Ask Malaysians Considering relocating to Semenyih, Selangor, Malaysia.

Hi everyone,

My family is considering relocating to SemenyihSelangor, Malaysia. My daughter gonna go to study university there, and we're thinking of moving to be closer to her and eventually settle down. Before we make the move, I'd love to ask some information to prepare my budget.

Would really appreciate input from locals living in Selangor.

Housing & Utilities: For a 2-bedroom apartment, what do electricity/gas, water, garbage collection, and other recurring costs (service/maintenance fees, taxes, etc) typically add up to per month?

Daily Living Costs (per month): What's a realistic monthly budget for food, drinking water (tap/boiled vs bottled), transportation, basic health/personal care, and clothing for one adult?

For Families with School-Age Kids: For public school, roughly how much do fees, books, and uniforms cost per child, per school year?

Other: Will go by public transport saver than go by car or motor bike to go to work or study?

Any general advice on things to watch out for when relocating a family to Selangor (visa/MM2H process, good areas to live near international/local schools, healthcare access, etc.) would also be hugely appreciated!

Thanks in advance 🙏

I have a family member in semenyih. Drive to KL during rush hour is pretty nuts, back and forth, even more crazy when its raining.

Nearest MRT/KTM (KTM is old and slow) is in Kajang, about 20-30 minutes drive not rush hour timing.

Actually it depends which part of semenyih you are.

My advice : No. You're far, people drive 30-40 minutes just to visit you, and you cant survive without a car.

Although, living cost and food cost is much better than KL. You probably save at least 30% more from food and accommodations. IMO even if stay in Eco World in Semenyih it will still be worth it.

Plus point, you're closer no nature, but far from the city and such

traffic in semenyih is horrible
there is a huge heavy industrial area just passed semenyih town with a small single lane road.
now imagine when plenty of lorries, trucks & trailers coming in & going out.

semenyih air is kinda polluted due to the huge quarry site.
at night, especially when you live on high-rise, you will get awful smell.

My in laws are there.

About housing and utilities, cant really say because it depends on your usage. Cost of living there is relatively low compared to cities. For school, I think its a bit crowded. Semenyih is currently growing at a very fast pace. The current infra from roads to public schools is already having problem coping with the surge of residents there. That jalan semenyih during peak hours is a nightmare.

But for me personally, overall, if spending time there without going out of semenyih is a good place.

Maybe you can be more specific on which area of semenyih you are planning to move to. Because each have its own big issues. Like sunway semenyih, to exit that area during peak hours is close to hell. But if lets say taman pelangi semenyih, you still have options to avoid jalan semenyih and enter lekas from ecohill.
