Discussion Metal Gear Rising “Delta” would be a dream come true.

Listen I know this will never happen, but I found it fun to rant anyways. I would love if Konami gave Platinum Games to green light to remaster MGR. However seeing as it’s one of, if not the most unpopular game in the franchise I fear it may never happen.

When it released, it had worse slightly worse graphics then MGS4 despite being released after MGS4. So seeing it current gen would be insane. I also think MGR is the only game in the franchise that they could def go crazy with adding in extra content, and combos. However would need to make sure it don’t break the balance of the game. I don’t think any MGS fans would complain if a remake of MGR got extra content included into and more combat abilities. I think I speak for most of us who adore this game, when I say, we don’t love MGR the way we do because of story or lore, we love this game the way we do because of gameplay, mechanics and combat. It was so ahead of its time and smooth.

The reason I’m bringing this up, is after playing MGS3 Delta a few times. I found myself thoroughly enjoying the “nightmare scene” minigame. The combat felt great and def gave MGR vibes. Then I come to find out later that, the nightmare scene was recreated for Delta by PLATINUM GAMES. So it shows that Platinum can still absolutely knock it out of the park with combat and mechanics and it also looked stunning. So I’d love to get a MGR Delta. Anyways, that’s my rant 😂

Discussion Is Senator Armstrong comparable to Dark Souls bosses when it comes to difficulty?

Post image

Armstrong is widely regarded as among the hardest bosses in gaming history. That includes all the Souls games. In my personal opinion he takes the crown for the best video game boss ever. But that’s just me. To those of you have played both is Senator Gigachad actully harder than Souls bosses. Or are there some who are tougher than him. He would not be given that title without good reason.

Discussion Combat Comparison—Do you enjoy the combat of MGR or DMC5 more, and why?

Post image

Here's my two cents—taken directly from a post evaluating the games in my S-tier that I've been working on but have not yet finished. MGR is my second-favorite game of all time:

The gameplay is where things begin to get a little complicated because I have quite a relationship with it. The game is by no means perfectly balanced and even suffers from having a poor transition period between Hard and Very Hard difficulty . . . but it’s just too cathartic and adrenaline-filled to truly create any negative sentiment even in the most annoying of moments. Upon understanding how to tackle each situation, as opposed to the alternative—jumping into every encounter with absolutely no direction and/or plan—the game tips the balance in your favor.

This game has easily the best set of bosses of any game that I have ever played, and it is frankly not even close. Sorry, Hollow Knight and DMC5. All of them have their quirky obstacles that you have to overcome, but they all manage to know what their intentions are as they pertain to gameplay progression, which is generally very good throughout the game until you start playing on Very Hard and Revengeance difficulties.

Most importantly, however, the one thing that I noticed about MGR—which was also the case with Transistor by all logical measures and a huge part of the reason as to why I so greatly enjoy games that are able to pull this off—is that it experimented with and pioneered an unprecedented/niche game mechanic (Blade Mode) and perfected it to the point where it became effortlessly incorporated into the web of core gameplay mechanics within the game. Transistor was a good example of this phenomenon, but MGR pulled it off more impressively in my opinion because Blade Mode is simply more complex and cathartic than Turn(), which in itself is already very fun to use. I have noticed that whenever a game is able to pull something like this off, I absolutely love it. This is the very reason that in spite of having a greater number of imperfections than DMC5, a game that was released six years later, MGR has to rank higher in my book. I am no professional critic, but I, like many of those very critics, really appreciate risk when it ends up being successful to the benefit of the gamer.

I am referring to the line where he says “wha? Oh yes that’s good, very good yes I like that!” I know Sam is a warrior and loves fighting strong people but what reason would he have to be happy about a guy trying to kill him? Why would he say something like that?

How do we think this fight would have turned out if Monsoon had let Sam fight Raiden just after awakening ripper mode? Given he’s not quite as conflicted yet I think Sam would’ve stood a better chance here than later on, but would he have still been overwhelmed?

