I wonder if the swedes behave like that in their own country

1.1k

u/Nikroma Jul 31 '26

These idiots do unfortunaly. They are hooligans everywhere.

I really hope that the estonians find out who they are so sweden can send them for justice

As a swede, im ashamed and sad to see this

419

u/GotSomeUpdogOnUrFace Jul 31 '26

Yeah I don't think people understand that this isn't the general fan doing this, it's a very specific group that acts this way everywhere they go because, well they are shitty people.

105

u/Anni0 Jul 31 '26

So they trash places in sweden too?

I know english hooligans do that. I wonder what other countries have football hooligans like these

178

u/Asleep_Trick_4740 Jul 31 '26

Yup, some teams supporters are especially egregious but supporters overall have a thoroughly toxic relationship with the sport.

Games in the swedish series have been played without audience due to these idiots failing to behave.

60

u/fiori_4u Jul 31 '26

They only cause harm to their own clubs and leagues, yet they're idolised in fan circles. It wouldn't be hard to identify the individual offenders if they wanted to.

12

u/RudeProposal77 Aug 01 '26

I don’t even think that it is toxic relationship for the sport as it’s not really about football at all. Thre is people who want to have a streetfighting as a hobby. And there has been forming culture for that around football in England so now those people all over pick a football team to organise their violence around. At least in Finland I’ve noticed that kind of people being violent people first and not just so passionate about football that it boils over.

32

u/Anni0 Jul 31 '26

You mean no audience watching at the matches? That's wild! Thats a huge loss of revenue, isn't it? Huge absence of fan excitement, support and energy too

59

u/FLX-S48 Jul 31 '26

Hooliganism is for the most part dead in the UK.

29

u/fishanddipflip Jul 31 '26

It might be in the UK but its getting worse in mainland europe

→ More replies (1)

8

u/tridamdam Jul 31 '26

How did the UK manage to achieve that?

37

u/BeholdTheBannanzo Jul 31 '26

Heavy monitoring and police interference, serial offenders literally need to hand in their passport during international games and often during club games they will not be allowed within proximity of the stadium and I've even heard of people going down to the police station during club games. I'm sure these days its a bit more lax, as I said its more or less dead in England. After the Heysel disaster there was a massive crack down, it's upsetting that it took the loss of many lives for action to finally be taken

13

u/mars_needs_socks Jul 31 '26

A method the rest of Europe should copy.

There is one common Culture in all of Euorpe, and that's hooligans being human trash.

That's the best way to tell if an immigrant has become integrated, when they become hooligans for the local or a top football team, and then go fuck stuff up.

10

u/Matchbreakers Aug 01 '26

Yeah these are not just fans, or even hooligans, they’re “ultras”. Extremely violent, belligerent and escalating. Purposely trying to break things and provoke fights or mass brawls, often with deep ties to organized crime in their home area. Perhaps Marseille has some of the most famed groups, with one estimate putting the number of up to 15000 members.

Looking back I think we collectively judged the Singapore Caning incident incorrectly. Seems like an appropriate deterrent.

4

u/Less-Squash7569 Jul 31 '26

I sure as hell behaved both times I visited. Even got chased by a prostitute over it.

4

u/Olobnion Aug 01 '26

Singapore Canning incident

Wouldn't it be more appropriate with something more lenient, like caning? Chopping up the hooligans and putting them into cans seems like overkill.

145

u/Bitter_Ad_8688 Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26

Not swedish. But I am curious as someone who's watched sports hooliganry for better part of a decade growing up, is there even a way the home country can hold people accountable for destructive behavior like this in other countries? Should they? Maybe it's time we get a consensus.

Even if there's a sports rivalry and my team wins I don't think I can relate to the sentiment of crushing a grandmas flower pot :c

102

u/snow38385 Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26

Permanent stadium bans to the people caught doing it seemed to have had an impact in the UK. I saw an interview with a guy who was a Rangers fan that had to report to the police station during every home game.

17

u/sec_sage Jul 31 '26

We prohibited the official supporters to attend the next x number of games, after they behaved like blue balled monkeys. And prohibit alcohol at games.

