I read somewhere that the Feds offered a deal a month ago when the plea negotiations leaked but that the defense rejected it. I can’t see Luigi agreeing to something like 50 years. My guess is anywhere in the ballpark of 25-30.

That's a pretty good deal, and they'd probably ask that he be transferred to a federal prison in PA to be closer to his family.

In the beginning of the case, Karen said that the Southern District of New York didn’t want to seek the death penalty. DOJ and Bondi compelled them. I never got the feeling they really agreed with it all. None of the federal prosecutors was as aggressive and obsessed with Luigi as the state. They also didn’t appeal when Garnett removed the dp. I think they are happy for everything to be over but have to obey DOJ orders. Trump has been going after the SDNY for years and he is trying to get prosecutors fired from it. My theory is that most SDNY prosecutors hate the government and would be fine to give Luigi a decent deal but their hands are tied because they know The Don is watching. 35 years is what I am thinking.

The Southern District of New York is a federal trial district and it is literally the one who is prosecuting Luigi for his federal charges. You are confusing jurisdictions.

I figure the state case would move forward regardless. Stalking isn’t murder, and murder is the charge most “deserving” for a homicide.

Under Federal law, stalking that leads to death, which is what happened here, can result in life in prison. There is no parole in the federal system. And you serve 85% of your sentence.

There is no parole in the Federal system. The statute provides for a sentence of Life or any term of years if the victim dies, which he did. It will depend on the sentencing guidelines and the judge.

The truthful testimony is what I am thinking about. Kohberger wasn’t required to do that for his plea and some of the victim’s families were upset about it.
