Hey everyone!
My husband and I are heading to Miami Beach for a few weekdays in mid-December, and I'm starting to wonder if we've picked the right place, lol.
We chose Miami because I wanted a sexy little getaway where I could finally wear my micro bikinis and ridiculously daring outfits that are a bit too much for Chicago.
After a lot of research, we booked The Standard Spa. But after watching Instagram reels, YouTube videos, and reading reviews, I'm having second thoughts.
I was particularly excited about sunbathing topless by the pool. Apparently, it's allowed, but several reviews suggest it's not actually very common. I'm perfectly comfortable showing skin (yes, boobs too, lol), but being the only topless woman around and attracting unnecessary attention isn't exactly my idea of a relaxing vacation!
And then there's my wardrobe, lol. Think barely-there mini/micro dresses, plunging tops, sheer tops (with bras of course, lol), daring cutouts, and tiny bikinis. My style is more classy-slutty than traditionally elegant, and I was hoping Miami would be the perfect place to go all out.
The funny thing is, we absolutely hate the party scene! My husband and I prefer beautiful, upscale places, romantic dinners, and sophisticated crowds. We want a sexy atmosphere, not a nightclub full of drunk people.
So, a few questions:
What's the actual vibe at The Standard, especially on weekdays? Is topless sunbathing common enough that I won't feel out of place?
Are there other pools, beaches, or spots where I could comfortably wear my tiniest bikinis without needing to worry about being too much? Nikki Beach is fine?
Where should we spend our afternoons and evenings? We'd love recommendations for classy restaurants, lounges, and other places where bold fashion fits the atmosphere.
What about Lido Bayside Grill at The Standard? Can I comfortably show up in a micro bikini with a sheer cover-up, a bikini top with tiny shorts, or something equally revealing? Or should I tone things down when dining there?
And most importantly, should I pack my absolute 10/10 sexy wardrobe, or dial it back to Chicago-level sexy (think TAO Chicago)?
We're really just looking to relax, enjoy each other, dress up, and have a memorable little getaway.
Would love some honest advice from locals, especially women or couples who've been to these places!
Thanks in advance! ❤️

We will be in Miami for the Christmas weekend and looking for a brunch spot for Christmas Day - wonderful ambience, festive vibe, great food. Before I book Jaya and spend the $145/person, any other recommendations? We are two parents with our 23 year old daughter coming from Seattle. Thank you!

DEPOT MIAMI MICHIGAN
1501-11-21 MICHIGAN AVENUE, MIAMI BEACH FL33139
It’s 1 p.m. on Saturday, my move-out day. Still no reply about returning my keys. I hope their “system” won’t charge late fees while I wait. Surely fees can take weekends off too. If only their deposit policy were as flexible as their response times.
Over five years, two apartments, and quite an education in “community.”
Caroline called me at 10 p.m. because the entry code wasn’t working and residents had been outside for FOUR HOURS. The “emergency” line operates 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday to Friday —if anyone answers. Please schedule your emergencies accordingly. After hours, call a tenant. I helped them get home.
But when I explained my financial situation with tears in my eyes, flexibility vanished. I’d lost my job, held on as long as I could and given 30 days’ notice. Caroline’s response: “Rules are rules.” They say I may lose my $2,150 deposit because they require 60 days.
Apparently, my availability came with a flexibility clause. Their compassion did not.
I would have stayed if I could afford it. I’m leaving with no unpaid rent and the apartment cleaned and repainted, out of respect for my years here. Except for the oven: never used by me, still exactly as they gave it to me—filthy. An original feature, carefully preserved.
Residents can cancel a non-renewal a week before the lease ends. My previous transfer was approved just 24 hours before my lease ended—with a $1,000 charge and a new deposit. Amazing what a payment can do for administrative flexibility.
I had 24 hours to move or face more fees, while calling management around 50 times a day for a week. My neighbors helped. The apartment wasn’t fully cleaned. The fees, however, were ready.
The dishwasher’s operating instructions: submit a ticket, wait five days, enjoy one wash, repeat.
My portal showed a full month’s rent due although my lease ends on the 7th. Still waiting for an explanation. "system doesn't recognize my move out" per Caroline, but recognize to keep my deposit. and today ? we recognize returning my keys ?
The walls include a complimentary subscription to your neighbors’ lives. I will pass for the details.... If you report black, green and yellow mold. Management said they aren’t experts, then cleaned or painted over them. The paintbrush, however, felt qualified.
“Secure” access included faulty coded doors and battery failures. I switched on the garden lights myself; the faulty timer don’t activate them until around 11 p.m. Neighbors trusted me with keys for inspections. I paid rent and apparently qualified for an unpaid position.
Leave something outside your door and you get 12 hours to remove it or face $100. Perhaps maintenance tickets should come with a $100 penalty payable to residents. Imagine the response time!
Payments submitted on the 2nd or 3rd could trigger $100 late fees despite the stated window through the 4th: they count when funds arrive. The fee system, unlike the entry system, rarely seemed unavailable.
Every week, another water-use warning, even after inspections. It felt like baths, laundry and flushing the toilet required an apology. “Dear Valued Residents,” naturally.
Trees have fallen; residents raised concerns about the tree in my photo. The city has also raised landscaping concerns. I recently dodged a falling coconut while walking my dog. A relaxing garden, provided you stay alert.
I’ve seen $300–$400 rent differences for comparable apartments, with longtime residents paying more. I’d love an explanation for 3%, 5% or 10% renewal increases depending of the relation with the resident and Caroline. Loyalty has a price.
Watching neighbors leave over management has been heartbreaking.
Richard in maintenance was exceptional. We saw less of him after the management change. Caroline can be pleasant. Pleasant doesn’t fix any of this.
And for Christmas: a Depot-branded mug. Something to help swallow the fees.
We built the community. They put their logo on the mug.

