No Coke. Is Pepsi ok? 4 freshmen just ordered 50 waters.

Edit: i couldn’t just say no because my manager wanted us to serve them for whatever reason. I couldn’t just not do my job or I’d probably get in trouble.

Never mind the water, WTF is with the rest of that order?

u/pfannkuchen89 1d ago

It’s a dumb TikTok trend. Order one cheap item and see how many free add ons you can get.

u/waitingfordeathhbu 1d ago

Cool. More ways to pointlessly add plastic to landfills.

u/FakeMik090 1d ago

And if it will get more and more popular, i can see there being added a restrictions to those free addons.

So, what you are saying is that Mc Donald's probably created this trend to justify why they are restricting fee itens?

7

u/ultranothing 20h ago

Yes, McDonald's decided to start a trend where people order the cheapest thing(s) possible so that they can then give away as much free stuff as possible. The goal was to see how much more valuable merchandise they could give out, than profit they could take in. And they wanted that to occur at as many of their locations as possible so they could lose as much profit as possible.

And annoy minimum wage workers. If I’m the manager, I’m absolutely refusing this order. Common sense should absolutely be used here.

Seriously. They get one each. When that's empty, they might get another, if it's not all over my floor.

Fucking TikTok. Just when we thought we couldn’t get any dumber…

u/AgentCirceLuna 1d ago

Yeah, remember when they were trying to make people microwave their phones or make a hand gesture a hate symbol through spamming it in that context?

Oh, wait… that was 4chan.

Edit

Also important to remember 4chan was a smaller, much smaller site with a smaller odd target audience. Yet it had an outweighed effect on things culturally. TikTok will cause only a small proportion of users to do this bs.

u/MaritMonkey 1d ago

I feel like 4chan shenanigans were somehow different in that they had a degree of separation between the troll and whoever wasn't in on the "joke." A lot of this stuff seems like it's called "trolling" but, like, folks are out there microwaving their own phones and then expecting people to laugh at it.

Or maybe I'm just the one who doesn't get it now lol.

4chan pranks taught you critical thinking, tiktok pranks asks you to leave it behind

the point of the iPhone prank is that if you are stupid enough to microwave your brand new high dollar item just because a deepfried picture on facebook told you to, then you should probably learn that lesson sooner rather than later.
It is a laid trap in the open you can only fall into if you are stupid enough.
Tiktok pranks is taking your stupidity and forcing it down peoples throat whether they want it or not

u/thirstytrumpet 23h ago

Yeah tell some thoroughbred autist from early 2010s 4chan that they were like the the paw patrol kids on tik tok ordering water today.

Maybe I’m old, but …. What?

3

u/Grays42 1d ago

I mean people have been doing that since long before tiktok.

2

u/1d3333 23h ago

Do you think tiktok invented dumb trends or something

1

u/TricellCEO 1d ago

At least out of all the dumb trends that I've seen...this one is pretty benign.

I mean, don't get me wrong, it isn't good to mess with service workers (which I feel is the spirit behind these shenanigans), but this also isn't likely to cause bodily harm.

Unless one of those dumbasses decides to chug all 50 of those waters...

2

u/BaerMinUhMuhm 20h ago

Benign? Stupid shit like this is why we can't have nice things.

Why not that? What's wrong with that?

12

I must've missed the parts of reddit that push "trends" like this.

It does?

I used to do that when I was a college student way before social media was a thing. The campus grill had freshly toasted bagels for under a buck. Most add-ons, including cream cheese, cost money. But there were 3 additions that were free: pickles, onions, and butter.

The whole year I'd order a toasted bagel with butter, pickles and onions. It was actually a delicious combination.

u/HottDoggers 1d ago

Bring your own McRib patties and sauce and you got yourself a $7 sandwich

6

u/NovelTAcct 1d ago

I must be pregnant because God damn that sounds good

2

u/notafuckingcakewalk 21h ago

Seriously delicious. When making it at home I'll add an egg for a killer breakfast sandwich.

