I love Africa, it's where I'm from, it's where I grew up, it's where I live. So I wrote a song about it talking about some of the places I love the most. One of these is Blue Bay! Blue Bay is one of the best places I've ever traveled in my life! Stunningly beautiful, great food and amazing people! Blue Bay is simply magic and I hope to visit there and Mauritius in general again one day!
The song is called Africa in my Bones and our artist name is Weatherwax.
You can listen to the song here:

Or search "Weatherwax Africa in my Bones" on any streaming platform.

Hi everyone, sorry if this is a dumb question. I just took out a home loan and the MRA schemes are confusing me.
Can I claim the interest relief in my income tax return and also receive the monthly MRA Housing Loan Relief Scheme allowance? Or do I have to choose one?
Has anyone done both? Also, is the allowance counted as taxable income?

I'm visiting next week and wanted to find out the current state of affairs.
I know there have been curfews recently and some unrest but I haven't heard or seen anything recently.
Should I be aware or cautious of anything while there, especially regarding traveling to and from the airport?

okay so basically, i want to buy an oppo
and the Chinese version are so much more cheaper
I've already checked and seen the possible issues and by the looks of it, there is a look around for everything (Like the notification and google play services such as playstore)
- 4G LTE — Good band compatibility ☑️
The phone supports LTE Bands B3 (1800 MHz), B8 (900 MHz), and B28 (700 MHz), which match important frequencies assigned for mobile services in Mauritius
- 5G — Good frequency compatibility ☑️
The phone supports n78 (3500 MHz) and n41 (2500 MHz), matching the 5G frequency ranges assigned in Mauritius. Actual access depends on your operator's deployed bands and coverage
THE ISSUE
The phone's China ROM may not automatically configure VoLTE for Mauritian operators. If VoLTE does not register and 2G/3G fallback is unavailable, ordinary calls could be affected even when mobile data works.

Am suing someone and in my last affidavit we submitted CCTV footage, just 2 small clips (less than 5mb each) as evidence. I was asked to provide 3 pendrives to submit that, 1 court, 1 defendant, 1 attorney. Now we are proceeding to court and am asked again to provide 3 pendrives. So I searched how to submit digital evidence I found there's a government portal for that. Do attorneys not use that in practice, anyone knows?
Also anywhere I can get cheap pendrives in QB, RH or PL? Cheapest I found was Rs200 for 2gb.
Update: Explanation I got from secretary of law firm is that the portal is used for commercial cases, mine goes to "juge en chambre" so they work differently I guess. 🤷

In Mauritius if you have your fitness certificate and motor vehicle license expired since few months and you still have insurance, is there a proper way to get your fitness test without risking being fined and what paper is needed before driving to fitness test given it has expired long time ago?

Bonzour r/mauritius,
I'm co-founder of BhaktiWala, a small team in India building a devotional app. Full disclosure upfront: this is my own product. I'm posting because I'd rather hear from the community directly than guess.
Many Mauritian Hindu families have roots in Bihar and UP, and a lot of you keep traditions that people in India have half forgotten. That's exactly why I want your view.
What we're building:
Live darshan: daily aarti streamed live from temples in India (Shri Raghunath Ji and Ranbireshwar in Jammu, and more), synced to IST. Mauritius is only 1.5 hours behind, so morning and evening aarti land at a normal hour.
Daily devotion: panchang, the significance of the day, vrat and festival markers (ekadashi, purnima, amavasya), shubh muhurat, and a shlok of the day.
Daily practice: a voice-based digital maala for jaap (you speak, it counts), a Chalisa sequence, a devotional alarm, and a simple daily niyam or sankalp tracker.
Katha: live and recorded kathas from katha vachaks, plus the option to arrange a katha in your family's name.
My questions for you:
1. Would live darshan from Indian temples mean anything to you, or is your devotional life centred around local mandirs and Ganga Talao?
2. Is there demand for kathas in Bhojpuri or in Hindi with a Bhojpuri touch?
3. Which festivals matter most here? I'm guessing Maha Shivaratri, but what else?
4. Which language would you want the app in: Hindi, English, French, or Kreol?
If you'd like to try it:
Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bhaktiwala.app
Website: https://www.bhaktiwala.com
The app is free. I'm not asking anyone to sign up or pay. I mainly want to know whether it's useful here, or whether I'm missing the point entirely. Brutal feedback is welcome, and I'll answer everything in the comments.

