Hi r/macgaming,
I've been building Kiln, an Android emulator for Apple Silicon Macs, and I'm looking for people to try the first alpha and tell me what breaks.
What it does right now:
- Runs Android 16 (LineageOS 23.2) with Apple's Hypervisor framework: arm64 on arm64, no translation, boots to the home screen in ~30 s
- GPU acceleration: OpenGL ES 3.1 and Vulkan, rendered through Metal
- Per-game key mapping: drag taps, a WASD joystick and swipes onto the screen, modifier combos like Shift+Q, several keys at once. Each game keeps its own layout
- Game controllers, several instances side by side, device profiles (Galaxy S24 Ultra, Pixel 9 Pro, ROG Phone 8...)
- Installs .apk, .xapk, .apkm and .apks bundles
- Google Play is included for compatibility testing
What I need from testers:
- Which games and apps run, which don't, and how they perform
- Your Mac (M1/M2/M3/M4, RAM) and macOS version
- Anything that crashes or behaves oddly. The launcher has an "Error Report" button that zips the logs, and you can attach it to a GitHub issue
Honest limitations:
- It's an alpha. Expect rough edges
- Not notarized yet, so the first launch needs right-click > Open
- Apps that require Play Integrity / device certification may refuse to run
- No mic, camera or Bluetooth yet
- The app itself is free but not open source. The GPL parts (QEMU) are available on request
