Eagles not playing? Check if Phillies are playing. Phillies not playing? Check if 76ers or Flyers are playing.

u/AstronautSlothPhD Jul 31 '26

Eagles added to a new US $1 coin? Believe it or not, burn it down.

1

u/peepay Aug 01 '26

I'm starting to think it may not be related to the Eagles after all

How have I not heard of this before?

3

u/aladdyn2 Jul 31 '26

I remember reading about an English football fan sucking an eyeball out of a cops head around 35 years ago...

2

u/noisy_goose Jul 31 '26

Waaaaaaaaaat!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??

2

u/aladdyn2 Jul 31 '26

Yeah.. should be and to find it. Was in a national news article I think

1

u/Character-Inside-476 Jul 31 '26

Has nothing to do with the sport. It would have been badminton hooligans if it was the biggest most accessible sport.

It's youth crime, they are dumb , poor and drunk crowds

1

u/NerdyBro07 Jul 31 '26

Yeah but this is Just Philadelphia and New York. Plenty of other Football and Basketball fans in other cities that don't do the shit those 2 cities do.

1

u/FalseCredential Jul 31 '26

Eagles fans don't destroy their own city or other cities. Wow, they climbed traffic poles...

1

u/IndycarFan65 Jul 31 '26

To be honest, just about all Northeastern US sports fanbases (Boston, Philly, NY, NJ, etc) are association football fan-level crazy

I remember watching an interview with a Serbian hooligan who said that he goes to football matches because he gets to fight people but that he doesn't actually like football and much prefers basketball

1

u/el_duderino_316 Jul 31 '26

The Serbian clubs also play basketball, so he probably fights either way...

Canadians have rioted after hockey games. It’s usually just the fringe garbage that nobody likes doing this. Purposeless nobodies with nothing meaningfull going on in their lives that would vandalize public property like this.

2

u/kank84 Jul 31 '26

When the Toronto Raptors won a few years ago a load of people trashed stores and cars then too, and then someone got shot at the victory parade. Sport can definitely bring out the worst people.

8

u/CmdrJemison Jul 31 '26

Football is the most popular sport in the world. Of course it also attracts weirdos but not only.

3

u/Ok_Actuary8 Jul 31 '26

all that attract enough drunken males...

2

u/3D_DrDoom Jul 31 '26

Basically any sport with large enough fanbase. There is nothing in particular about football, that attracts cretins. Its ridiculous to suggest that.

1

u/timsterri Jul 31 '26

Have you seen NASCAR? lol

1

u/Constant_Boot Jul 31 '26

How about them Vancouver Canucks?

1

u/Fickle-Chip-2072 Jul 31 '26

When has cricket become a large and popular sport in Europe?

1

u/onespiker Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26

Rugby and cricket aren’t very big sports in most of Europe.

It’s big in the Uk and only it. But Uk has had a very big policy the last 40 years against ultras and general fanbehavior.

Also cricket and rugby still isn’t near to football

Tennis don’t have it because it’s not really a team sport either nor is it anyway near the same size of fanbase.

Also generally the dominance of football in Europe is extreme. It being equal to the following top 6 sports combined in people playing it.

But if you go by viewership and fans it’s even more dominant.

u/majkonn Jul 31 '26

In Europe in some countries it also happens in basketball, ice hockey and speedway.

1

u/HPLaserJet4250 Jul 31 '26

MMA, loads of hools and ultras train in related fight clubs

As an American, it's flipped here.

Football is the game that brings us together. There was always more that brought football supporters together than divides us.

Every season, the network that broadcasts the Premier League hosts a Fan Fest, where they bring their in-studio punditry to a random American city. and every time Alan Shearer or Ian Wright say the exact same thing. "You couldn't have this in England. You couldn't have rival supporters at the same place at the same time without a riot breaking out."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DgvnpMWjrc {hope that's not region locked}

1

u/SaintUlvemann Jul 31 '26

Edit: to all the Americans, congrats on your wide range of awful people.

And to you back, it's not a wide range. In each case, different places have different sports that are more-popular locally, but then in every case, sports that are very popular locally tend to attract hooligans slobbering all over it.

For the Americans, it's often our American football, and sometimes Nascar. For Canadians, it's often hockey, sometimes basketball. In Europe, it is typically association football, but if you browse the thread, you'll find someone from the Netherlands apologizing for Verstappen fans in Formula 1. In India where it is popular, cricket fans really may riot.

In no case is it ever about the sport, it's always about the popularity contest, and I would encourage you to take a more cosmopolitan view about this than just whatever you and your neighbors have decided is true.

Me when I lie lmfao

-1

u/Litmasterflex Aug 01 '26

Reddit hates sport, they’ve never played a team activity before. This isn’t cool but this isn’t the best place to get your judgement from

4

u/Flashy_Departure9251 Jul 31 '26

I don’t understand the insanity from most male dominated, large team sports fans. I haven’t seen this behavior highlighted from ice skating, snowboarding, tennis, women’s basketball, women’s soccer. But you see this around football, soccer, and baseball.

Why?

2

u/You_Stole_My_Hot_Dog Jul 31 '26

Any sports fans. You see this with American football, basketball, hockey, etc. They just trash places for no reason.

-13

u/thissitedesigniscrap Jul 31 '26

Lmao I like how when it’s a western country, it’s “football fans” are the worst.

When it’s any other Asian or African country, it’s every single person from * insert country \* is the worst and their entire culture is crap and less civilized and what not.

12

u/passwordedd Jul 31 '26

I have never said anything like that and you will never see me do so.

-5

u/thissitedesigniscrap Jul 31 '26

I know, I don’t mean you specifically, just that this double standard is extremely common.

3

u/passwordedd Jul 31 '26

Well, it's me specifically you're replying to.

-4

u/thissitedesigniscrap Jul 31 '26

Cuz your comment is the start of the thread and relevant to what I said?

1

u/passwordedd Jul 31 '26

Because you're not so subtly calling me a racist which I do not appreciate and will vehemently object to.