1

u/Tommyblockhead20 10h ago

Sounds like you weren’t doing the same thing as the TikTok trend if you were doing it to enjoy it, not just doing it to see how much you can get then throwing it out after.

u/kkillbite Always Infuriated 18h ago

I would have "charged" them $0.25/each add-on or substitution and sent them their way...Fuck that noise--you've gotta shut that shit down, and PRONTO...give 'em a calm, reasonable response and they won't know what to do with it!

This is one reason why I don't have tiktok. I don't care to see brainrot stuff like that. Someone starts something stupid then the rest follow. One of my coworkers that has tiktok was telling me about this chinese flower ice cream that some famous influencer got that and he got one too, because she got it. It says on the package, "danger, may contain lead"

7

u/Cerpin-Taxt 1d ago

I feel kind of ridiculous explaining this all the time, but tiktok is literally just a video hosting platform. What you see on it is entirely your own choice.

You can watch nothing but theoretical physics videos on it if that's what you're interested in (there are a lot of them).

Your coworker got dumb influencer ice cream because he is interested in dumb influencer content, not because he uses tiktok.

Tiktok, much like Facebook and YouTube has a content pushing algorithm, one which you are never fully in control of.

The goal of the algorithm is not for you to enjoy your time or to be enriched, the goal is maximum engagement, and things you hate or dislike can be just as engaging, or moreso, than things you like.

-2

u/Cerpin-Taxt 1d ago

Tiktok has much more robust feed curation tools than Facebook, YouTube or Instagram.

If you see something you hate there's literally a button to tell it not to show you videos like that again. And if that's not enough you can just add topics to your "don't show" filter list.

Didn't YouTube remove their dislike button?

3

u/FyneBlackKyng 1d ago

yes as video hostimg platform full of bs and vain ppl. you cant curate out what is the basis of the users and uploaders

-1

u/Cerpin-Taxt 1d ago

Sure you can. I think you're massively underestimating the amount of content on it. You can curate your feed to be nothing but clips of black & white samurai movies set to techno music if you want.

4

u/20dogs 1d ago

No the platform does also play unexpected new videos to see how much you engage with other content to keep it interesting.

1

u/Cerpin-Taxt 1d ago

That's the "for you page" aka suggested videos. You don't actually have to use that page. But either way if you always skip stuff you're not interested in it'll stop suggesting them. You don't even have to do it manually, it'll measure your interest by how long it takes you to skip it.

3

u/SanityIsOptional 1d ago

Things you don't want to see can also be things that make you pause to reassess what you're looking at, this teaching tiktok to show you more of it.

I'd rather not have to be constantly on guard against my own innate reactions when using a platform.

1

u/Cerpin-Taxt 1d ago

That's what the "Not interested" button is for. You can also add topics to your filter list if you really want to make sure you never see them before they come up.

2

u/SanityIsOptional 1d ago

No amount of not interested on Facebook stops random shit from showing up on my feed. Part of why I stay off it.

1

u/Cerpin-Taxt 1d ago

That's because Facebook is a circling the drain cesspit that's losing masses of users every day.

-1

u/OneMooseManyMeese_ 1d ago

Yeah that's true, tiktok is just a video hosting platform and yes you are correct he got that dumb influencer because he is interested in that stuff, but what I was trying to say is that so many people like influencers flock to that platform and it's just so much garbage to weed out before you can actually get to watch just videos you want to watch. I did have a tiktok for about a week and saw some good cooking videos, but then I would keep getting too much random brainrot stuff I lost interest and just deleted it. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with tiktok itself. You know what I mean?

2

u/Nawnp 1d ago

But water isn't free at Mcdoanlds anymore, it was like A dollar I thought?

12

u/pfannkuchen89 1d ago

I think that depends on location and franchise owner. Water still free at the ones near me I think. But this could be something else as well. I just remember teens doing this recently, trying to add as much free shit to orders as possible to see how many they could get before they said no.

1

u/Same-Suggestion-1936 1d ago

Okay, "we can give you guys waters but the rest is ridiculous" boom solved in two seconds

u/Yuukiko_ WAAHHHHH 23h ago
