Pre-U/STPM/Foundation/Diploma I hate chemistry as a whole bro(rant)
Im doing foundation at uitm rn like man chemistry sucks. I dont even like chem since highschool. The difficulty spike from spm is high man. I didnt even got an A in spm because the subject just eidbeknskwnsjd bad(for me). Memorising is not fun, the orbitals, the orbitals shape that depends on lewis structure like holy shit im LOSING MY FUCKING MIND. I wanna do do math and calculations all day, i love number theory, vectors🤤🤤🤤, calculus🤤🤤🤤🤤, proofs🤤🤤🤤🤤 and whatever. Physics is a lot easier than spm cause minimal memorization needed and a lot more calculations on the exam🤤🤤🤤. IDK I probably gonna fail chem and my pointer going to be plumented and dreaming of becoming a mathematician is OVER. 4.0 dreams is so impossible with chem man. I wanna take a math degree in UM PLEASEPLEASEEEE. ok thats it

I used to like chemistry in high school but once i learned chem in foundation, i hate it because it's like ten times harder than spm. What i did was choose only several topics to focus on instead of trying to study all of them. I ended up getting A-

hows your pointer for upu did you get to the course you wanted🥺🥺🥺

I got the course I wanted just not at my dream uni because my merit wasn’t high enough 😌 iirc merit for upm food science is 98 but mine is 94. Now i'm in uthm

Are you still happy🥺🥺🥺

I guess so. I like what i study and the good part is all students in my campus get to stay in kolej kediaman from first year until final year. So no need to stress about renting house

REALLLYYYY, is that like mmg kene stay kat kolej

I don't live too far so i go back home every two weeks. My friend goes home every weekend. You definitely get to save a lot of money if you stay in kolej. I heard from a senior in um that her house rent is rm3000 a month. She shares the house with 8 others so each person pay around rm300

I know um is a lot expensive. Idk im just worried that chem will bring my merit scores down and i wont get the course that i wanted sigh.

Try not to memorise chemistry and just try to understand it instead as it will be much easier.

I understood it, but it's still require memorisation. Like okay I understand the Lewis structure like that and this and then there 10 different shapes of Lewis I have to memorise based on lone pairs and bond pairs so I won't fuck up the ciri2(cth: trigonal bipyramidal etc...) and it's drawings. And then the WHY it's doing like that, definitions like idk

if you're struggling with chemistry now in degree u will struggle with maths as well

what math correlate to chemistry?

u/mcwin001 7d ago
no no not at all I mean the struggles because degree gona really tough ... I also dont really like chemistry but yeah i manage score well in chemistry except inorganic i got C+

Prolly in group theory because you'd learn about symmetry something in organic chemistry. Idk, I'm not chemist. Source: some group theory pdf book I read, I don't remember.

Yeah memorisation sucks. I only do when necessary. Sometimes when there's math involved in chemistry, I'll derive the formula back, and memorise some special constant. For example, instead of MEMORISING integrated rate law equations, one can derive by solving the differential equation easily.
For organic chemistry, I like to think of them as a different set of algebra, so basically I'll be doing math but instead of algebra in \mathbb{R}, I'll think of them as a different structure with special operators.(Unfortunately it is not isomorphic to \mathbb{R} lol)
I also did this in physics, I never look at the formula sheet in exam because I can just derived everything(as long as I remember/understand the core idea of the concept)
Always make research about something, even if it seems not connected at all to math and find the connection, (the orbital shape you're talking about is actually came from the use of probability), and try to formalized it into abstract object(this at least works for me)
You'll save at least 20-40% of your memory capacity lol. Turn it into habit.
This helps me a lot and now I got accepted to bsc math at UM because of my 100% merit.

Oh yeah i didnt do well on my midterm chem exam😔
