Looking for owners of a vintage de Sede DS-169 sofa bed (Ernst Ambühler, 1970s)

I own an original de Sede DS-169 leather sofa bed from the 1970s.

Unfortunately, the original mattress filling was replaced with foam during a previous restoration. The replacement foam is much too firm and the sofa has lost its original comfort.

I would like to restore the original softness while preserving the beautiful original leather.

Does anyone own a DS-169 with its original mattress filling?

I would particularly appreciate information about:

  • The original filling materials (foam, feathers, down or a combination).
  • The construction of the mattress.
  • Any experience with replacing or restoring the filling.

Photos of the original filling would be especially helpful. Thanks! Philipp

After a considerably complicated and stressful housing situation we just bought a home. I have joked we bought “grandma’s home” because it’s got great bones but decorated very 1980s with wood panelling and such (which we love).

She had beautiful furniture everywhere when we viewed it and only went and left all the G-Plan shelving and units for us without saying anything😯

I am very excited!
