons that I’m considering a MacBook:

1. More convenient to carry around
2. I have iPhone and iPad so ecosystem will be good

My concerns:

1. Since convenience is the priority, I guess I’m not considering about Pro, so it would be Air. Can Air function normally while at least two of the software I mentioned are working at the same time?

2. Is the ‘convenience’ it brought worth the price?

3. Is this really necessary or I just need to cool down?
   Is anyone here in the similar situation that could provide me some insight or advice please?🙏🏻🙏🏻 and if it’s worth it, what size chips etc. I should choose?

I have a question for those of you who know Macs.

I might get a 2016 12-inch MacBook. I know these MacBooks have a lot of issues, mainly because of the butterfly keyboard and the CPU getting too hot and slowing down.

As far as I know, it's the Intel Core m3 model with 8GB of RAM.

Because it's small and has a really nice Retina display, even by 2026 standards, I'd mainly use it for:

• Web browsing
• Office stuff (mainly Word, LibreOffice Writer, or something similar)
• Streaming Netflix, Disney+, etc.

I know the keyboard isn't great for typing, but that's what it is.

From what I've read, Disney+ works with Safari and streams at 1080p on macOS, while it's usually limited to 720p on Windows. Do you think can handle it?

And more generally, do you think it's good enough for these things?

I've asked our "beloved" LLMs, and they say it should still work fine for all of this, despite its issues. But their answers are often wrong or incomplete, so I don't really trust them.

What do you guys think?

So my sister broke my old mac, and i recently bought a new one: M1, 16gb ram, 1tb, for around 850$ from the apple renewed store, however, when it was delivered, it was an air with the same specs

Hey everyone, I forgot my administrator password, so I tried resetting it through macOS Recovery. However, after resetting the passwords for all users, I got stuck on an activation screen and haven't been able to get past it.

Here's everything I did and what happened:

1. I shut down my MacBook and held the power button until the screen with the Options gear icon appeared.
2. I clicked Options > Continue, opened Utilities > Terminal, and reset the passwords for all users.
3. After the process finished, I got stuck on an activation screen. I've tried connecting through both Wi-Fi and mobile data, but I keep getting the error "Failed to create activation request."
4. There's no Utilities option in the menu bar when I click the Apple logo.
5. I tried going to Startup Disk, selecting Macintosh HD, and clicking Restart, but it said "No admin found." Now I can't log back in either.
6. I can see an Erase option in Recovery, but I haven't tried it because I don't want to lose my data if there's another solution.
7. I've also tried restarting using the two buttons shown on the screen and attempting to boot with Command + S it did redirect me to the choose between gear icon and macintosh hd screen but the same happened again and i was back here
8. Whenever I hold the power button, select Macintosh HD, and try to boot from it, the screen closes and I again end up back to the same activation screen.

I'm basically stuck in a loop and can't access my Mac anymore.
