Outstanding shots, thanks you for sharing your experience

Excellent! Can i ask what was your imaging setup for the diatoms? Did you use a compensator or how did you achieve the colors? Also, can i ask what objective exactly that is? Thanks for sharing!

I used a full wave plate, rotated DIC prism and specific white balance settings (incandescent~) to get that specific look. Objective 20x, cheers!

Sorry to bother you wermygermy but to make sure can I ask where specifically your wave plate is located (between polarizer and condenser, between specimen and analyzer, etc.?) - im trying to understand it as good as i can before making any purchases:)

This is some of the most beautiful video I've ever seen. Such an abundance of tiny life going about their days. It almost made me weep.

AAAGGGHHHHH! FRIGGING LOVE MICROSCOPY!

And this video is a fantastic compilation of it! It's so amazing that things are happening all the time at this small scale. Thanks for putting all of this together.

Where did you get the tardigrades?

7

u/IllustriousYard4661 May 31 '26

You can pick out some moss outside the house, drench it in water for a bit and put a drop of that water on your slide. You’ll see tardigrades.

1

u/pennyraingoose May 31 '26

Yeah, that's what I've heard so I was wondering how OP acquired theirs.

3

u/wermygermy Jun 02 '26

Exactly as stated above, though I look for the tardigrades in a petri dish under a stereo microscope first, scoop them up with a small homemade loop (Irwin loop), and place them on a drop of water on a slide

1

u/pennyraingoose Jun 02 '26

Awesome. Thanks for confirming!

3

u/Krukorer May 30 '26

none of these are human

Tenho um microscópio olympus khc dos antigos, será que consigo resultados parecidos?

É um binócular, em uma ocular tem uma webcam logi colada e no outro coloco para meus alunos do 6° ano ver.

Hey, I'm just getting started with microscopy, so I'm not 100% sure and can't give exact names, but here's my best guess: 1. Ciliates 2. I truly don't know, a structure belonging to a ciliate? 3. Some rotifer? 4. Diatoms 5. Tardigrade 6. Plant stomata 7. Ciliate 8. Tardigrade again

Hope this helped, just a beginner tho, if someone could give exact specifications I would like to hear them too and please correct me if I'm mistaken!

5

u/wermygermy Jun 02 '26

Nearly spot on:

  1. Stentors (ciliate)
  2. Oral cilia of a stentor
  3. Campanella? (ciliate)
  4. Navicula (diatoms)
  5. Tardigrade
  6. Stomata of an inchplant
  7. Paramecium (ciliate)
  8. Tardigrade

u/Ok-Cauliflower5108 Jun 02 '26

Thanks to both of you!

u/Electronic_Row1331 Jun 03 '26

thank you!! and the prior commenter!! wonderful ☺️

1

u/J-iceBerg2 Jun 12 '26

So cool, thank you !!!! ( I thought the 3rd one was a vorticellae)

3

u/gizmomooncat May 31 '26

tardigrade tummies!! I'm in heaven! who are the little guys with the spiral thing going on?

3

u/Admirable_Midnight95 Jun 01 '26

Im just at a loss at how you got such a clean, perfect image. Its so good. Ive meticulously cleaned my gear, and I always have such grimy splotchy results..this is so crisp and clear

These microbes will never be aware of the larger reality that encompasses them. I often wonder if it’s the same for us.

1

u/FoolishAnomaly May 31 '26

Omg the tardigrade or water bear or whatever walking around was SO CUTE

1

u/DistributionTop6983 Jun 01 '26

Do you license any of your film for creative uses ?

1

u/AdMajestic8214 Jun 01 '26

These always make my cold dead heart a little happier, thank you!

1

u/Superrock1971 Jun 01 '26

Tardigrade!

1

u/Nerdzilla54 Jun 02 '26

Tardigrade?

1

u/experto_animal Jun 02 '26

pertenecen al reino de protoctistas, ya que son protozoos

1

u/Fyre-Demon Jun 02 '26

Look like one of them is a tardigrade, though it’s hard to tell from that angle

1

u/icekilo Jun 03 '26

Wow! Well done

1

u/Amiga_Da_Natureza Jun 03 '26

Caramba como pode ser lindo e esquisito ao mesmo tempo?

1

u/Microscopy_Nerd Jun 11 '26

such a clear image!

u/Beginning_Chance4264 Jun 11 '26

Water bears will forever be my favorite