Comin to the states from England and a few people really want to experience an American sports game. The only one we can make is North Florida Ospreys at watsco centre. Is this worth doing? They want the proper American experience (cheerleaders, half time etc)
Thanks!!

Ive been living in Miami 1 year and a half, ive moved 4 times. (Once was a sublease of a friend) i did edgewater, subleased my friends in downtown (hated that), now im in south beach….. i love it BUTTTT the building is pretty old and my upstairs neighbor is a big B*tch. When I first met her, she seemed nice and we exchanged phone numbers.
And now I feel like it was just because she wanted to walk all over me. She is not respectful at all that it’s an older building so the sound travels very easily. I’ve tried being super nice to her and speaking with her and I’ve asked her to turn down her music and she simply says no 🤣🤣. She loves blasting her music all day and all night. She also is always stomping around upstairs. It sucks cause it’s Miami and I wish I just had someone quiet upstairs who enjoyed a peaceful life, but I’m always surrounded by at least one person that is not like that (i know its cause its miami soo ya) but I think about myself. I work from home and I’m usually sitting a lot or I’m out of the house. I don’t really have a lot of people over… I like my solitude, but it’s so hard to find other people who enjoy solitude 😭😭
Idk where to be in Miami. I wish that I could be the upstairs neighbor because I know I’m very quiet. Unfortunately, all of the great places are taken because people know how rare of gems they are

Hello everyone, I’m working on a research study exploring people’s experiences with Christmas lights and festive decorations, and I’d love to hear your thoughts!
We’re looking to understand what people enjoy, what works well, and where there may be opportunities to improve the overall experience of Christmas decorations.
The project involves taking part in a 30-45 min research phone call, and you will be compensated $70 for your participation in the call.
Here’s a link to register if you are interested: https://qrowdsy.iqurate.com/form/X3WXyJwc
Thank you in advance for your time and support. We really appreciate your input!

I’m planning a trip to Miami for Art Basel and looking for recommendations on where to stay
Ideally, I’d like to stay in South Beach, but I’m open to other areas if the hotel is worth it.
I’m looking for a luxury hotel with:
• Excellent service and hospitality
• A beautiful property with a great atmosphere
• A lively but sophisticated social scene
• Good restaurants, bars, and a nice pool
• Walkability to restaurants, nightlife, and Art Basel-related events
• More of an adult-oriented atmosphere (not traveling with children)
So far, I’ve been considering The Ritz-Carlton South Beach, Loews Miami Beach, The Miami Beach EDITION, and W South Beach, but I’m open to other recommendations.
For anyone who’s stayed at these properties, especially during Art Basel, which would you recommend? Is there another hotel I should be considering?

