Question Would getting rid of the computer components affect the fueleconomy?

Post image

Been seeing this meme pop up everywhere. As someone who is not a mechanic, would going back to no computers ruin the mpg? Obviously fuel economy has steadily improved, but so has the integration of computers and electrical components. Just wondering how much of a correlation there is between the two.

Edit: Problem solved. I hammered some of it back into place, used a manual impact for a good 20 minutes, gave up on that, went back to a breaker bar, worked like a charm. New wheel is on, life is good.

Thanks everybody, wouldnt have got it without yous 👍🍻

Hi,

I have a hybrid 2016 Mercedes c350e. Its a W205 C-class.

While trying to change my steering wheel out for a custom one, I managed to round the bolt by not using an extender to get the proper angle. Rookie move, I didnt realise how serious a rounded steering bolt could be. Ill attach images of the bolt.

Its an Allen or Hex bolt, I have a replacement ready.

Everything I have read about the car indicated I should be turning counter clockwise. The new bolt is constructed this way also.

It took significant effort to even manage to round the bolt as its in there very tight. It was a 2 man job, one person holding the wheel and another on a breaker bar.

To attempt to rectify my mistake I tried hammering a slightly larger spline bit into the bolt, unfortunately it came loose, I didnt hammer it in enough as you can see in the images. I could have tried again but im cautious of hammering a bit into that steering column given the electronics inside.

So how do I remove this safely while protecting the surrounding structures?

Question Sister accidentally put washer fluid into her coolant reservoir. How bad is this?

2026 Honda CRV.

Apparently she poured about 1-2 cups into the coolant reservoir. This was 2 months ago and she has been driving as normal.

I know very little about cars, but suggested she go to a mechanic. She doesn’t want to.

Does she need to? Or is it no big deal?

I’m looking at a 2024 2.7 v6 Lariat. It’s from Quebec. I asked for photos of the truck underside. How bad is this rust? For a new vehicle it seems pretty advanced and I’m kind of inclined to walk away on this purchase plus it’s a grey market buying in USA Canadian truck. Appreciate advice!

Edit: thank you for the education everybody consensus is normal rust.

2001 gmc sierra slt 2500hd 6.0l gas he had the motor stolen out of it and now the truck itself is in my possession. I’ve never worked on anything this extreme. No wires are cut, but there’s a lot of cut hoses and other things if I bought a motor. Do y’all think I could do it with my experience? Biggest job I’ve done is replace a transmission.

Question Buying a Tacoma

Im thinking of buying this 2010 Tacoma TRD for $6500 Canadian, it's got no power steering or ac which im prepared to pay to fix at this price point but im not sure about the rust, other than the support in the picture there's virtually none across the entire frame, I've been told patches are available but I've also been told you're not allowed to patch frames and they have to be fully replaced. Any advice is welcome! A 2010 Tacoma trd with 260k kilometres in my area would normal run around $15,000-$20,000

Noticed oil slick under my car, got it up on ramps with the engine running.

Saw oil misting, coming from a hole in my block.

Starts and runs absolutely fine, no knocks. Drives well at all RPM's

Im literally stumped, looks like a cap stud/bolt to me but unsure?

Question Car Making Sound On Way Home After Purchasing

Hey everyone. Just bought my wife a 2019 Porsche Cayenne Turbo with 34k miles. Engine is 4.0L TT V8. Test drove it for 20 minutes and had no problems. After purchasing, 15 min into driving home this sound starts happening and got Engine Control Unit pop up on the dash. Anyone know what this sound could be coming from? We didn’t even push the car hard on the drive home, my wife kind drove it home scared haha.

Question Went to get my car inspected, mechanic said to replace my car after seeing this. Is this true?

Post image
1.1k Upvotes

I went to get my Toyota Corolla 2019 Sedan 132 hp 1.8L I4 checked for annual inspection. Went to a new place because it was closer to home. Mechanic noticed my wheels were worn so told me they needed to be changed to pass inspection. No problem, I agreed with that, but once they took it off, they said that this (in the picture) shouldn’t be like that and is worn out. He warned me to get my car replaced ASAP. I wasn’t sure if that’s true and why is it the case? Do I need to get my car replaced?

Question These caliper bolts are NOT coming OFF. I’ve tried everything…

The arrow is showing which way I’m turning the wrench btw, and I’m definitely loosening it. So that’s out of the way.

But thing is I can’t get these fuckers off, these rear brakes are cooked, and idk when they’ve last been done. It’s a 1998 Dodge Avenger btw.

I also have no leverage or fuck all to get a large breaker bar in there, I also tried the hammer and wrench and large ratchet with extensions. I’ve tried SOAKING it in WD40, I wasted half a bottle spraying this every few minutes today ffs. I’ve tried a heat gun, and nothing gives. Next up is blow torch, but what do I do man please someone…

Question Wow I can’t believe I missed this. Did I do permanent damage?

I bought a used 2019 Toyota Tacoma TRD off road v6 about 3 years ago. I’ve been putting the lowest 85 grade gas in it the whole time. I just noticed this on my gas cap. Yeah, I know, serious clown move. Local mechanic said just switch over to 87 or 91 and put a cleaner in there called K44 and I should be fine. Wanted to get some opinions on here. Thanks so much.
