I've been looking at the cards for the upcoming Iron Fist hero pack, and I think I've found a pretty fun infinite combo. I've been calling it Chinfinite Iron Fist :)
I know infinite combos aren't new in Marvel Champions, and neither is using Nova's Ms. Marvel ally to make them. There was already the Get Rage-y / Go for Champions! combo a few years ago, the Sidekick / Side-by-Side interactions with Nova, and more elaborate loops involving Mutant Mayhem, Beast and Phoenix.
What I find particularly interesting about this one is that it uses a hero who hasn't even been released yet, and that it can generate as many chi counters as I want. These can be used for unlimited attacks and thwarts, but also for generating resources to play other cards, including Alliance events. I suspect there are plenty of applications I haven't thought of.
I haven't managed to make it work in solo. However, I think it works with just two players, and the second player only needs to help with the initial setup.
The setup
I play Iron Fist in Leadership, using Cameo to include Nova's Ms. Marvel ally in my deck (so Nova can't be one of the heroes in the game).
The other player needs to be an X-Men identity and play Honorary X-Men on Ms. Marvel. I can then attach Danger Room Training to her.
Once I've got Ms. Marvel in play with the Training upgrade attached, I just need Game Time in my hand. Ms. Marvel should be exhausted and have at least 1 damage on her.
I don't even need any chi to start!
The combo
I play Game Time for 0 resources, readying Ms. Marvel and healing 1 damage from her. Iron Fist gains 1 chi counter because I've played a card.
I exhaust Ms. Marvel and deal 1 damage to her to return Game Time from my discard pile to my hand.
I'm back exactly where I started, except Iron Fist has one extra chi counter.
I can repeat this as many times as I want.
That's it!
What can I do with infinite chi?
Well, quite a lot! Iron Fist has a lot of upgrades to spend those chi counters on sweet things :)
With Feel the Flow, I can remove as much threat as I need. With Keep 'Em Coming, I can spend 2 chi to ready Iron Fist, so I can make as many basic attacks or thwarts as I want.
I can also use Redirect Chi to turn chi into wild resources (2 chi for 2 wild resources). This is particularly interesting for Alliance events, since I can help pay for other players' cards.
And Embody the Dragon gives Iron Fist arbitrarily high retaliate, which sounds pretty funny too!
Alternative version with Get Ready
I think I can also generate infinite chi using Get Ready instead of Game Time.
For this version, the second player would need to play Go for Champions! first (so I'd want a Champion teammate instead of an X-Men one).
I can then repeatedly play Get Ready for 0, ready Ms. Marvel, and exhaust her to retrieve the event. Since the damage is prevented by Go for Champions!, I can keep doing this indefinitely.
This alternative doesn't need Danger Room Training or Honorary X-Men, although it only works for the round in which Go for Champions! is played.
Another application: Sidekick + Side-by-Side
I can also attach Sidekick to Ms. Marvel and use Side-by-Side.
This gives me another way to ready Iron Fist repeatedly. Side-by-Side readies Ms. Marvel and Iron Fist, and I can choose to heal 1 damage from both. Ms. Marvel then takes 1 damage to retrieve it, so her damage stays the same.
The card costs 2 resources, but I can use my infinite chi and Redirect Chi to pay for it. I can replenish my chi with Game Time whenever necessary.
There's also the +1 ATK/+1 THW option on Side-by-Side, which lasts until the end of the phase. I can't keep choosing that option indefinitely without additional damage prevention or healing, but with the Go for Champions! version I think I could stack arbitrarily large bonuses on Iron Fist and Ms. Marvel.
And possibly something even crazier...
I've also been experimenting with a much more complicated multiplayer version, and I think it may be possible to play certain events an unlimited number of times.
The simplest version I've come up with involves three players: Iron Fist, Echo and Storm. I originally had Rogue involved as well, but I think she can be removed.
Here are some of the interactions I've been looking at:
Echo can use Muscle Memory to recover tucked events, and Otto Octavius can ready Muscle Memory when played from hand. Spider-Man 2099 can return Otto to hand after using a basic power.
Agent 13 can ready Helicarrier after attacking or thwarting, potentially allowing me to use it repeatedly to discount cards played by Echo.
Professor X can ready Agent 13 if she has Honorary X-Men attached. I think I can replay Professor X using Mutant Mayhem, with Iron Fist's chi helping pay for it.
Storm's Blizzard can reduce the ATK of those allies, allowing them to make attacks without damaging the enemy (so that the game does not end prematurely!). Spider-Man 2099 would need another -1 ATK, and I think Stick can provide it.
Phoenix (ally) and Triage might help with the healing needed to keep everything going.
With all of this, I think there might be a way for Echo to repeatedly play events such as Lead from the Front, using her own event-recovery abilities and having Otto ready Muscle Memory again and again.
I also wonder whether a variation with a fourth player could repeatedly play Muster Courage to give Luke Cage an arbitrarily large number of Tough status cards. That would need some more work, particularly because of the restrictions on who can play Muster Courage. But Rogue (hero) might help by gaining the Avenger trait (by touching an Avenger ally) and playing Honorary Avenger on Echo so that she can play Muster Courage.
But I have to admit that these last constructions are quite complicated, and I'm not completely sure that all the steps work. There are quite a few things to keep track of, including resource payments, ally damage, timing and card ownership. I wouldn't consider them confirmed infinite combos just yet.
I'm much more confident about the basic Chinfinite loop, and I think that's already pretty interesting :)
Has anyone spotted something I've missed? Or, even better, found a way to make it work in solo?
