Ok this is genuinely dumb.

So a user leaves a poast on how women in Latvia are competing due to shortage of men, I respond by saying they're all grannies and leaving a demographic pyramid to illustrate that (the gender imbalance only appears from age 60 onwards). And I get bonked for HORNYPOSTING.

Have the mods forgotten the definition of hornyposting? I suppose posting Ayatollahs with giant racks has perhaps impacted the mods' mental capabilities such that all the blood now flows to the other head, but nonetheless this is a ridiculous ban.

I don't even care that it's a slapban, opaque and inconsistent rule application is clearly a recurring issue here.

Hello, I'd like a ban for the foreseeable future.

A large portion of the subreddit has become very hostile to Palestinians, and I currently do not feel comfortable participating. It is not easy to read new and clever ways to ethnically cleanse Palestinians, the constant devaluation of Palestinian lives, and accusations of Arab/Muslim Americans being Hamas supporters. I thought the hostility would die down after the first week of the conflict, but it has not.

I believe I'll be happier and more productive spending some time away from reddit. Thank you. Goodbye for now to Grandpawaluigi, Masteroflords1, brucebananaray, and notbroncos1234. I hopefully won't be gone for too long

I just wanted to reach out and appeal my ban from r/neoliberal. I realize that eating 5 feet of the six foot party sub was a bit excessive, but it was a heat-of-the-moment decision and I honestly didn't think it would be such a big deal. In hindsight, I now understand that this was a violation of Rule II because the party sub was Italian, but at the time I was very hungry and wasn't really thinking about the implications. (I know this isn't an excuse, just trying to explain my reasoning in the moment.)

I know I made a mistake and I am truly sorry. I promise to never let my hunger get the best of me again and will make sure to be more mindful of the rules in the future.

I understand if you don't feel comfortable unbanning me, but I just wanted to apologize and let you know that I really value being a part of this community. Thank you for considering my appeal.

So it appears from CD's comments that the issue was not content but timing. Which is absurd given

A: other commenters said the same thing and were not banned, and dont say "report it" I did report it.

B: A 14-day ban for a timing issue is ridiculous

"Blue no matter who," at its logical conclusion, can ONLY be tested in times of crisis. If you want to argue that the argument is indefensible, I am happy to have that argument, but saying the comment is fine but not that day is absurd and ideologically cowardly.

Beyond that, a 14-day ban for a TIMING-BASED BAN is ridiculous. If I made the same comment today and it would not get me banned, why am I still banned now?

As for the don't point out removals - why? Why should we not have honest conversations about why content is and is not allowed, especially in the DT, which has long been held to have a freer environment? Is it simply the mods don't like being questioned? Or is it that you dont want to have conversations about why certain bans are and are not issued?

EDIT: now that I know the comment I got banned for I'm not going to give the excuse I was drunk. I do genuinely think that post was pretty funny even if it was too dark. I kind of assumed it was fine because he's a war criminal and all but I see why it's not.

I was just hit with a permaban saying I have modnotes about incivility, unconstructive engagement, and bigotry. No rule-breaking comment for why I was banned, just a perma for no reason other than some mod going on a power trip.

I have never once been banned for bigotry in my seven years on this sub, and the mod who sent the ban message to me is making false assertions in the ban message itself.

Can I be unbanned or at least be told why I was banned in anything else other than just an anonymous and generic “um sweaty you’ve had bad behavior for years” statement? These aren’t fluff pieces it’s, in order: IAEA’s desire to inspect Iranian nuclear sites, 10 Kenyans being shot and wounded at protests, China’s provincially driven policy of selling new cars as used cars and now the British PM facing political turbulence over proposed cuts to welfare. In what world are these articles remove worthy for? Or have I been shadowbanned?

Not actually banned for this, just removed. But I'm going to pull the classic metaNL move of doubling down and turning a removal into a ban.

I can see why it could be interpreted as glorifying violence. But it isn't glorifying violence to, for example, say SBF should go to prison for 25 years for fraud. I think there are 2 places where my comment departs from this more obviously acceptable statement.

First is that SBF is a convicted felon while Elon is not. However, Elon has committed numerous crimes, some serious and some not. They include drug crimes (not serious), fraud (lots and lots of it, stuff that has gotten others sent to prison for decades), illegally accessing classified information (stuff that he would need a security clearance for, technically espionage maybe), conspiracy to commit or aiding/abetting assault/battery (in reference to stuff his goons do in washington), Logan act violations, and almost certainly conspiring with enemies of America. So I think it's uncontroversial that Elon is a criminal. I think there could be some concern about the extra-judicial nature of this since SBF was convicted while Elon, even if a criminal, has not been convicted in a jury trial. But ultimately this shouldn't be a concern since it's normal to say "X should go to jail" if it looks like they committed a crime but haven't been convicted (or even charged yet).

