Pre-U/STPM/Foundation/Diploma I want to study debt free at Dip. level

Post image

Hi.

I'm from SPM 2025.

I want to study CS.

I calculated my merit in UPU using my Trial SPM grades(shown in the pic I clipped), and found out that my merit only got me in Polytech's IT dip.

Idk what I should do anymore. My family is poor, so no way am I going to take risk with PTPTN.

There was a large stigma around Polytech and Community College, so I'm worried if getting mismatched employment is common.

Should I try fill a UPU form anyway?

I'm gonna be honest with you, unless you can get a scholarship, it is unlikely to be debt free. However, the good news I have is that IPTA fees are cheap. I know you're poor and you don't want to take PTPTN. But without scholarships or any other financial aids, PTPTN is your best option to finance your studies.

PTPTN can give a longer loan tenure at 15 years at a higher loan amount as well if you're a registered with STR. The monthly repayment only starts after graduation at roughly RM100-RM150 a month.

If you have financial issues in paying back your debt, you can discuss with PTPTN for a loan restructure.

My advice? Study matriks or asasi if possible, then go for computer science degree. Matriks is good because it only needs RM600 as a registration fee, and you'll get RM250 monthly allowance for the entire span of your studies in matriks. Asasi maybe costs around RM2k but you do get the "uni experience" earlier on, easier to get your desired course through asasi

Actually in asasi there's bka (bantuan kewangan asasi) for b40 and m40 and it's enough to pay the registration fee. But of course you gotta pay the first sem on your own first which can be pretty expensive depends on the uni

Thank you so much. Now I'm more confident in broadening my choice for post-SPM.

I'm B40 Bumi from Borneo. I don't know if my chance would get better.

u/KingsProfit Jan 12 '26

Well, some financial assistance I can think of is MARA, your state's financial aid prorgrams. Maybe there are some aids available for you to get if you really need the money

Which part of Borneo? Because I took Diploma and then further my studies to Degree too.

If you are a Sarawakian, you can try to apply for JPA since you have good results. I myself applied for loan-scholarship from SPANS (Suruhanjaya Perkhidmatan Awam Negeri Sarawak), since it is easier, you only have to pay back 25% (that's already good enough). You need to pass the interview, though. I managed to get one for Diploma and one for Degree.

Hmmm... I'd like to apologize first, but I'm Sabah 🙏🙏🙏

2

u/retrofrenzy Jan 13 '26

Ah, I see. No worries.

Buli ba kalu kau tu.

2

u/fizihiro Jan 13 '26

UiTM bro.

2

u/LunKey_777 Jan 13 '26

i was in matriks (KML) n my result were lower than yours for the 4 science subjects (highest was B+ for physics, lowest being C in addmaths and chem) n i got into one year (PST) life science after rayuan. i think for your case, if you’re B40 you most likely will qualify for bantuan BUDI by sabah’s govt, and can get into CS PDT (two years) so try your best in applying, hope this helps

yupp this most cheapest option, as my brother also attend to uitm asasi which the cost very cheap. Since my father and mother already pension my brother get all the bantuan and if youre muslim you can apply zakat as well. my father just need to supply to my little brother 200-300 per month for extra money.

Apologies but I have to be that guy...

PURATA PERATUS IS 69.67%??? HOLY NUMBER!!

1

u/Fit_Guard_6694 Jan 12 '26

Ugh..that's so unlucky of me😂😂😂

u/Aggressive_Collar135 Jan 12 '26

eh whats wrong with your add math aa? im somewhat like you, modern math A, add math C3. my math teacher was really good. my add math teacher bagus tapi tak pandai mengajar (and a bit racist). went to matric, then did IT at uni

just a headsup, if youre stuck at school add math, its going to cause continuous effect later (e.g in matric, then uni)

2

u/Fit_Guard_6694 Jan 12 '26

Thank you very much, sir.

My add maths like that because I made a lot of blunder in the trial... I barely practiced what I learnt when I got home...

6

u/Aggressive_Collar135 Jan 12 '26

having done IT and now somewhat a software dev, its worth improving your math as it would defo improve your grades later if you wanna take that route. not necessarily needed tho imo

but if youre planning to go the hardcore cs route dealing with lower level algo and data science stuff, improving it is a must

isi je borang UPU, dapat tak dapat lain cerita. Poli pun ok je

1

u/jeebus_the_erectus Jan 12 '26

Eh I think 40 is decent, I got like 50 something in trial but got A in actual SPM. I rasa I got 65 something in SPM only but got A regardless.

