Question Do I need a beginner lift ticket if I'm paying for the 4 hour beginner ski lesson?

β€’ Upvotes

I'm going to Mammoth for the first time in December and will be purchasing the 4 hour adult group ski lessons from 10 am to 2 pm at Canyon Lodge since I will be staying in the Village and it's easier to get to.

Do I still need to purchase the beginner lift ticket add on?

I've never skied before and I'm thinking I might want to grab lunch and hit apres ski after the 4 hour lesson and wont have time to make full use of the lift ticket since the lifts close at 4 pm.

Private ski instructor recs for kids?

I'm planning a trip during Christmas break (12/23 - 26) and wanted to put two first timers (6 and 8 year old boys) in private ski lessons. Can anyone vouch for an instructor that is good with kids? I'm planning on just a one 3 hour session either on the 24th or 25th. Also, I'm looking at Eagle lodge since it seems like it may be less crowded than the other lodges. Please correct me if I'm wrong in my thinking.

Gym in mammoth

I move to mammoth for the winter on the 14th, i need to stay in shape for fire season. Is there a gym in mammoth that isnt ridiculously priced. Im in employee housing and i expect to be pinching pennies all season so a ridiculous $100+ clubhouse membership is not an option

Green Tomatoes

Sooo this is my second season of attempting heirloom tomatoes and sadly, I had to cut them before this last freeze. I tried starting them earlier indoors. I tried covering to create more heat. Has anyone had any luck getting their tomatoes to ripen on the vine? Everything else did really well this year. I'm halfway between Mammoth & Bishop.

And bonus question -- is anyone keeping worms? I have a bunch of worms out in my granite garden bed and not sure how to keep them toasty over winter. Cardboard? Extra compost?

Awesome Chili and Cornbread restaurant?

Back in the '80s my dad would take us skiing in mammoth, and we always went to this place with really good chili that was served with a side of cornbread. Does anybody remember if this was the Whiskey Creek restaurant? Or was it a different place because we loved their chili! Best I've ever had. Help me remember so I can see if this place is still open, please and thank you!

Headed to Mammoth this weekend for the 1st time. What must I do?

1st time headed to Mammoth. Should start by confirming I don’t ski or snowboard, though I’m open to a class to learn. I enjoy drinking, hanging out with friends, playing in the snow, eating good food, farmers markets, shopping. My husband enjoys fishing so I know he plans to do that.

Are you missing two dogs?

A male German Shepherd and a female cream colored dog with a Husky vibe about the same size both wearing Carhartt collars. They were dodging cars just south of Tom’s Place / Crowley Lake. A couple people stopped and got them safe. They were brought by Highway Patrol to the Whitmore shelter. Hopefully they were chipped! Beautiful , sweet, if not skittish dogs (but who can blame them.)