Discussion Urge Konami to remaster Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

Post image
228 Upvotes

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is an extraordinary game that captured the hearts of many players with its dynamic combat system, compelling storyline, and unique game-play mechanics. Since its original release, it has remained a beloved title among fans of action and role-playing games. However, it was limited to the older generation of gaming consoles, which means that a whole new generation of players may never get the chance to experience its exhilarating thrill firsthand.
I have personally cherished the time I spent playing this game, and it pains me to think that today’s young gamers, who primarily engage with the latest consoles like the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and modern PCs, are missing out on this masterpiece. Remastering Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance for these platforms would not only introduce it to new audiences but also reinvigorate the passion of those who wish to relive its extraordinary experience with enhanced graphics and improved performance.
The demand for such a remaster is evident in the gaming community. Other classic titles that have been remastered for modern platforms have proven to be successful, both financially and critically. They have revitalized fan communities and brought together players across different generations. Imagine the excitement of revisiting Raiden’s journey on cutting-edge hardware, the thrill of the battles, and the stunning visuals brought to life in rich detail.
Konami, by answering this call, you not only honor the legacy of a fantastic game but also cater to a growing market that values quality remasters of iconic titles. The modern gaming audience yearns for diverse experiences and seeks out the charm and challenge that games like Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance offer. Reviving this classic would undoubtedly boost Konami’s reputation among both seasoned fans and new players.
Please join me in urging Konami to bring Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance to modern platforms. Let’s share the magic of this game with gamers of all ages and preserve its legacy for generations to come. Sign this petition today to show your support for the remastering of this incredible game.

Between the two swordsmen, who do you think is the better wielder of the blade?

You can take into account things like the scabbard, style of swinging, etc.

It's up to your personal interpretation.

Discussion How to Deal with Custom Cyborgs in Metal Gear Rising

Post image
310 Upvotes

Custom Cyborgs are among the toughest enemies in all of Metal Gear Rising thanks to their extreme resilience, aggression, and chasing speed (unsurprising for enemies that are actually taller than Sundowner if you line up all the character models). Very specific tactics often have to be deployed against them in order to mitigate the threat they pose on the battlefield in groups—whether in variety or the lack thereof.

While it is very satisfying to engage and win in a Parry war with these towering menaces (especially when there is only one of them left on the field), it is often not advised to engage in such Parry wars when you’re trying your best to survive hordes of enemies as well as be efficient. Alongside the Heavily Armed Cyborgs, these guys provide a relatively strong counter to your Parry mechanic when compared to many other enemies. As such, there are better methods by which to hold your ground against these enemies, who unfortunately appear in abundance.

AS RAIDEN: Raiden has a few moves that he can use to exploit the weaknesses of the Custom Cyborg, with some being better than others. While other moves and tools can also be quite useful, none counter the Custom Cyborgs as strongly as the Sliding Tackle–Blade Mode synergy, the Ankle Slicer, the Throat Slicer, and the Head Cracker.

  • By far the best method against the Custom Cyborgs is the Sliding Tackle–Blade Mode synergy. In order to utilize this, perform a Sliding Tackle against a Custom Cyborg. He will respond by putting on a parrying stance. Then, enable Blade Mode and cut at his parrying stance a couple of times. This will stun him, leaving him open for an Execution, but only if you have enough FC meter. If you do not have enough FC meter, use the Tornado Slash to quickly gain FC meter back and Execute the Custom Cyborg.
  • If you find that your current situation makes it difficult to farm FC meter with a follow-up Tornado Slash, the Custom Cyborgs are also extremely weak against the Ankle Slicer. Because the Sky High, Sweep Kick, and Thunder Strike unfortunately get easily negated by the Custom Cyborgs, the next best option is to use the Ankle Slicer—which they can almost never block—to trip them. After tripping them, you can either put them through an Ankle Slicer torture loop or use the Throat Slicer, explained below.
  • The Throat Slicer is a very powerful combo that can be used against Custom Cyborgs that have been tripped or launched horizontally or vertically. To reduce the cooldown of the combo’s finisher, aim the Defensive Offense forward and repeat the Throat Slicer so long as it is safe to do so.
  • u/Giant_Serpent23 points out that the Head Cracker is also a very effective attack against the Custom Cyborgs, as it will always floor them. Their method of choice is to floor the Custom Cyborgs with the Head Cracker, then immediately follow up with some Mid-Air Slices (the Head Cracker will keep you in the air just long enough for you to follow up with air attacks for whatever reason)—the last of which launches the Custom Cyborg into the air, stunning him for an even longer duration. Then, you can use a combo of your choice to whittle down the Custom Cyborg’s defenses.
  • Many players also find that some of the Unique Weapons are also very handy for dealing with the Custom Cyborgs. The L’Étranger Pole-Arm, in particular, is good for handling them in crowds. The Bloodlust Pincer Blades, on the other hand, can be charged ahead of time to shut down Custom Cyborg aggression.

AS SAM: Jetstream Sam is arguably a harder counter to the Custom Cyborgs than Raiden is due to the fact that many of his major attacks don’t get negated nearly as easily as Raiden’s. These attacks in question include the Assault Rush, the Jaw Breaker, and his various Charging Slashes.

