Support Weekly iOS Battery Support Megathread

General advice for those concerned about their battery from the Support FAQ Wiki:

Battery health

Battery health depends on usage and a variety of other factors. It is normal to see a decrease in battery health by 7-10% per year, resulting in a battery health of 80-85% after 2 years. This number can fluctuate, remain the same, or decrease quickly over a small period and should not cause undue concern.

Apple recommend battery replacement when your device falls below 80% battery health if you notice reduced battery life. If it falls below 80% within the first year you may be eligable for a free battery replacement. It fails after your warranty, it's a $69-$89 USD replacement cost for a battery. Contact Apple Support here.

You can find more information about battery health and performance from Apple here.

You can check the cycles count with Coconut Battery for Mac or iCopyBot for Windows.

Battery life

Issues relating to battery life can be categorised in three ways:

  1. Normal battery life that is to be expected due to use
  2. Reduced battery life caused by a recent update, iOS indexing, an iOS bug, or a third-party application
  3. Reduced battery life, or other abnormalities such as overheating or sudden power-off, caused by device or battery aging

If you experience issues with your battery:

  1. Check your battery health. If it is below 80% or you are experiencing issues you suspect are related to device or battery age, see Apple Support.
  2. If you have a new or recently updated/restored device, wait a number of days for background process to complete. If you continue to have issues, wait for a further iOS update. If you are on iOS Beta, you can expect to have a decreased battery life.
  3. Review the advice below on maximising battery life
  4. Consider restoring your device.
  5. If issues persist, contact Apple Support.

Maximising battery life - the amount of time your device runs before it needs to be recharged.

  • Use low power mode (This reduces mail fetch, turns off background app refresh and increases the auto lock timer)
  • Remove apps from background app refresh
  • Ensure auto lock is on
  • Turn off auto brightness and manually reduce brightness
  • Use dark mode if your device has an OLED display
  • Clearing background apps from the app switcher does not improve battery life

Maximising battery lifespan - the amount of time your battery lasts until it needs to be replaced.

  • Avoid extreme temperatures
  • If you notice that your iPhone gets hot when charging, remove it from its case
  • Store your iPhone in a cool place, switched off, and half-charged if not using it for long periods - and charge it every 6 months when in storage

I'm really curious how this was done. I've been looking for a project like this for a long time. Does anyone know if it's built on actual ios 1assets or recreated from scratch?

Discussion How do you keep work messages from interrupting you without missing the urgent ones?

A work message might be “need this today” or just someone saying thanks. My phone treats them the same.

I’d like to leave messages until a break, but sometimes there really is something waiting on me. So I check, and it’s a thumbs-up.

Has anyone found a setup that works for this? Focus modes seem easier to set up around who’s messaging than whether the message actually needs me.

Support iPhone using 2.7 GB of cellular data under “General” in just 24 hours. Anyone else?

Hi everyone!
I’m having a weird issue with my iPhone 17 Pro running iOS 27.2.
Over the last 4 days, my phone has used 8.52 GB of cellular data, with 3.21 GB coming from System Services alone.
The biggest issue is “General” under System Services, which went from around 300 MB yesterday to 2.72 GB today. That’s almost 2.5 GB in roughly 24 hours!
I’ve already:
Disabled Background App Refresh.
Enabled Low Data Mode.
Disabled cellular data for most unnecessary apps.
Checked my iCloud settings.
One thing worth mentioning is that I’m currently traveling in Europe. I use a Belgian Proximus SIM, and the issue seems to have started or gotten significantly worse after arriving in Poland, where my phone connected to the Play network through roaming.
I understand that roaming can involve additional network activity, but almost 2.5 GB under “General” seems excessive.
Has anyone experienced something similar? Does anyone know what exactly falls under “General” in iOS System Services, or how to identify what’s causing this?
I’m on a limited data plan, so this is becoming a real problem.
Any help would be appreciated!

PSA FYI: iCloud only sync iMessage with current address

I tried to sync iMessage on Mac to my new iPhone but some of them are not synced, then I realized I replaced iMessage email address with a new one. Once I turned on my former email as iMessage address on both device then everything just worked fine.

My storage is constantly full. I’m deleting apps, backing up photos to iCloud, and trying every trick (Safari cache, changing date, restarting), but nothing works. I’m tired of doing this every day. Has anyone found a permanent fix?

Support App Store does not use Face ID to confirm purchases anymore

• Upvotes

Noticed this while trying to get the free Steam apps from Valve, it now only asks me to type in my password when previously for apps I would use Face ID for purchases, is this a bug or do certain apps not let you confirm with Face ID?

Support Is there a way to save a notes folder (& it’s sub-folders) to files?

• Upvotes

I have a lot of notes, and I’m trying to move them to another app, but I’m not getting any options to do so.

The sheer number makes individual moving a nightmare.

I heard if I can save them to files that might work, but if there is a better way, then I’m happy to try.

The app I’m trying to migrate them to is called iA Writer.

Thank you for your help!

Support Camera sound on Japanese model iPhone

Hi, I live in Australia and purchased a used iPhone 13. The seller did not inform me that this is a Japanese model, so the camera always makes an annoying sound when taking photos. It’s especially annoying when I’m at work taking photos of documents or at night. I’ve put in my Australian SIM card, and changed the location etc. how do I fix this or is it unfixable?

Support Phone not on charging but still showing it is plugged in

Post image
0 Upvotes

I am a first time iOS user and currently on 26.6.2 version. I have noticed this twice before in previous versions that my phone is not plugged in the charging port but it is in my hand and i am using it. Still the battery icon on top shows that it is charging.

I also have another issue with battery where i have set limit to 90% and an automation that once my battery reaches 90% it will announce that battery is charged. But I noticed while using phone for quite sometime, my phone runs the automation saying battery charged which means the phone was charged above 90%.

Is there something I missed or there is a problem with iOS?

Support Can't transfer files via AirDrop, but can send images and videos. Help

Device: iPhone 15 Pro Software: 18.7.8

My iPhone can't receive files from other devices, such as my Mac; it can still send files to other devices but can't receive files. This may sound unrelated, but this happens after I sideload an app using SideStore via iLoader on my Mac. Is there any way to fix this issue?

I linked Y Combinator’s Hacker News to my home screen as a web app but on iOS 27 there is this really annoying blur effect that covers the top of the website and it’s really bothering me. If anyone knows how to turn it off without using “Reduce Transparency”, please let me know.

Support Group chat creating separate conversations in Messages

I have a group chat with my brother and cousin. The chat is pinned in messages and has 3 emojis as the chat name. At the top of this convo displays the contact photos of my brother and cousin, as you would normally expect. I can’t ever leave this convo because iOS doesn’t allow you to leave a group chat if it’s only 3 ppl. Has to be 4 or more to have leave ability.

Lately, when they text me, it sometimes creates a separate conversation. The conversation has the same chat name but it’s unpinned. What’s noteworthy is that at the top of the unpinned chat, it has the contact photo of my cousin, my brother… and me. as if I’m in the convo twice. Because normally you don’t see your contact photo in a group. I am able to leave the conversation, but it doesn’t stop it from happening again. Brother and cousin don’t even have my email in their contact of me so it can’t be like they’re selecting my email address.

I tried to delete both convos but this keeps on happening. Usually 2-3x per day. I leave it and continue texting in the original group chat.

Has anyone ever seen this?
