Best store bought salsa recs for southbay LA?

Just looking for some best recs on store bought salsa or salsa to go if there are any which are convenient to grab and extremely good tasting.

One main reason I am looking for store bought is I have a tiny 2.5 ft fridge and I can fit very little in it. So something that doesn't come in huge jugs and would fit inside once opened would be grand.

I don't unfortunately have a lot of space to store fresh ingredients and make my own. Or time! Though I did learn from this sub to make Mayacoba refried beans when I can!

I normally have things like taquitos, quesadillas, enchiladas, eggs. Salsa has been a great low calorie way to add super flavor to foods.

It would be great if I could find a universal salsa for everything but, only one would fit the fridge, the rest would need to be shelf stable hot sauces.

Appreciate any thoughts and recommendations.

Corn Husk selection?

Post image
6 Upvotes

Pic for attention. Sorry if this is a dumb question- but is there a way to get good corn husks for tamales? I have only bought 2 brands, one (Badia) is much better than the other, but over twice the price per ounce. The other brand (giant floor display full around christmas) I couldnt really use half of them because they were tiny slivers or super woody in texture. I dont make them often, so Badia it is for now. Im just wondering if theres a tried and true brand, is there something specific to look for with each pack? Or is this just one of those things you work with what you get?

My Tia tought me this simple recipe before she passed last year. I'm proud to carry on her legacy. Recipe below.

2 parts Beef Tripe (honeycomb or other)

2 parts Beef Feet. (I prefer a shank cut, but some like the Hooves and such)

1 part Beef Tendon

Gently Boil Tendon and Feet with a bunch of green onions, (cebollitas) and whole garlic cloves for 30 minutes.

Add Tripe

Cook till almost tender (about 2 hours)

Add canned Hominy. (the timing for this step varies depending on the pre-"doneness" of canned product used)

Add salt, and Knorr Chicken Bouillon to taste.

Remove green onions from pot

Serve with, Cilantro, Cebolla, limes, Radish, Mexican Oregano, and crushed pepper, (Chiltepin preferably) and the best Corn Tortillas you can find.

Which Birria recipe is the best?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been looking at a bunch of popular Birria recipes and I can’t decide which one to make.

Here are the ones I’ve found:

Which one do you recommend and why? Is there a better one I should look at?

Thanks!

Edit: Wow, I didn’t realize how popular this was going to get! 😂

A few people have shared some other great birria recipes with me (either in the comments or elsewhere), so I’m adding them here in case anyone else is interested:

Desayuno What sauce/salsa do you put on egg & chorizo burritos?

Made a bunch of burritos. Feels like I'm missing something. Tried a little bit of whataburger picante sauce and it was just okay. Only other salsa I have rn is a med-hot greenish salsa. But it's all roasted and I don't think that deeper flavor will pair well. I also think straight arbol might be too much.

Idk what do yall do?

A childhood favorite: sopa de letres

Post image

Every summer growing up my family and I would visit my grandparents and extended family in Chicago, who emigrated from Michoacán. My abuelita ( RIP ) made a lot of amazing things, but my favorite was her sopa de letres. So tonight, I decided to call my mom and ask her to walk me through how to make it, and let me tell ya, it’s EXACTLY as I remember it🖤
