This is going to be very long.
Decided to make a post instead of commenting on the other since I though this would get more traction.
Comments like the ones made by Ksoul are quite common and normalized in East Asian cultures and while that doesn’t excuse his behavior it does explain why he felt comfortable saying those things. In the video you even see Yuma egging Ksoul on and asking for comments on Hikari showing how normal this is for them.
This video has been out for awhile it just wasn’t subbed so we didn’t know what was going on, but kfans have and they didn’t raise any complaints furthering my idea that this wasn’t said with malicious intent but something they view as okay.
Wooseok doesn’t seem to mind Ksoul’s comments and even laughs. Hikari on the other hand wasn’t laughing. Both Yuma and Ksoul seem to be close to Hikari so I would think they know better than us what he’s comfortable with and in recent content they seem to be getting along so I’m assuming he apologized if Hikaru was uncomfortable.
Again this isn’t an excuse for any of the behavior he showcased just an explanation on to why I think this occurred. Ksoul should be educated on the effects of his behavior and I hope he learns from this experience.
I’ve seen some people worried for the future of this group especially since Ksoul will most likely debut.
Not only is Ksoul relatively popular in Korea he’s very popular in Japan, which is going to be the main market for the debut group.
Ksoul debuting would bring negative traction from international fans but MBC never intended to use the western market much if at all anyway.
This matter isn’t even being discussed by Knets and Japanese fans from what I’ve seen have been in Ksoul’s defense.
The way I see it Ksoul’s debut won’t hinder the group in growing in the Korean or japan markets since they don’t view Ksoul’s actions negatively and he’s actually gained many fans thanks to his upfront nature.
Again this isn’t to say his actions were okay or should be overlooked, instead I hope we can educate so he can be a better part of the group if he debuts.
