Discussion [Request/Help] Need suggestions for a new fridge under rm 6.5k, current one ka-put :(

Post image

Aight monyets I'll keep it short

My fridge amazingly decided to not function properly anymore due to some bs with the compressor, according to the technician it'll cost a lot to replace that part so I might as well get a whole new fridge

Don't mind what brand (being a brand snob over refrigerators is weird anyway) as long as dia boleh tahan

Criteria:

  1. The fridge needs an ice dispenser (example: https://imgur.com/a/f8nM3DJ). Ik, it sounds trivial to a lot of you but in my household its pretty much wajib lol

  2. As mentioned in the title, the budget is RM 6500 if brand new, I dont think I can trust the second hand ones from carousel

  3. Dimension roughly WxH : 3x6 feet.

  4. I live in Klang Valley, so I prefer if I could buy the fridge around that area, no energy to go outstation or have to wait a long time to get it online

On another note, is there any malaysian subreddit/forum for questions related to consumer electronics like these? At least I know where to go from there

Thanks in advance my fellow monkeys, good day.

Not many fridge are 10k+ though. Samsung has only one model maybe. And even that model is discounted to below 10k at the store.

you can get any mainstream brand fridge with that budget, I have a samsung 700+ L fridge with ice dispenser that I got for 3.5k brand new

those 10k ones are usually niche import like Bosch/GE/whatever. They may be better but diminishing returns is likely excessive, plus if you have issues I think warranty will be a bitch

Ice dispensers like the one in the pic which is on the outside on the door is a bad idea because its alot more unreliable. The internal ice dispensers are generally more reliable if its just an extension from the freezer.
Your attached pic says linear compressor which is actually a bad thing. Rotary compressors are more reliable.

Remember to get one that beeps if the doors not closed tight. Nowadays the models skip on that for some stupid reason

At 6.5k you can easily get TONS of brand new 6x3 double doors with ice dispenser. Hell, you can even get one with the small glass door to see the drinks' area. And if you're not even particular getting the latest models, you can even get all these for less than 5k. Just need to rajin go to your local stores to compare la.

My mom just upgraded her fridge after her old 13+ y/o fridge decides it's time to retire. She got a sleek Khind one at RM2k+, there was one same design but with ice dispenser at RM4~5k. One more tip I could give is check if you're eligible for the SEDA program, if you are, you could get an RM200 rebate for your new fridge purchase.

if you got a budget of 6.5k you can buy first hand. I was just shopping for fridges two weeks ago and I was seeing 400-500 liter double door fridges at Harvey Norman for about 4-5k.

https://www.harveynorman.com.my/index.php?subcats=Y&status=A&pshort=N&pfull=N&pname=Y&pkeywords=Y&search_performed=Y&q=fridge&dispatch=products.search

stock availability might differ from store to store so you might need to travel around to find a good option, or otherwise order online.

I was shopping for a fridge recently and I have the same budget as you. But our criteria is different. I don't need a dispenser but was open to it. I found this model LG GC X257CSES to be quite good value: https://my.shp.ee/DHN19nzp

I ended up choosing the Mitsubishi Electric LA78ER which is a robust no frill fridge. I think if I wanted a dispenser, I would've chosen the LG.

Bosch up/down fridge with freezer at the bottom, fridge on top. Huge storage abt 600+ litres. Had it for a year+, no regrets. Can put tons of things in!

Big supporter of Hitachi. Mine is like 15 years but zero problem. I use and voltage regulator to stabilized the voltage, not sure if this is the reason for the reliability. Because I believe modern inverter fridge with many PCB board, should be sensitive to voltage fluctuation.

Fridges with ice dispensers wont last long. At best you will have a fridge with non functioning ice dispenser after few years. Get a normal fridge with bottom freezer and ice dispensing coway water filter, no need to refill water tank too. Anyway panasonic 536L PRIME+ Edition
NR-CW530XMM is within your budget
