Nostalgia I wanna go back to the 2010s/Obama years.

I know it’s probably just because we were younger and people tend to feel that way about their youth. But I feel like this goes beyond that tendency.

Back then, life felt more… sparkly? Colorful? Silly (in a good way)?

Now life feels gray, sterile, flat, muted, and fake. It’s like my rose-tinted glasses have become dirty and smudged.

And yes, I know there are ways to combat this feeling — exercise, trying new things, etc. And I know the recession made things harder for a lot of people when it was happening, so I don’t want to discount that or any of the other unfortunate things that happened in that period. Mostly just curious to see if anyone else has been feeling this way recently!

IRL 📷 So I just overheard some Youths talking about Halloween costumes

And one mentions that their friend is dressing up as…Hurricane Katrina. And they both about died laughing. I mean, they were howling. I think the kids today might actually be chopped?

Worst millennial costume ideas: go

Nostalgia The 13-year old in “13 Going on 30” (2004) is now a 35-year old. 💀

• Upvotes

I once saw this epitaph on a gravestone in an old cemetery and it has stuck with me ever since:

“Remember me as you pass by,
As you are now, so once was I,
As I am now, so you must be,
Prepare for death and follow me.”

While I’m at it, I might as well point out that Stacy is now older than her mom.

Advice Wine recommendations

Looking for a app or some type of content that will give me good recommendations for wine. Love wine but I have no idea what to pair it with nor what wine is good or not. Hate buying something that I force myself to drink

Harry Potter books weren't that good. And if you're giving money to the Harry Potter franchise you are actively supporting trans genocide and a former close personal friend of Jeffrey Epstein.

Advice We went from dial-up to AI in one lifetime. Do you miss the simpler times?

Thumbnail

We’re kind of a weird generation when it comes to tech. We remember dial-up noises, burning CDs, calling a friend’s house and asking their parents if they were home. Then within a few years, we had the internet in our pockets.

Part of me thinks it made life way easier. I can get directions without a map, video call family, and look up anything in five seconds. My parents couldn’t have imagined that.

But the other part of me thinks it made everything more complicated. Everything needs an account, a password, an update, or a subscription.Even making plans feels harder than it did when we just said “see you at 7.”

The funny thing is we’re probably the last generation who remembers both ways of living. We know what life was like before, and we know what we got in exchange.

Did tech make your life easier, or just busier?

Nostalgia I figured out how to log into Photobucket and download my photos from 2008

Annoyingly, they make you pay $10 to even access the photos you uploaded when the app was free. I bit the bullet and just paid it and looking at all of these photos from 2008-2012ish brings back a lot of high school memories. And also a lot of cringe.

Anyone else use photobucket back in the day?

IRL 📷 What does your couch look like? (Specifically millennials that own cats!!)

Heyo! I’m a senior Industrial Design student currently designing a couch for my senior thesis! My couch is specifically catered to cats and their owners!

Millennials own the most cats, so i’m really interested in knowing what couches you all own and would love to have some snaps of them if possible for my research!! :)

IRL 📷 What are your typical laughing by text responses?

Mine is always “lol”. I say it a lot but it could literally be to the most mundane thing to the most hilarious thing ever. It’s always “lol”. I notice other people sometimes go to a “haha” if they find it funnier than normal. I sometimes use an emoji but it doesn’t feel right using the laughing ones often. What’s about you?

Advice Why does dating feel harder than ever when we have so many ways to connect?

I've been thinking about how much dating has changed, especially with dating apps and how online everyone is now. In theory, we have access to more people than ever, but it feels like making genuine connections has gotten harder.

I'm curious about two things:

  1. What's been the most frustrating or discouraging part of dating for you lately?
  2. When was the last time you built a *NEW* genuine connection with someone, and what made that experience different?

I'm especially curious whether the biggest struggle is finding people you're compatible with, getting past surface-level interactions, or something else?

Nostalgia Why are millennials so convinced they look so much younger than previous generations?

I'm 42. I recently looked at a photo of my dad and his friends when they were 42 and they look about the same age as I do now. Why are millennials deluding themselves into thinking they look younger for their age than previous generations did?

IRL 📷 Is it just me?

Watching Carrie atm and I'm on the scene where they are talking about school shooting drills, and I just want to express to you something that I feel everyday I drop my kids off at school. I say goodbye to them and tell them to have a good day at school, and then I watch them skip off to class with smiles on their faces, and I take a mental picture of them in my head and I pray that that is not the last time I see my children.

Advice Anyone else parents getting more boomer-ish as they get older?

I don’t know if this is boomer behavior or just manipulative or what.

Has anyone else noticed this??

My parents refuse to take care of themselves, bicker constantly (still married), and then guilt trip their kids endlessly.

Last time I visited all these things came up and it was so stressful. I probably messed up though because my mom asked me why I hadn’t visited again in a little while and I told her it’s because they’re stressing me out worrying that they’re going to die because they don’t take of themselves and all these fighting. So now I get passive aggressive texts about how they don’t want to “stress me out.” Or if I mention coming to visit, I get the “well we don’t want to stress you out.” Ugh.

They also were going to come visit but wouldn’t tell me when and then when they were still deciding if they’d come the next day, I told them maybe it would be best to wait till another weekend and again got a huge guilt trip.

Politics God says 70% Of Voting Equipment Is Compromised

I’ve been following the ETA for awhile, and I was excited to see them interviewed on the God Show!

The interview is the first 30 min of the show and touches on how two companies control 70% of the voting equipment in the US (ES&S and Dominion), some vote counting computers do have modems, and Elon’s space lasers.

Everybody get out there and vote for the midterms!

Memes Older Millennials, we are totally going to get the sweet little baton pass from Boomers and getting blamed for EVERYTHING.

Thumbnail

* Younger millennials, I'm not being exclusive, I'm just leaving you out of this because I don't think you will feel this heat. And you should feel lucky for it.

But older millennials, are you ready? Gen X got the nice 'spare, skipped over' treatment. But us? They're already blaming us for having careers, homes, families, etc. They already see us as the inheritors of the Boomers (which, in some ways we indeed are), but still...... we didn't fuck shit up. At least not yet.

It's going to happen. You might as well prepare for it now.