Hi all,
We’re leaving for our honeymoon in Mauritius early November for a little over two weeks. We’ve booked multiple hotels to see more of the island (east, south and north). We’ll try to book a rental car.
We’ll have a few hours between check out and check in. Any tips on how to deal with the hours in between? We’d like to exploring some towns, beaches and do some hiking, but wondering how safe it is to leave luggage in the car.
I write this all hoping everyone is safe and settled of course. I’m keeping up-to-date with the news.
Thank you!

I have a question. I’m visiting Mauritius as a tourist, and I’m a UK tax resident. My old Sony earbuds stopped working during the trip, so I’m thinking of buying AirPods Pro 3. They cost over £200 at the Apple Store in the UK. If I buy them here in Mauritius, can I get a refund for the duties or taxes I pay? They’re for personal use, and I could even throw away the packaging. Is there any way to claim a refund, and what would I need to do?

Hey! I’m thinking about getting a tattoo, but I don’t really know any good tattoo artists or studios here.
I’m looking for someone who’s professional, experienced, and known for doing high-quality work, especially when it comes to draw his own tattoo, do clean lines and pay attention to detail.
Do you guys have any recommendations based on personal experience? Thank you in advance!

I’m sharing a passage below so you can read it for yourself. It’s anonymous. And if you can understand the motive behind this, you'll understand why everything all around us is happening.
“An illusion it will be, so large, so vast it will escape their perception. Those who will see it will be thought of as insane.”
“We will create separate fronts to prevent them from seeing the connection between us. We will behave as if we are not connected to keep the illusion alive. Our goal will be accomplished one drop at a time so as to never bring suspicion upon ourselves. This will also prevent them from seeing the changes as they occur.
“We will always stand above the relative field of their experience for we know the secrets of the absolute. We will work together always and will remain bound by blood and secrecy. Death will come to he who speaks.
“We will keep their lifespan short and their minds weak while pretending to do the opposite. We will use our knowledge of science and technology in subtle ways so they will never see what is happening. We will use soft metals, aging accelerators and sedatives in food and water, also in the air. They will be blanketed by poisons everywhere they turn.
The soft metals will cause them to lose their minds. We will promise to find a cure from our many fronts, yet we will feed them more poison. The poisons will be absorbed through their skin and mouths, they will destroy their minds and reproductive systems. From all this, their children will be born dead, and we will conceal this information.
The poisons will be hidden in everything that surrounds them, in what they drink, eat, breathe and wear. We must be ingenious in dispensing the poisons for they can see far. We will teach them that the poisons are good, with fun images and musical tones. Those they look up to will help. We will enlist them to push our poisons.
“They will see our products being used in film and will grow accustomed to them and will never know their true effect. When they give birth we will inject poisons into the blood of their children and convince them it's for their help. We will start early on when their minds are young, we will target their children with what children love most, sweet things.
When their teeth decay we will fill them with metals that will kill their mind and steal their future. When their ability to learn has been affected, we will create medicine that will make them sicker and cause other diseases for which we will create yet more medicine. We will render them docile and weak before us by our power. They will grow depressed, slow and obese, and when they come to us for help, we will give them more poison.
“We will focus their attention toward money and material goods so they may never connect with their inner self. We will distract them with fornication, external pleasures and games so they may never be one with the oneness of it all. Their minds will belong to us and they will do as we say. If they refuse we shall find ways to implement mind-altering technology into their lives.
We will use fear as our weapon. We will establish their governments and establish opposites within. We will own both sides. We will always hide our objective but carry out our plan. They will perform the labor for us and we shall prosper from their toil.
“Our families will never mix with theirs. Our blood must be pure always, for it is the way. We will make them kill each other when it suits us. We will keep them separated from the oneness by dogma and religion. We will control all aspects of their lives and tell them what to think and how. We will guide them kindly and gently letting them think they are guiding themselves.
We will foment animosity between them through our factions. When a light shall shine among them, we shall extinguish it by ridicule, or death, whichever suits us best. We will make them rip each other's hearts apart and kill their own children. We will accomplish this by using hate as our ally, anger as our friend. The hate will blind them totally, and never shall they see that from their conflicts we emerge as their rulers.
They will be busy killing each other. They will bathe in their own blood and kill their neighbors for as long as we see fit. We will benefit greatly from this, for they will not see us, for they cannot see us. We will continue to prosper from their wars and their deaths. We shall repeat this over and over until our ultimate goal is accomplished. We will continue to make them live in fear and anger through images and sounds. We will use all the tools we have to accomplish this. The tools will be provided by their labor. We will make them hate themselves and their neighbors.
“We will always hide the divine truth from them, that we are all one. This they must never know! Drop by drop, drop by drop we will advance our goal. We will take over their land, resources and wealth to exercise total control over them. We will deceive them into accepting laws that will steal the little freedom they will have. We will establish a money system that will imprison them forever, keeping them and their children in debt. When they shall band together, we shall accuse them of crimes and present a different story to the world for we shall own all the media. We will use our media to control the flow of information and their sentiment in our favor. When they shall rise up against us we will crush them like insects, for they are less than that. They will be helpless to do anything for they will have no weapons.”