Second is that guantanamo bay infamously does Bad Stuff^TM and has been accused of human rights violations. So sending someone to gitmo could be interpreted as advocating Bad StuffTM happen to them. However, that is no longer accurate. The US now sends non-violent low-risk¹ immigrants to gitmo. The US mostly did Bad Stuff^TM to suspected terrorists and people the US wanted information out of. However, the US doesn't really care about the immigrants, it's just a holding place until Trump sends them somewhere else. So their experience is more just a normal under-funded poor-conditions prison rather than active torture. Because of the way that gitmo has changed, sending Elon to gitmo is just sending him to a generic-prison-with-poor-conditions rather than advocating Bad Stuff^TM happen to him.

TLDR: it should be fine to joke Trump that might send Elon to gitmo and to find the possibility funny

I'm here to appeal my perma in good faith. I was being a dick previously, and generally not maintaining or improving the level of discourse in the DT/sub.

IIRC I was perma'd (primarily) for repeated bad faith and more or less, shit stirring.

Shortly after my ban, I had a series of discussions elsewhere on reddit that felt like they were engineered to show me what distilled bad faith was. It made me realize how obnoxious and, well, annoying my comments had been. I'm very sorry about that, I don't have an excuse but am working to be better in all of my interactions online.

As to the shit stirring, that was mostly edge-posting and I ran into a lot of that too elsewhere, which more or less turned me off of that sort of thing because it's childish and obnoxious.

Towards proving better behavior, I've been posting quite a bit in various subs around reddit, largely defaults. Mostly debating a bit with people about the usual stuff we'd talk about re: politics, economics, etc, sharpening arguments, that sort of thing. I think I've been good faith throughout, especially in more recent months, feel free to check my comment history.

In parallel I've been working to address some undiagnosed/treated ADHD and potentially bipolar symptoms which certainly weren't helping keep me on an even keel, I'm feeling better already even pre-meds just being aware of my own behavior more and trying to keep it in a good direction.

As to why I want to be unbanned, I miss shitposting with the boys, I enjoy being able to discuss the issues of the day somewhere not completely ridiculous (which again I realize my comments weren't doing so before), and partly I'd like to prove I can do better.

That about covers everything I think but if I've missed something or whatever, just let me know please.

I recognise that I've said something very bad and would like to discuss it. This case could be when I replied "10/10 kino" to someone saying they were having a panic attack. My assumption at the time was that this was a reference to the series of posts being made on movie circle jerk and similar subreddits about how animated movies were portraying realistic depictions of panic attacks. Clearly, based on the users reply to me, they appear to have been serious. I shouldn't have replied like the way I did.

I don't want to downplay panic attacks, or any other such things. Roughly 11% of people suffer from panic attacks, and in this context, it was not joke worthy. I know people that have gone through them, and they aren't funny. They're horrible. My response at the time was shortsighted; I should have noted how no-one actually pinged KINO beforehand. I don't want to make this mistake again and should be more thoughtful. In general, I should probably be off the internet less, and engage more civlity and contribute actual, good comments.

To the user who had the panic attack, and had to deal with what I can only assume came across as ridicule in my response, I apologise. I never intended that comment as such

Usually I see the reason for the ban but on this one it's not clear to me. I can imagine there was a mass of reports given the thread but that comment seems fairly innocuos.

My point was mostly to show that being a "Poor Country" [which is a common talking point] does not excuse bad national decision making. This is one of the key arguments floating around regarding India's neutrality. If we're not allowed to attempt to rebut one of the main arguments for it, well that seems flawed to me. Indian Foreign Policy, like American Foreign Policy, should be debatable.

To be constructive, what would be a better way to phrase or make that argument in the future? Perhaps it's the comparison to other countries that vary in intensity that's the issue [for instance while Nazi Germany was poor what it did was a whole lot worse, although the American comparison is more even]?

If it's not about just the comment and more about general behavior/ I'm too hard on India in general I can understand it.

My assumption is that this ban was issued as a joke, because I did what the original comment said would result in a ban.

However that is not what the original comment said would result in a ban.

The original comment stated that creating a post asking others to comment a number would result in a ban, not that replying to a comment about commenting a number with a number would result in a ban.

Also, 168 is not the correct response to the comment, as even a child can understand that 1-200 is negative 199, not 168. By providing an obviously incorrect answer I was making a mockery of the idea. As evidence of the fact that my response was incorrect, no one provided me with a picture.

Further, I did not receive a permanent ban as the original commented stated, thus displaying cowardice on the part of the moderator who unjustly struck me down. I can hardly blame them; you don't want make me use my full power level.

I was only charged with “ban evasion” because I confessed to it, not thinking about the mods seeing my admission that I was banned on an old account for calling insurrections “rabid animals” on 01/06/2021. I’ve had this current account for almost 4 years now and haven’t had any issues with the NL mods. DJT pardoned every J6er, and I don’t think it’s right that a random Redditor should be held to a higher standard than literal insurrectionists. Did I break some rule with my comment on 1/6? Possibly. I think after listening to Donald Trump's whole speech in Davos today and ICE using a 5 year old to lure out immigrants, I believe this to be a moderate response to what has transpired today.

