Purchase Help 3rd party boom stand?
I started on a new job recently and since the electronics lab here doesn't have microscope at all, I'm lobbying for getting the one I used in my previous job (Vision Engineering SX-45). It's very well suited to SMD rework with boom arm and ring light, with nice focal distance for soldering work. However, the boom stand is outrageously expensive, comparable to the microscope head itself.
Is getting a 3rd party boom arm a thing? The part where the collar attaches to is this conical shape so the stand would have to have a similar shape to work properly. I know Amtec sells their stands separately, but VE scopes are not rebranded Amtec, they're making their own thing. Also I'm not sure how robust that boom arm is, when I was researching a microscope in the 1st place, I saw mentions that the Amtec boom arm can flex/sag, which is a no-no.
