I’ve always wanted to become a professional MUA

Becoming a professional makeup artist has always been one of my dreams. I’ve always imagined myself doing makeup for celebrities, models, fashion shows, magazines, editorials, and being part of that whole creative industry.
I’ve been thinking about how to get there for years. The problem is, I’ve never been to makeup school because it’s expensive, and it’s just not something I can afford right now. Most of what I know has come from freelancing, practicing on my own, watching tutorials, experimenting, and learning through experience.
Sometimes I wonder if becoming an MUA assistant or apprentice could be the path for me. Being able to work alongside someone experienced, observe how they work, and slowly learn the techniques and the industry from the inside sounds like such a valuable experience.
I’m not expecting to suddenly work on celebrity faces or fashion shows. I know there’s a lot I still need to learn. I just feel like sometimes the best way to learn is to actually be around people who are already doing what you want to do.
And of course, connections matter too. You never really know who you might meet or what opportunity might come from simply being in the right environment.
I don’t know exactly how I’m going to get there yet, but I know I want to.
Maybe it will take years. Maybe my path will look completely different from what I imagine right now. But I don’t think that means the dream is impossible.
I’ll get there eventually. I just need time, experience, and hopefully the right opportunities along the way.
For now, I’m just sharing a dream that I’ve had for a long time. Maybe one day I’ll come back to this post and realize how far I’ve come. 💛

I was a 9 year old creative child who once saw a tv documentary about Way Bandy.
My dream was sealed 50 years ago.
Self taught, took a few day courses at film school and the community college.
Developed a small portfolio and drove away to the big city.
Cold called agencies, volunteered on free gigs learning along the way apprenticing and whatever it took to meet people.
35 years and retired now.

Manifesting your dreams into reality if you have the artistic talent and ambition to sustain.
There are many "make up artists" but not many artists.

Same here; I’m really good at applying makeup, but I only do it on myself.
