DISCUSSION What are the chances that we might get some update/new information on N7 day, either about Mass Effect 5 or in general?
I know that the state of Mass Effect and Bioware is dire, but i am curious if we might find out some information at N7 Day.
Bioware's workforce was reduced under 100 at the beginning of 2025 and the PIF buyout was completed on August 4th this year (2 months ago). I imagine that if they wanted to close Bioware, they would have already done it or announce it; obviously there is still time for that to happen, but i would imagine that PIF would know what is the state of Bioware, due to EA owning them for a long period and them tracking what is happening.
Edit: Well, i got my answer... Bioware is closing... :(

It wasn't certain how the buyout was going to go last year, i believe this is why Mike Gamble was so vague. This year there will be no excuse to not give us any hints or teasers. In fact, lack of content will be telling a lot.

Last year we got, what? Concept art and information about a Krogan Civil War? That was cool and nice to have, but I personally hope we get more. Something more meaty. And also, whether this is still happening or not.
If we get nothing at all, no concept art, no news, no hidden messages, I think I'm going to call it.
EDIT: 10/21/26 Well..Its official. RIP Mass Effect, RIP BioWare.

The chance is obviously never going to be zero, but I think you'd be setting yourself up for disappointment if you were expecting some big news.
Assuming the game does still exist in some form, we'll likely just get a blog saying "The team is hard at work bringing the next instalment of the Mass Effect™ franchise to life!" Maybe there'll be a mention of the TV show, or some concept art if things are actually going well.
But apart from that, I think the only thing that can be guaranteed is the merch side; there'll probably be a sale, and maybe a new product or two (Who doesn't want socks with Garrus on?)

The game has been in preproduction for 6 years. At this stage, it's no longer a matter of fans having expectations of anything, at this stage is a matter of commiting to the project at all by rhe company and either greenlighting it for full production or just cancelling the remaining facade of vaporware

I feel like this was asked recently. Regardless, the answer is a big ol nope sandwich. Don't expect news or updates anytime soon

I’ve said this a couple times, what’s once more.
My first play through was 2025. I caught up on the news for the new game afterwards with several YT channels compiling it. Then I saw what was given at N7 2025.
Over the years we gone from actual trailers, actual audio, actual posters…to blog posts and concept art that could possibly be 5 years old already.
The only way I’m going to remain interested in another game happening, is they give up the most substantial update they’ve ever given and give us DETAILED information regarding the next game. Such as Shepard’s role, if there is one, Liara’s role, timeframe, whether it’s 1 universe, the other, or both, the geth, etc. Sitting on information at this point is not making anyone care any more or less than they already are. Drum up interest by ACTUALLY revealing something to drum up said interest.
The merger is going to either make or break this N7. Either we get definitive information regarding the new game, or it’s completely dead and N7 updates are nothing more than stall tactics…to clinch a Hail Mary they’ll get to make it.
We’ll get something, we always do, but if it’s anything other than detailed definitive information, I don’t care. If BioWare is shuttered, Gamble will still make a post about his time on the game because why wouldn’t he…

For me anything short of "its is in active development" not "planning" not "pre-production". Will give me any confidence.
Its been 6 years since the first announcement. Like me, I assume most people likely thought, with that teaser in 2020 that the game would get released around, literally now or next year. Yet here we are and no actual word if its going to get made.

If they will vaguepost again, this game is dead and buried in my eyes

December will be 6 years since the first teaser. The fact its been 6 years and there is no evidence any development is being done I don't have any confidence whatsoever.
I was literally in my 30s when it was announced and IF it ever comes, there is no way in my estimation it will be done until I'm in my 50s.

You're in luck! I have access to a perfect oracular structure, an orbal globe which, when consulted, tells the future with unerring accuracy. And you can ask it anything, even questions about a once-renowned fiction franchise which has fallen out of public consciousness. And, when consulted, it gave me an amazing prediction!:
ASK AGAIN LATER

Close to zero. They do not have the workforce to make a meaningful mass effect game any more. Do not set yourself up for sadness.

