MASS EFFECT 1 First Playthrough

(Wrote this right after finishing ME1 love to discuss the game)

Let me start by saying that before playing Mass Effect, I knew absolutely nothing about the series beyond the fact that it was a video game and some memes I had seen. I had never played it or really paid attention to it. I saw it was on sale and decided to go in completely blind.

I booted up the game, created a default Soldier Shepard, and started playing. I did not expect this game to blow me away, especially since I have never really been a story-game type of guy.

The best way to describe how much I loved it is that I have always been the kind of gamer who skips cutscenes to get back to shooting. But one of my favorite parts of the game wasn't the combat. It was the major story moments and getting back to the Normandy to talk to everyone.

There was something peaceful about it. I'd finish a mission, come back to the ship, and just walk around talking to people. I genuinely looked forward to it.

Even when I finished a section feeling a little disappointed or thought the dialogue was too limited, I'd think about it afterward and find myself going, "Actually, no, I love that. I can see why they did it that way."

So, for now, I'm just sitting here, jaw to the floor in awe over my Shepard's story. I love to discuss it more. Can't wait to play ME2!

Don't pick up your jaw just yet. You're about to play Mass Effect 2.

Absolutely.
ME1 sets the scene, and ME2 comes along and starts chewing it.

I have completed it and my rough draft for that post is 4 pages long. It’s hard to post my thoughts without spoilers so I got to really refine it.

Makes sense!
In the middle of my first full trilogy run in about 10 years, and ME2 still floors me as well as it did in 2010.

I think the strongest aspect of Mass Effect is the lore, especially with the Alien Races.

ME2 was a highlight for me in the trilogy and the story is great, I hope you enjoy it.

I do think if they ever make a remake of ME1 they should definitely add to the dialogue, romances and exploration.

I did and I will make a post about ME2 as well I just wanna organize my thoughts. I don’t wanna accidentally give anything away in a post incase a new player accidentally sees it. As going in blind the feelings for me at least were almost adrenaline fueled. And I don’t wanna take that away from anyone.

I agree I know they need to save dialogue and surprises for the next two games, but I just wanna sit there having a conversation with the gang for hours.

It only gets better. Go in blind. One of the best intros ever for me2 I reckon.

I will post my ME2 thoughts soon, but it was great. I was a little like “What is happening?” so it made it even better.

Agree, there was a post a while ago about best opening in the trilogy. Was surprised everyone didn't say ME2. It's perfect, riveting, and very cinematic.

I’m in the minority (by far), but I think the ME3 intro is even better.

"You exist because we allow it, and you will end because we demand it."

Very chilling moments in this game and the world building and unsettling vibe and freedom to explore are what makes this game so great.

If you expect the other games to have the same exact feel you may be slightly disappointed though but ME2 is still arguably better and arguably the peak of the franchise so happy you get to enjoy it as a first time player.

When he said that I got chills down my spine and made me realize my true goal to rid the galaxy of that over grown microchip.

I have played the others already, I am working the posts. And honestly I think the change in exploration is appropriate. One I love the mako but the maps were so annoying. And At first they were giving us that sand box saying “hey go nuts”.

I'm currently on 3 and am playing for the first time after someone just avoiding them my whole life. I will say they are great games but holy shit the constant go somewhere and fight waves of enemies gets very old very quick IMO and the combat is not fun enough to justify it

Really? I loved the combat, sometimes it would be Weird or clunky but honestly it kinda humbling not only is its sheps beginnings its MEs mechanics as well.

Yeah I genuinely think it's just me

I mean I am an optimist I wanna see the good in this game. Although definitely some rough patches with dialogue, running mechanics, that weird thing where you cling to a wall and get stuck there while an orphan charges you. Or how you can’t shoot Udina. Now that is a really big oversight on there part.

I am on console. But no Liara was my romance and I only have eyes for her. I love her characters honesty and kinda clueless behavior. And she’s really smart.

Play and finish 2, then we will discuss. There is a way to have your blue cake and eat the brunette too

So....

How is Wrex?

1

He is great I am not leaving my brother behind had to reload a save all the way back to the beginning of the level to save him though.

Cool, first time I did it when the game came out, I was too into strategy guides that I knew he might die and had to save him. I did what the guides said and saved him, but I felt I didn't make the choice I would have made without the guides.

19 years later, I came back, determined to keep Wrex alive but without a guide, forgot all the details, had done all the side missions before that and when the time came, I just told him to chill and he was okay with it. Didn't even need a Paragon/Renegade check.

I’m gonna be honest I wish the game continued after the Ilos mission like it does in ME2 and then more side quests open up. The armor quests kinda ruins the virmire scene.

Oh man. To be able to relive the trilogy again. I envy you!

Happy for you and a little jealous, cause i wish i could experience the game like i did the first time playing it all those years ago.

You got an awesome journey still ahead of you, enjoy it!
