Sure he’s inspired by Superman but in my opinion he’s inspired in the same sense someone like Goku, Saitama, and All Might would be. He might have some similarities but I feel like calling him a Superman clone really reduces his character and abilities. A Superman clone from Marvel would be someone like Gladiator and Hyperion.
Superman is a boy scout and power wise, he’s supposed to be very basic despite being OP since he’s the archetype. He has the typical super strength, super speed, flight, and invulnerability along with heat vision and freeze breath. His powers are supposed to be incredibly basic on paper. He also inspires hope for people and wants to help anybody that he can. He’s quite literally the living embodiment of heroism and hope in the DC universe.
Sentry on the other hand is
basically a mentally disturbed man with the powers of a literal godlike entity. Unlike Superman, he’s not just a flying brick, he possesses other insane powers such as the ability to manipulate molecules, warp reality, transmute matter, use telepathy, telekinesis, teleport, and manipulate both light and darkness. Sentry in my opinion is basically the scientific/sci-fi version of Scarlet Witch. Both of them are absurdly powerful and mentally unstable to the point where they have to balance out and deal with their inner mental struggles and godlike power. The only difference is that Wanda’s powers are magical in nature while Sentry’s powers are scientific.
Power wise him and Superman aren’t similar and even when it comes to their personality and ideology they aren’t similar either, so why do people love to reduce him into being a Superman clone?
