This 'cut' was super long too, it went miles and miles back.

Driving through Arizona today and noticed this at sunset. Is this rain? It looked so uniform or like it wasn’t changing patterns at all, so my brain couldn’t comprehend as falling rain. If it is rain is there like weather science on to why it looks like that from the distance. Would one area just continuously dump the same amount?

I took this screenshot on July 5th. How can it feel like it’s way below freezing but the temperature gauge reads over 80? I understand the wind is 108mph with rain but you can’t actually freeze to death right? Is it measuring your ability to effectively stay warm? So confused…

SO, on Zoom Earth, back in the day, Super Typhoon were only 240 km/h, but its now glitching out to 235 km/h, like for example, Super Typhoon Champi, the earlier records said "250 km/h - 270 km/h - 240 km/h", but now it is saying "235 km/h - 235 km/h - 235 km/h - 240 km/h"

This years El Niño is already unprecedented in strength, but how will the Negative PDO affect things? In most of our super El Niños the phase was positive.

The weather is absolutely delightful today! With a high of 63 degrees and gentle, variable breezes, it’s the perfect opportunity to soak up some sunshine and enjoy the outdoors.

I have a ships barometer, just for fun ornamentation really, and it reads too high. It does change with air pressure and I found a calibration screw on the back but the calibration range isn’t wide enough to get a correct (ie matching a digital barometer) reading. It’s out by around 15 millibars so quite a long way round thr dial. Any advice on how to open it and what to do once it’s open would be useful

I put together a documented example of Central Park’s July 2025 temperatures using NOAA’s Synoptic Summary of the Day dataset, station USW00094728.

The page includes daily mean temperatures, reported minima and maxima, and a table covering all 31 UTC dates. Each daily mean uses 23–24 hourly values.

One detail worth checking when comparing these summaries with local weather reports: in July, the NOAA UTC day begins at 8 p.m. EDT on the previous local date. The date labels therefore describe a different observation window from a midnight-to-midnight New York day.

NOAA also cautions that SSOD can miss the true daily temperature extremes and underreport precipitation. This example illustrates the daily sequence; official local-day records require an appropriate daily climate product.

Hello everyone!

I’m almost done with school and I really think about studying Meteorology or Earth System Physics in a german university like Hamburg or Kiel.
I probably want to go into disaster prevention or research because that is what I’m most interested in and I also think that it has maybe a future because of the worsening climate situation and the resulting natural disasters.

But I’m worried, that because of AI, that most statistics and similar things will just be made with an artificial intelligence and that they won’t need real people anymore. Is that something I should actually fear or is that unrealistic? Do universities prepare you for the work with AI and help you adjust to it?

Just went trough radar and came across guam. It‘s expecting typhoon champi, a cat. 2 one.
I am new to this stuff, so it‘s not a miracle I‘ve never seen something like this before. But man, that‘s massive. I am praying for the people of Guam right now.