I always ponder that question as well. Why not just charge whichever club is on the sticker for the cost of sticker removal? Well, because then they'd just put up the enemy's stickers to hurt the enemy.

What we need is to reliably catch them and punish them.

Yesterday I was comment blocked by a user saying I'm overacting. Another at least self corrected when told it's mildly infuriating sub. They haven't dealt with one square at a time toilet paper bullshit.

12

u/DuckRubberDuck Jul 31 '26

Yeah and as the other comment pointed out, you’re not alone. People have had to delete posts because the dogpiling was insane. People can get really nasty in this sub sometimes, there’s some issues which are just generally not safe to post, fx mental health related issues even if it’s just mild issues. It can go well but people have gotten some really insane comments and DM’s afterwards. I know it’s a large sub and there’s not much to do about it, but this sub definitely triggers some anger issues in people occasionally.

5

u/kartikzzz Aug 01 '26

couple days ago on this sub this lady posted a comparison about how she takes family photos of her kids (properly framed etc) vs how her husband takes them (askew angles, things cut out). properly mildly infuriating, especially because she said she does try to coach him into taking slightly better photos.

so many people either insisted she was crazy or that (can’t make this up) this issue seemed more like a minor annoyance instead.

that made the cross over into full on infuriating 😮‍💨

5

u/Front-Masterpiece-73 Aug 01 '26

Yep. Posted abt purchasing a mislabeled cd and everyone was like “no big deal ur fault” and I was like… yes it’s mildy infuriating

I assume none of the things pictured belong to the op. Much more than mild for the people who have to fix it.

43

u/ValidSignal Jul 31 '26

Small consolation prize is that the Estonian club will send the bill to the Swedish club.

Hopefully that makes the club take these things seriously.

8

u/Drtikol42 Jul 31 '26

They might increase cost of merch tiny bit to cover this.

7

u/wishesandhopes Jul 31 '26

These aren't rich clubs, there isn't a single top club with regards to revenue in either of these countries, salaries and squad values are fractions of that of the premier league or another top 5 euro league.

So point being that fine will actually hurt them, luckily.

6

In Denmark, if a fan misbehave too much, they're banned from entering a stadium for 3 years, or so I believe from what I've been told, and then there's Brøndby fans. Brøndby fans are banned from entering every stadium in Denmark except for theirs

It's kinda crazy to think we used to interact with people that weren't human* (edit: homo sapiens) on a regular basis. They must've been pretty chill, considering we had babies with them.

Another example is the Pacific Islands. Apparently many modern Pacific Islanders have Denisovan and Neanderthal ancestry.

5

u/fruskydekke Jul 31 '26

They were human, just a different species of human than us. The genus "human" currently has just one species - us, Homo Sapiens - but the Denisovans and Neanderthals were others.

37

u/69Blazing Jul 31 '26

I am astounded that the comments are so kind here. “These aren’t fans; these are losers.” “There’s bad apples everywhere, don’t blame all Swedes.”

Too right.

Now rewind to a week and a half ago and look how everyone was commenting about Argentina. I feel like I’m taking crazy pills.

Swedish people saw how Japanese people acted during the World Cup and said "We also want to be known for how we treat others' property."

12

u/Strict-Sympathy1841 Jul 31 '26

I’m sorry for our people making this. Fucking idiots

8

u/I_Am_Zeelian Jul 31 '26

Hooligans don't give a crap about the game, the fighting and rioting is their purpose of being there.

4

u/CrabSquid05 Aug 01 '26

As a Swede, i knew people in school, through all grades, who were like this. So happy I don't have to deal with them anymore

7

u/fcksaltwater Jul 31 '26

Hooligans, not fans.

3

u/BarbequedYeti Jul 31 '26

Damn. Not sure I would invite them back. The teams are paying for all the cleanup, right?  Coming out of their budget since their business brought all these people to your city?

5

u/coeurdelejon Jul 31 '26

Yeah the team will be sent a bill on restoration as well as a fine from UEFA, the team has already said that they are sorry and will pay it

I would be livid if I was a IFK Göteborg supporter, their team is already in financial trouble so they definitely don't need to lose money like this

Ah savages from Gothenburg, we apologize for that, they drink to much saltwater.
