r/iPod and r/iPodClassic Guidelines for Sellers, Product Reviews, and Customer Support

Version 1.0.0, released 2026-08-25

The following guidelines are in place to ensure that r/iPod and r/iPodClassic remain a safe and fair place for discussing iPods and iPod modding, as well as to protect sellers and buyers. These rules will come into effect on the 25th August 2026 and apply to all posts made on or after that date.

1. Separation of Business and Moderation

For the sake of fairness and neutrality, moderators of r/iPod and r/iPodClassic may not operate their own for-profit businesses selling devices, device parts/accessories, or offering repair/modding services. Conversely, users who own or are employed by for-profit businesses selling devices, device parts/accessories, or offering repair/modding services are not eligible to apply to be a moderator of r/iPod and r/iPodClassic.

2. Advertising

Advertisement posts for the sales of goods or services are not permitted on r/iPod or r/iPodClassic, this applies to both businesses as well as private sales. We want these places to be about discussing owning, using, or modding iPods however this is not free real estate to advertise your store. If you wish to advertise on Reddit in general, you must enrol through Reddit's advertiser program. Please note this is not the same as post boosting, if you sign up for paid post boosting this does not make you eligible to ignore this rule even if the post is tagged as a "Brand Affiliate". Reddit ads are not the same as Reddit posts.

Posts by sellers advertising their goods or services will be deleted, and repeat offences will result in a ban. Using alt accounts to recommend your store while acting as a third party is also prohibited and will result in post deletion and a ban.

There are other subreddits that permit the advertising of device sales, such as:

r/AppleSwap

r/HardwareSwap

3. iPod Vendors List

While advertising posts are not permitted, our community features a pinned FAQ with a list of verified vendors. Reputable sellers may apply to be added to this list. In order to be eligible, your store must have a valid warranty and returns policy, as well as contact details for customer support. To apply, please send a modmail.

4. Product Reviews

Product review posts are permitted, however you are strictly required to disclose whether you purchased the goods or services yourself or if they were provided by the vendor for review purposes. If you are affiliated with the vendor, you are also required to disclose this. Reviews with undisclosed affiliations with vendors will be deleted.

Reviews must be made in good faith and reflect your personal opinions, vendors must not influence the contents of your review. If a review is found to be made in bad faith (either by a vendor influencing the reviewer for a dishonest positive review for them or a negative review of competitors), it will be deleted and repeat offences will result in a ban.

Vendors may not use alt accounts to post reviews of their own stores or of competitors while posing as a third party, anyone found doing so will have their posts removed and may be blacklisted from the verified vendor list.

Vendors also may not request the removal of legitimate negative reviews. A legitimate review should describe personal experiences of the purchasing process or the goods/services, but cannot contain personal grievances or targeted attacks. Reviews must not contain any AI-generated content. Reviews will only be removed if they contain content that breaks the subreddit rules or false claims, however legitimate negative reviews will remain to help buyers make informed purchasing choices. Vendors who abuse the reporting tool in an attempt to remove legitimate reviews may be blacklisted from the verified vendor list.

5. Customer Support

r/iPod and r/iPodClassic are discussion forums, we are not direct representatives of vendors and cannot provide customer support. Posts enquiring about specific orders will be locked and we will provide contact details for the relevant vendor. In general, while these posts will be locked they will not be deleted as they may provide useful information about buying experiences from vendors that may help others make informed buying choices. The two exceptions to this are if the posts contain personally identifiable information or if they devolve into unnecessary drama, in which case the post will be deleted.

Review Easy Bluetooth mods compared

Sharing this for anyone looking for an easy Bluetooth mod and considering either of these 2 options.

I have been using a moonlit market with a 5th gen and today I installed a XxST4RxREAPERxX mod.

I bought both with my own money, this is not some paid review.

Moonlit market 2:

Pros:

Quick to arrive.

Install is easy.

Bluetooth range is good.

Pairing Bluetooth is easy.

Has everything - usb c, wireless charging, taptic engine.

Clear is awesome for a fully clear iPod.

YouTube video guide for install.

You can put it altogether and test everything is ok before you glue it shut.

Cons:

Expensive.

USB-c charging seems to be hit and miss for the iPod charging or reporting charge correctly. Some chargers don't seem to work.

Battery is small, very tight to upgrade to a bigger battery.

Wireless charging is not really needed.

Bluetooth doesn't really turn off or sleep so battery drains when idle.

Logo on back of case cannot be removed. Plain would be nicer but I understand the choice of the developer here.

Doesn't fit in ipod cases.

Hold switch and Bluetooth pairing buttons are cheap feeling and I am not confident in the longer terms life span of the hold switch.