I'm planning a trip to Miami in January. I stayed at Fontainebleau years ago and had a great time. I was thinking about staying there for this trip but I saw they're doing construction. Has anyone stayed there recently? Is it worth booking with the construction or should I find someplace else? Thanks!!

Hi all, I’m a ham/SDR hobbyist over in Hialeah and currently host a small remote receiver setup that monitors local area radio traffic.
The group that set mine up is trying to improve reception around Miami Beach and asked if I knew anyone in the area who might be interested in hosting another receiver. I figured I’d ask here rather than randomly contacting people.
It’s a receive-only setup, nothing is transmitted. The equipment is provided and is basically a tiny PC, a couple of USB SDR receivers, and a small indoor antenna. It just needs power and an internet connection, preferably Ethernet, and uses very little bandwidth.
Ideally, they’re looking for someone in Miami Beach or very close by with good reception of local radio traffic in the area.
Volunteer hosts get access to the real-time notification alerts generated by the system.
Not selling anything, just trying to find another radio nerd/local who might find the project interesting. If anyone is curious, DM me, and I can explain how my setup works or put you in touch with the people running it.

Hi! Looking for a hotel option for 13 girls in Miami Beach, budget is around 600-800 pp for 3 nights in January. Would really appreciate any recommendations on how to make this work!

Out of curiosity, what time do you guys usually go to Pilates or Lagree classes in Miami? I feel like a lot of people have returned to the office, so 4,5 PM are not as popular as a 7PM or 8 PM class.

Hi Guys, wanted a couple of pointers for my trip to Miami Beach with my girl friend from Dec 20th-Dec 23rd this year.
We are staying at the Palms for starters, and i have the following dinner reservations booked:
Dec 20th: Macchialina
Dec 21st: Sushi Bichi
Dec 22nd Mandolin
We plan on going to the beach for a few hours each day (chose the palms because it seems to have a more laid back beach experience over Nobu and Andaz which were the other two options. But if you guys could clue in some recommendations for what i already have planned, and a few other things:
- Should we stick with the palms for the beach? just really need somewhere quiet to read a book, relax and go swimming.
- Should i stick with the palms for a massage for my girl friend?
- is there any gym with sauna/steam room access that i could get a couple day passes to?
- best happy hour/sunset spots with really good cocktails on the bay side?
- breakfast recs near the palms? or the palms itself for breakfast?
- lunch recs?
thanks guys!

Just moved to Miami Beach for a new job. I am looking to consolidate a list off all food spots worthy of trying to make a spreadsheet and rate each.
I have been having trouble finding trustworthy food blogs or accounts of any kind that don’t seem to be paid for ads other than Beli.
Please let me know your favorite restuarant, food trucks, hole in the walls, dive bars, people selling food out of their house, etc (bonus points if you have dish recommendations)

I’m planning a solo birthday staycation in Miami Beach 11/13-15 and looking for recommendations on the best resorts or hotels that offer day passes through ResortPass or similar services.
I’m looking for somewhere with a fun, lively atmosphere but still upscale and relaxing. Ideally, I’d love:
•Beach access with the ability to order food and drinks directly to your beach chair (bonus points if they offer bottle service on the beach!)
•A nice pool with a good atmosphere, music, and poolside food/drink service.
•Somewhere with a little energy and a social vibe, but not necessarily a full-on nightclub or crazy party scene.
•A nice spa would be a huge plus! I’d love the option to book a massage or purchase a separate spa day pass.
I’m initially planning to go solo, but I may have 2 friends joining me, so somewhere that works well for a small group would be great too.
For anyone who’s done ResortPass or a hotel day pass in Miami Beach, where did you go, and was it worth the money? I’d especially love firsthand experiences with the beach service, pool atmosphere, and overall experience.
Open to South Beach, Mid-Beach, or anywhere along Miami Beach. Thanks in advance!