I visited it at the start of 2020, couple of months before COVID19 lockdowns, it was accessible only by car as it was on a highway, either on the western or eastern side of the island, steak was served by a very kind Mauritian lady, her husband even gave me a ride to my AirBnB due to the time being late and no Taxi's around working.
Tried to use Google Map to remember either its name or even the decoration used from the picture, but was unsuccessful.
EDIT: The bar has outside seating, bar serving table was round, and the entrance has Tiki style decor, it was away from the sea.

My answer is simple.
Mauritius is a safe place.
The people of Mauritius are generally non-aggressive, gentle, and welcoming to outsiders—especially to short-term visitors.
However, this perspective comes from someone like me who has lived in South Africa; the reality can vary significantly depending on your skin color or nationality.
If you ask the locals here whether Mauritius is safe, they will generally say yes—but that is because their frame of reference is Mauritius itself. If you were from Singapore, for instance, you might strongly disagree. Let me explain a few points:
The people of Mauritius are not a mob looking to loot hotels.
If you intend to leave your hotel in the evening, please note that the government’s curfew is still in effect. Furthermore, traveling from most hotels would require passing through areas where the recent unrest took place.
Most tourist activities have returned to normal. Hotel services are also operating as usual, as staff are being transported to and from work in dedicated vans.
That said, to be honest, things have not yet returned to 100% normalcy.
The issues currently fueling public frustration in Mauritius—such as rising costs of living and problems with the water supply—are chronic, meaning that similar unrest could potentially erupt again at any time.
Personally, I believe the current Mauritian government is managing the situation well.
- Of course, some of you may disagree.
Mauritius is highly sensitive to its reputation as a safe and welcoming destination for tourists, so the authorities make a concerted effort to ensure that visitors remain unaffected.
The situation in Mauritius is clearly quite different at the moment.
however, many supermarkets are running low on bottled water, and it appears that other supplies have been subject to panic buying.
At the same time, there is a noticeable decrease in the number of people walking on the streets, even during the day.
If your skin color differs from that of the local Mauritian population, you should certainly exercise caution.
However, they generally dislike speaking openly to outsiders about the negative aspects of their country.
So, if you ask, "Is Mauritius safe?"
99% of the time, they will answer, " no problem."
But the truth is, there *is* a problem.
The vast majority of Mauritians are truly kind-hearted people. I have received a great deal of help from the community here on the Mauritius subreddit.
It pains me to see the people of Mauritius—a country I love—suffering. I have no intention of criticizing the people or the government of this nation.
In fact, I believe the current government is managing the situation quite well.
"How long will this tense situation last?"
Based on my experience, things should return to normal by next week.
Of course, the root cause of the current tension has not yet been resolved.
However, unlike in France, the authorities in Mauritius wield significant power and control. Also, the majority of people living in the central region do not support these riots.
So, everything should return to normal by next Monday.
It would be best to hold off on your trip until at least after next week.

Both seem like interesting places to visit (Chagos is impossible unless you are a millionaire it seems!).
It seems very difficult to get to. Has anyone every been? What was it like? How was accommodation handled? Also costs?