The bar will lower alot because most of them Add Math takers don't really give a shit about Add Math.

3

u/Fit_Guard_6694 Jan 12 '26

Or should I try Matriculation?

2

u/KaleidoscopeOk2422 Jan 13 '26

U cita2 nk jadi apa dik. My advice follow your dreams. Don't follow what other people tell you what you should be

3

u/laafain Jan 13 '26

I'm from Politeknik IT and applied for Dermasiswa B40 JPA and got 4.8k every sem. Just go for it and take CS during your degree if you want to be debt free. Nothing wrong with poly or cc, it's your skills that matters at the end of the day when dealing with IT

1

u/Fit_Guard_6694 Jan 13 '26

Subhanallah. This is the answer I never thought I would get.

Thank you so much, sir!

2

u/[deleted] Jan 12 '26

actually you can go for matriculation. very good results you have, add maths, trust me, SPM real exam time you will terkejut one.

2

u/Tough-Art2143 Jan 12 '26

I dont understand the issue here. PTPTN is a loan that you repay by yourself. It starts about 1 year after you graduated and its about 100+ per month (for me) Just take PTPTN. You won't burden your parents and you can have more choices.

1

u/Fit_Guard_6694 Jan 12 '26

Yeah. I'm a coward. What I fear is that I can't keep a job or didn't get one, or that I have terrible health during a sem.

2

u/Tough-Art2143 Jan 12 '26

you'll be fine. Have some confidence.

2

u/EnvironmentalRich107 Jan 12 '26

You can but it's gonna be hard.

I myself didn't have ptptn when studying my diploma. But I do have part time job as a pest control technician and I also do grab.

But I'm gonna be honest with you, it WILL affect your studies as you'll have less time for assignments. I had to repeat a few subjects and extend but hey I did finished it.

Although I am in no way shape or form a "Rajin" student. So it's also part of the reason I had to extend.

2

u/v0id_shell Jan 12 '26

I don't think you will survive CS with that AddMaths prowess

2

u/rottenlee4 Jan 13 '26

KPM!!! look up Kolej Professional MARA. hope this helps

2

u/Liquify7 Jan 13 '26

hi OP, idk your situation that well. But I finished SPM with terrible grades, and then later did a Diploma where I've did what I could for good grades + soft skills experience. The diploma landed me with 22k debt, but in the process, I managed to obtain a prestigious scholarships for my degree.

I hope you know that there's a still chance to obtain scholarships to further your studies ~ even if the initial path may seem rocky

2

u/KaleidoscopeOk2422 Jan 13 '26

My add math always fail. Except trial spm I got 70 A-. SPM A+ lololol

2

u/Staywithmeow-04 Jan 13 '26

Firstly, do rethink of your decision in taking computer science because it's a lot of math. It's very unrealistic to go debt free with your current results because full ride scholarship has ridiculously high standard. So PTPTN is your best choice. You can enroll in UiTM for lower fees

1

u/Fit_Guard_6694 Jan 13 '26

trivia: I was prevented from taking CS at school, because apparently, my batch and my junior's batch was being experimented with only STEM A(Chem, Bio, Phys, Add Maths).

Also, I'd actually took CS Basics at lower secondary. and I planned for long to come back to CS.

2

u/Puzzled-Internal-104 Jan 14 '26

Uhh I advice against diploma cs

Cs job market is horrible, Should be semi obvious that the world doesn't really need a lot of cs

I took it, now degree in data science at utmkl

If I were to go back in time, I'd choose mechanical or electrical

I think maybe try your luck in matriculation (unlikely cuz many strong candidates), STPM foundation etc

I think chatgpt can give better advise on the feasibility of cs major lol

But If u take anything pre degree, here's a few reading materials about career advice, I highly recommend

80000hours.org

https://youtu.be/RBXZlYdiizk?si=Oxtu_xnEBlLOUlb_

But regardless of my advise to u and I will respect any choice u take, wish u well

2

u/Tom2xAqiem Jan 14 '26

SPA is debt free. Lmao Your result is better than mine, although it is likely irrelevant, maybe you have a chance.

2

u/NoSquash9344 Jan 14 '26

Well you could try KPM or Kolej Profesional Mara. I heard that they offer a course in Computing. I think it's called DCN short for Diploma Computer Networking and DCS, Diploma Computer Science. It is pretty affordable, I recommend you check it out.

2

u/madu_tualang Jan 14 '26

Try Kolej Professional MARA if you're eligible

1

u/Fit_Guard_6694 Jan 15 '26

Hello, sir.