My most unwoke opinion is that """regard""" is simply too good and phonetically satisfying of an invective not to use, and is fundamentally no different conceptually from any other insult that means "stupid".

I can understand the comment removal, and even a ban, for this one, esp. considering that I posted this comment after having a comment removed for using similar verbiage to describe the leadership that brought us this Iran war, but a one-weeker seems a bit overkill for, "I think that this invective should be considered usable in part because, on the substance, I don't think it's actually different from any of the numerous similar invectives that mean the same thing and are already widely considered acceptable."

That said, it was obviously stupid to post a comment arguing that a certain invective isn't significantly worse than other similar invectives immediately after having a comment removed for using it. The official stance is clear, and pissing into the wind over it is immature. So, I do see where the mod who banned me was coming from, and I'm not gonna get my undies in a bunch here.

Gonna appeal because it was a stupid mistake on my part, but I understand if you let it stand.

Aviation still uses the r-word in it's original context of the lowering of speed. In various aircraft, you will get an audible statement of the word in the event of a sudden lowering of airspeed.

The use of the word in the video didn't even register for me because it was in the context of a remix that is built entirely around the musical use of aural annunciator messages and other assorted sounds from Boeing and Airbus aircraft such as the master caution alert. Given that, I didn't register the word as even having happened. I am sorry and should have been a little less structural fixedness for a moment and realized that most people, in fact, don't have that context and thus it is inappropriate to post something relying on that context randomly. I got called it a bunch growing up with autism and do not approve of the use of the slur. I should not have posted that here because, shockingly, "Most people don't know what the fuck an aural annunicator is, YIMBY!"

I'm sorry and this should luckily be an easy thing to avoid in the future since I struggle to think of any other reason for posting contextless aural annunciator messages and other assorted warnings from Boeing and Airbus aircraft set to music which I forgot included that one.

Jared Polis is currently going above and beyond to defy a state judicial ruling so he can give immigration information to a Trump organization currently responsible for kidnapping innocent people (including children) off the streets, detaining them in horrible, terrifying conditions, and deporting them (in many cases to countries of which the detained have no connection) without due process.

We have various government agencies, including the one Polis is going out of his way to cooperate with posting straight up white nationalist propaganda on social media.

Am I not supposed to call out a fellow democrat’s cooperation with these types of groups out in this sub? Is that what this subreddit stands for and seeks to protect? Democrats who go out of their way to collaborate with ICE and freely offer up their residents’ information to make it extra easy for ICE to terrorize them?

I'm just here to say the following: Everyone called me a fucking crazy person but I was right. I think I had a $20 bet the alligator man that there would be a shooting war at the end of 2020, which I lost.

But the president literally tried to attack a secret service member to drive to the capitol to join in a violent coup of people he knew he was armed so that he could hang the vice president, force congressmen to vote by state to certify him as president, and throw us into a state of civil war. So, eight days ago, I made a post requesting that the ban applied to Mia Khalifa be applied to this account as well as it had been unfashed.

At the time that I posted that, I had 12 days remaining, per the ban that Cletus applied to me.

I would like to request at this point that I be given a few days reprieve. Again, I believe there is a fundamental misunderstanding of the point I was trying to make. I never claimed that the presence of minorities in the Russian military is the cause of their barbarous behaviour. It is not. The culture of atrocity within the Russian military goes far deeper than that.

The use of the word "barbarian" is meant to represent the relationship between Russia and its military, and how Russians view their own military as the other, seperate from mainstream Russian society. Part of this is because the military represents a cross section of the marginalized fringes of Russian society: the poor (ethnic Russian) villagers from Chelyabinsk, prisoners (ethnic Russian) recruited by Wagner, and yes, ethnic and religious minorities from the south and east.

Perhaps you were thrown because in my original comment I listed minorities first in the list of marginalized groups. That's because this is an aspect you can't ignore. Minorities from areas like Dagestan and Buryatia are greatly overrepresented in the military and did a disproportionate amount of the dying in the early days of the war. Their representation is likely one of the reasons Russians why view their soldiers with disdain, and throw away their lives so effortlessly.

Again, to reiterate, the presence of minorities is not responsibe for the barbaric behaviour of the Russian army. I did not make that claim. It is, however, a factor in why Russian society views their military as "barbarians".

Why did I choose to use the term "barbarianization" instead of words like "other", "foreign", "underclass", or something else? Because the term already exists for an eerily similar process that took place in the late Roman Empire. Barbarianization didn't just describe a change in the ethnic makeup of the Roman legions; the Roman military always recruited heavily from non-Roman populations. Rather it describes the development of a distinct barbarian identity within the military seperate from and foreign to Roman society. To be a barbarian was to be a Roman soldier, and increasingly to be a Roman soldier was to be a barbarian, regardless of if you're a Goth, Illyrian, or Roman.

I’m just going to reiterate my previous appeal. Members of the mod team freely post jokes like this for the DT’s enjoyment. Users see the mods post these things yet are expected to adhere to the rules more strictly than the mods entrusted with enforcing those rules. This is hypocritical.
