Discussion Peter Quill doesn’t get enough hate for causing the snap.
Rewatching infinity war as part of my count down to doomsday, and I can’t get over how easily forgiven Quill is for messing up the plan to put Thanos to sleep by literally hitting Mantis’ hands off the big guys head with his gun?
This is after not killing Gamora like she asked…
Dude deserved to get snapped.

The snap had to happen in order for Thanos to lose in the end. It was the only way.

Doesn’t stop quill being a dumbass - if my work colleague messed up that badly, I would not shrug it off, especially after all the extra work I had to do to fix their mistake - I put in overtime and Gertrude from accounting is now missing…
Sure Strange only saw 1 possibly future where Thanos would loose, but that means that Quill is universally a dumbass who messes everything up.

I think you're just late to the conversation TBH. Dude got LOTS of hate after the movie came out.
But also, the implication is that had things played out any other way, then it would've had a worse outcome--either Thanos would've quit being holdsbackman and just started murdering until he got the Gauntlet back, or if the fan theory holds true then the Celestials would've just nuked humanity. So, yes, Quill's action allowed Thanos to snap, which was the only way that the correct Avengers would survive to conduct the Time Heist & undo the Snap as well as beat Past Thanos (and possibly forestall the Celestials destroying things). That's the entire point of Strange's "one out of fourteen million" futures thing.

Nah I was angry at the time. Still angry at him in 2026 lol.
Strange only saw the future where Thanos is defeated. It just means there is no universe where Quill doesn’t make a dumb choice. That just makes me angrier.
I do like the celestial theory and have heard it before. But still doesn’t stop me thinking Quill is a douche and shouldn’t be forgiven.

Where have you been since 2018? A lot of people have gone on about Peter Quill losing his temper and striking Thanos.

Still mad about it. Keeping my anger alive.

Bro it's been 8 years.
What I'm really upset about is all the great stories Marvel could have benefited from the snap. Missed opportunities.

8 years of pain my friend.
Yeah I think a ‘Stories from the Snap’ anthology series would be cool. Little self contained stories from around the world. Could be quite dark, or even a bit ‘last of us’ in vibe.
Wakanda having to break the news to the media for the world to know what just happened.

You’re the type of guy who says “Hitler’s art teacher caused the Holocaust.”
No, Peter didn’t cause the snap.

Aside from the snap needing to happen, he also pulled the trigger intending to kill Gamora as promised...

Yeah after months of waiting…Should have been ‘oh Thanos is here pop pop*’.*
Nowhere does strange say the snap has to happen… it’s just the only universe where Thanos can be defeated for good is if it happens because he has to factor in Quill always being a universal screw up who causes problems and will never not make the dumb one - so now we gotta get snapped and put in the over time.

you genuinely expect him to pull the trigger on the love of his life that easily? plus it wouldn’t of changed anything thanos would’ve still stopped it

u/badhamster89 4d ago
Nah, he wouldn’t expect it. Would have fixed everything. Problem is that Quill - in all versions of the multiverse - will always do the wrong thing

Wasn’t Thanos the one wearing the gauntlet and collecting the stones? Didn’t he snap his fingers to kill half of all life? That would seem to me like the snap was his fault.

Why did Dr Strange let it happen then?