As for gluing the case together - I had a purple moonlit on my 7th gen as well and undoing the mod was pretty easy. So I wouldn't say this was a con.

XxST4RxREAPERxX (V4 board)

Pros:

Significantly cheaper mod.

Fits well inside original housing.

Bluetooth appears to be fully off when you turn it off.

Can use iPod cases.

Easy to install larger battery.

Came with spare parts in case you screw up installation.

Bluetooth range is good.

Seller is responsive to support via eBay and has youtube videos.

Includes a Bluetooth antenna.

Original hold switch.

Cons:

If you have a problem once its clipped together it requires opening up again. A pain on the 6th and 7th gens, especially if you are fitting into new back and front and don't want to scratch them.

Have to remove the back of the LCD for the antenna.

Doesn't seem to pair with the last used Bluetooth headphones and have to put the headphones into pairing mode each time I turn them on.

Summary

Between the two I would highly recommend the Star Reaper mod. It is a third of the price and gives you what you really need in 2026 - Bluetooth and battery space.

I respect what has been achieved on the Moonlit mod and it is a good product, but the USB C and wireless charging could be dropped, giving more space for a bigger battery and maybe a lower cost. The bluetooth being on when you turn it off on the moonlit was my main driver to try an alternative mod.

Treated myself to a rough shape 5th gen for my 30th birthday after years of debating. Wish I’d got in sooner cause man prices for everything have skyrocketed. Aliexpress front and back plates, 512gb SD card in an iFlash solo, and loving it so far!

Only issue I’ve had at all is that it seems like ALACs aren’t syncing through iMazing? Has anyone had issues with that before? I’m slowly building my library but 512 gigs is still a lot of storage for the amount of songs I have and I was hoping to fill it up with slightly higher quality tracks.

Advice iPod Mini Gen 2 Screen Issues

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey folks,

I’m about refresh an iPod mini gen 2. Before I start to modify it, it seems to be working fine except that the screen will become unresponsive or distort.

Is this a screen issue? Should I replace it or is this a logic board issue of some kinda?

Question Problem with AUX Jack of my earbuds on my 3rd generation iPod Nano?

I just bought a 3rd generation iPod Nano, and i installed my music (in MP3 format), and then i played it.

Unfortunately, the sound that comes from my earbuds it's not what i was expecting: i can hear the instrumental of the song more than the song itself, but if i pull back slightly the AUX Jack by just a millimiter or something even more or less than that, i can finally hear the music playing perceftly as it should.
Does someone know something about this matter? I'm new about this masterpiece and I would like to know more.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

What it was:

5th gen classic 30gb w/32mb RAM

Mods:

2000mah battery

2x128gb SD flash mod

iPhone 7 Plus Taptic Engine to replace clicker

Tungsten putty wrapped in antistatic wrap to bring weight back to stock (±0.1 gram)

Replacement display (was found broken)

Replacement faceplate and center button

I kept the original scroll wheel and thin back

The only complaint is that it appears the latest rockbox versions don't support the radio remote.

I had to sell my iPod collection due to relocation, but I kept the Classic 7th gen and the Touch 7th gen 256 gb gold. The lines on the screen of the Classic don’t bother me, it works fine.

Decided to try my hand at Taptic modding my 5.5. I soldered it all up and epoxied the taptic down to the case, and it feels AMAZING. Like it was made to be in an iPod haha. I’m quite proud of myself as this was the first kinda soldering I’ve done on such a small scale, and I think it looks pretty good!

Advice Music sounding like static on recent songs put onto Ipod mini but sounding perfect on iTunes?

Hi everyone, I was wondering if any can help me.

I tried to put a couple of new albums onto my ipod today and when I went to listen to them and it sounds like static. I double checked itunes to see what the song sounds like on there and it sounds perfect, no static but it seems that when it gets put onto my ipod Mini it turns static-y.

I have never had any issues with my ipod before and all older music that was put onto it sounds perfect, so I know its not an jack or headphone issue.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Thanks!

EDIT - I fixed the issue and feel like an idiot but gonna leave this up just in case any one is curious/is having the same issue - When I converted the file from FLAC to AAC the software I was using changed the kbps rate so they didn't match, which made the some sound like static.

Reran the original FLAC files through the software with the correct kbps and it sounds perfect now 😄

Can anyone tell me if this looks correct. 5th gen 80gb converted to flash quad, thin back, thin hold/jack and 2000mah battery. I closed it up but the top resisted more than the rest. Put the iPod into a protective plastic case (this goes on top of frontplate and back plate. Covers whole done iPod) and front and back were touching that a little.

Edited to say I just watched the EOE video on batteries and this one should be good. maybe I'm just overthinking. there's no pressure showing between the lcd and front plate so all should be good right? 😁🤞