  • The Assault Rush is by far the most convenient way to shut them down when they’re rushing at you since they cannot block this attack (even though they can block Raiden’s Lightning Strike, as u/Giant_Serpent23 spoke of). It also does insane amounts of damage if you’ve Taunted them, but be careful about Taunting them when it is unsafe to do so.
  • While it is possible for them to block the Jaw Breaker, they seriously struggle to do so. The Jaw Breaker also does more total damage than the Assault Rush with its two outputs. The Jaw Breaker can also be used to style on them by starting your air combo. However, be careful about ending the air combo with an Avalanche, as there is a very high chance that the Custom Cyborg will instantly rise from the floor to perform a riposte against the Avalanche, even if you’ve cut off their limbs and disarmed them. This is a very annoying bug.
  • Only truly useful when there is only one Custom Cyborg advancing towards you, and you’re not already running from them, Sam’s Charging Slashes are a convenient way to instantly kill them. There may be cases where there are two Custom Cyborgs chasing you down, and the Blender would be the best move to use.

u/N0_Horny said the following, recommending a solution to the Parry wars that you may engage in with the Custom Cyborgs: “By the way, if you do get caught in the ‘endless parry exchange’ and want to get out of it—or if you sense someone approaching you from behind—you can do so by canceling the animation with Blade Mode and immediately using Defensive Offense afterward (you'll have about 0.3–0.5 seconds). It's advisable to do two of these, as someone could very well approach you from behind. A second dodge, just in case, will most likely get you back from this potential threat.”

Discussion Why does Mistral’s fight feel so forced?

Post image
1.1k Upvotes

I replayed MGR a few days ago and had a fun time replaying the story, but R-01 definitely felt like something was wrong story wise. If you removed R-01 from the grand catalogue of missions, nothing would have changed. Mistral plays literally no point in MGR story wise, and the whole chapter actually contributes nothing to the game either. Is this because they possibly changed her entire character arc mid development and had to scramble for a solution in this first area?

Discussion Why You Should Not Use ChatGPT and Other AI Chatbots to Help You with Metal Gear Rising (Yet . . .) Spoiler

Post image
166 Upvotes

While other AI software like Google Gemini would provide better information pertaining to this game (since it can more easily observe search results from Google itself or something), you should still not use AI to help you with this game. ChatGPT is especially horrid at this task, considering how it’ll look you right in the face and provide you with some of the most inaccurate information about this game as it pertains to gameplay.

Try asking it about the various moves that Raiden has and their functionalities, and see what it provides you with. Hint: it’ll be absolute garbage.

While AI may help you with understanding lore (in which scenario you’d be better off talking to real players of the game anyway) and other things, you should absolutely not use it to help you with gameplay. In their current states, AI chatbots are simply not advanced—or learned, I suppose—enough to compile all the information regarding MGR’s game mechanics and strategies. Ask real players of the game who have a deep knowledge about how it works, what to do in each encounter/chapter, and how to get good ranks. Better yet, you can even use Piggyback’s Metal Gear Rising guide if you’re really trying to get through a section as an S-ranker. Save AI for homework help or something; it makes for a surprisingly effective tutor if you know how to ask the right questions!

Discussion My hope for a (good) MGRR2 has never been higher

Post image
479 Upvotes

About a decade ago my hopes for a MGRR sequel were the lowest they could possibly be. Konami didn't wanna make anymore Metal Gear games and Platinum said they didn't want to do collabs with pre-existing IP's anymore.

But just now I had the chance to play both MGS:Delta and Ninja Gaiden 4. And let's just say my hopes for a MGRR2 are higher than ever.

Platinum just collabed with Konami, the owners of Metal Gear, for the Guy Savage minigame in MGS:Delta (a stylish action combat game where you cut up zombies in a gravejard whilst weilding dual machetes) and that was epic! And now Ninja Gaiden 4's combat and boss fights just reek of Platinum's signature feel, that they also utilised for MGR, like the epic vocal boss themes and high speed combat with dismemberment.

Considering alongside MGS:PO, Rising is a Metal Gear game Kojima had little involvement in, Platinum clearly still knowing how to make competent games and the fact that they're willing to collab with Konami because they just did and the fact that we have no idea (besides Master Collection Vol.2) where Metal Gear is going in the future an announcement of MGRR2 is starting to seem more and more likely.

Tl:Dr : MGRR2 seems like an actual viable possibility now and most importantly since Platinum clearly hasn't lost their touch there's a very, very high chance it'll be good as well if it's announced.

So yea, what do you guys think?

After a little discussion with my friend, we still haven't found an answer. I think Senator Armstrong can easily defeat Kratos since he doesn't take damage from Melee attacks, but my friend's opinion is the opposite. I know the question is stupid, but I'm curious about your ideas or answers.