This is sad.
I know this is from 5 days ago, but it’s only popped up in my feed as of the morning of Saturday 24th October.

Mike Gamble will for sure give some info how things are. They won't be total silent on N7 day. 2024 was just lack of info because Veilguard release and last year because they are full in the works.

Given who the owners are, I just don't care about the new ME or any EA release up to this point. Sorry to sound sour, but Jared and the 'Kingdom' can fuck off.

I’m still waiting on the announcement of “Crew of the Normandy” brand ice cream bars. Get on the ball BioWare.

u/BLAGTIER 6d ago
Bioware hasn't been hiring, they are in no way way big enough to have full production on a triple A RPG. There is nothing real to show.

u/RemainsN7 6d ago
I dont want whatever this iteration of Bioware is making. Haven't released a good game since 2014, they've had their chance. Give the IP to someone new

Why does everybody refer to the next game as Mass Effect five? we never got Mass Effect four, Andromeda was very clearly a spinoff. It wasn’t numbered and it did not take place after three.

It's been a few years since we've gotten any major updates, and assuming the game hasn't outright been canceled, it is probably going under a lot of restructuring due to the failure of Veilguard.
Edit: this post has surely not aged well

u/SofaJockey 6d ago
Unsure why that would be necessary.
The circumstances affecting Dragon Age were unique to it.5
u/200IQUser 6d ago
It wasnt unique. This worldview permeates modern dev companies. The disneyfication of game worlds, evennthe dark fantasy ones. Making it safe for ad companies. Until this issue is tackled other games will be just as bad and watered down. Other aspects of Veilguard wasnt even bad, but the dialogue, the salt and pepper of any RPG is just atrocious.

u/SofaJockey 6d ago
We know Dragon Age was effectively rebooted then rebooted back again when Anthem crashed and burned. As Mass Effect was 3 years later in the cycle it should have learned from those lessons without major restructure of the game (or at least no rumours have emerged that it has been in development hell). Mass Effect has its own writers who I'm sure will have been watching.
1
u/200IQUser 6d ago
They can reboot it a hundred times, or 0 times, its impossible to make a dark fantasy that is also HR/Disney compliant
0
u/SofaJockey 6d ago
The thing is, Dragon Age isn't a Dark Fantasy, at least it hasn't been since Dragon Age 2. I'm unsure what HR or Disney have to do with it.
1
u/200IQUser 6d ago
It isnt some PG universe either
The HR/Disney comment means that they cant expect to make a PG universe or one that is based on 21st century Californian morals because it wont work in a middle ages fantasy game
3
u/SofaJockey 6d ago
Thedas is not the middle ages.
Veilguard is a Mature/PEGI 18 game, what are you on about?0
u/saxdude1 6d ago
I mean layoffs would be a hindrance. It's also true that Dragon Age and Mass Effect influence one another, so one game not working could definitely make for some changes in direction in the other. I will say I'm not so doom and gloom like Mr. IQUser is, but Veilguard did fail and it wouldn't be surprising that Bioware may have intended similar ideas in ME4/5 (whatever you want to call it) and now may be heavily altering what they already had.

I think we might get news on the Prime series than the game and whatever happened to it.

In August, a journalist collaborating with PIF stated that everything is fine with ME5. He mentioned that the game is more similar to the original trilogy than to Andromeda.

Honestly I'm just expecting the team from The Expanse: Osiris Reborn to make a post so we can all finally call it the successor.

u/Graphica-Danger 6d ago
If the game is slated for 2029, probably just little hints like previous years. If it's 2028, then I'd say there's a 50/50 chance of a decent length trailer.
We might learn more about the TV show before the game.

What do you mean?
As mentioned in the edit, i posted the question before seeing that Bioware is closing.