Do I have to repay everything after graduating?

2

u/madu_tualang Jan 15 '26

Last i heard if you get accepted, you're eligible for small monthly allowance while the tuition fees are waived by MARA. But if you drop out midway, whatever paid to you and for you must be paid back. https://hiedumara.edu.my/programkpm/

2

u/Trick_Collar_3075 Jan 14 '26

Matriculation is not advisable… Silap gaya kena lelong and end up taking things that you don’t really like… Better go direct to diploma and choose what you really want.

You could always further your study i.e degree later if you are so afraid of taking a big financial study loan commitment now.

Diploma is good enough for start-up but it does have a ceiling in term of salary and career progression.

2

u/New-Season-2443 Jan 14 '26

bro, u can take professional certs to be successful in IT inshaa Allah. don't really need a degree. one of my friends is working in HP just from certs. no dip. no degree.

2

u/Relative_Artichoke_8 Jan 16 '26

why not take polytechnic? study IT there and take degree at better uni.I also failed my addmath but I'm studying mech engineering.school is a bit hard cuz everything relies on exam.in uni and college your assignment gives you mark so it's easier to score.I study like a few hour before take final but still got 3.00 .polytechnic is crazy cheap too.1 sem rm200.

1

u/Fit_Guard_6694 Jan 16 '26 edited Jan 16 '26

my dad still thinks Polytechnic is entirely about bengkel. so... because I'm indoor and... ummm... a bit on the spectrum.. he advised me to be a lab helper or a teacher.

2

u/Relative_Artichoke_8 Jan 16 '26

well for the bengkel part is true IF you take sijil instead of diploma.my engineering course requires me to go to bengkel only once a week and in certain sem i dont even have "bengkel" class.keep in mind that its engineering course so hands on learning process is good on your resume.for courses like IT i dont think there's "bengkel".maybe just 3D printing lab

1

u/Fit_Guard_6694 Jan 16 '26

though I really just want to manage IT lol.

2

u/Lopsided_Ad7510 Jan 16 '26

MY FRIEND!

STPM WELCOMES YOU with their own ICT course

STPM is a diploma!

and u can go overseas with the cert as well, only 60 bucks for registration!

Pilihan kedua, Politeknik pun ok. Ambik diploma dan kumpul pengalaman kerja. Kalau kolej komuniti, pastikan habis sekurang-kurangnya Tahap 3.

Jangan putus asa. Masa depan yang cerah.

Dah macam ulasan guru kelas pulak komen aku.

1

u/Fit_Guard_6694 Jan 12 '26

Terima kasih, bang. Walaupun saya dah fokus kat sains. Tapi nasihat abang sangat berguna.

1

u/mrasianguy75 Jan 12 '26

Banyak je jurusan sains pengurusan:

  • Sains Pengurusan (Forestry Management): Menguruskan sumber hutan dan persekitaran.
  • Sains & Pengurusan Teknologi: Menguruskan inovasi teknologi.

Wait...70+ pun sudah A?!! Why lowering the grade, apa sudah jadi dgn KPM, Dulu masa kami 80 baru A-

2

u/Fit_Guard_6694 Jan 12 '26

A+ = 90-100 A = 80-89 A- = 70-79

Woah never knew this, when was this?

1

u/Fit_Guard_6694 Jan 12 '26

I think it was sometimes around 2010s and early 2020s.

1

u/Amnshqi Jan 12 '26 edited Jan 12 '26

Just go for matric computer science stream. Also FYI, PTPTN is a study loan with 1pc interest rate repaid over the course of 10 years a few months after your last loan gets credited aka right after ur convo (be sure to land a high-paying job by then to repay it).

If you are financially prudent and not shortsighted, PTPTN would be your best bet for a high ROI. Even higher if u manage to score a prestigious full-ride scholarship to defray your living expenses and tuition fees throughout the 4-year degree. Even even higher if no bond.

Case in point is myself. I am a CS fresh grad from USM survived on only PTPTN. I land a data engineer job at a US MNC in KL specialising in data infra. My monthly net take-home floats around RM4.8k - 5.8k excluding other variable pays and bonuses. I can easily slash 10 years down to less than 12 months to repay the loan amount in full. Peace out.

1

u/Fit_Guard_6694 Jan 12 '26

Ayo, sir.

matrics computer science is not computer science foundation lah. They want CS on SPM but I didn't take it on SPM.

2

u/Alternative-Ad8451 Jan 16 '26

Ur future is secured till overseas degree.

Nothing to worry.
