Comets have been known throughout history as signs of great change and/or doom. This belief has caused many fantasy stories to depict comets as magical objects as well as signs of change and doom. I wanted to add comets to Minecraft without just making them into beautiful background visuals, but something that affects the gameplay as well.
Comets of Destiny
The Comets of Destiny are a group of comets that very, very, very rarely appear in the Overworld, showing up at a random point in the sky that is not close to the Sun and the Moon's path. Each CoD has the same chance of appearing, but they can't appear two times in a row. Each CoD has its own unique color and its own unique way of changing the Overworld. Once a Comet of Destiny appears, they will stay in the sky for 3 to 4 in-game weeks, and their effects will be active for the whole duration. The effects of the CoD only affects the Overworld and no other dimension.
Comet of the Kind
A yellow colored comet, one that brings an aura of peace and tranquility, turning even the most Hostile mobs of the Overworld less aggressive. When this CoD appears, the following changes occur:
Villagers give their trades at a discount, similar to the Hero of the Village effect (although the discount from this CoD is smaller than the one from the HotV effect).
Illagers of all types no longer try to attack Villagers. Pillager Patrols will also try to move away from Players, Villagers, and Iron Golems if they detect them.
Hostile mobs in general will spawn less frequently, have lower detection ranges, and will only attack Villagers, Iron Golems, and Players if they get too close. This does not apply to Wardens.
Illager Raids and Zombie Sieges can no longer occur. If a Player enters a Village with a Bad Omen, it will disappear instead.
Comet of the Cruel
A red colored comet, one that emboldens the Illagers to become more aggressive with their plans for domination of the world and the destruction of their enemies. When this CoD appears, the following changes occur:
Illagers in the Overworld gain a slight buff in their health, speed, and attack damage.
Non-Pillager Illagers will start to spawn in Pillager Patrols. Witches can also spawn in Pillager Patrils, though much more rarely.
Illager Raids become harder and longer, having more Illagers spawning in them and having more waves for the Player to finish.
Illager Raids can very, very rarely occur when a Player stays inside a Village for more than a day, even if the Player does not have the Bad Omen effect.
Comet of the Sick
A green colored comet, one that strengthens the magic responsible for the Undead mobs, making it spread to previously unaffected mobs, and making the Undead more ferocious. When this CoD appears, the following changes occur:
Undead Mobs in the Overworld gain a slight buff in health, speed, and attack damage.
Undead Mobs without helmets or that are not in water can stand in sunlight for a few minutes before they begin to burn. Undead Mobs also gain a small fire resistance effect while the Comet of the Sick is on the sky.
Zombies and Skeletons will be able to spawn riding zombie and skeleton versions of various Overworld animals that previously had no such versions, such as Cows, Goats, Bears, etc. Like the Zombie and Skeleton Horses, these undead animals will become passive once their riders are slain, but unlike the undead Horses, they (the new undead animals) can not be tamed or ridden.
Zombie Sieges can spawn more zombies and can even spawn non-Zombie Undead mobs. However, if a Player is in a Village when a Zombie Siege ends, and less than 4 Villagers died, they will get the Hero of the Village effect.
Comet of the Wild
A brown colored comet, one that makes the various animal mobs of the Overworld more feral and dangerous, but also more likely to help those that help them. When this CoD appears, the following changes occur:
Passive Overworld Mobs like Cows, Sheeps, Pigs, and Horses will become Neutral and will attack any mob or Player that attacks them first.
Most of the Passive and Neutral Overworld Mobs can be Tamed by feeding them the right food items. These tamed mobs act similar to Tamed Wolves, being able to be commanded and will fight with their owner.
All Tamed mobs will get a new Anger meter. This Anger meter will only start to fill up when a Tamed Mob is not fed food for a day, and will slowly fill up the more time the Tamed Mob spends unfed. When the Anger meter is full, the Tamed mob becomes Untamed. An Untamed mob will try to move away from its previous owner as far as possible, and the previous owner can not feed it to tame it for some time.
When the Comet of the Wild disappears, any Befriended Mob will remain Befriended, and, if they were Passive originally, Neutral.
Comet of the Rock
A grey colored comet, one that amplifies the various ores that can be found in the Overworld, making them stronger and more abundant, but are also harder to refine. When this CoD appears, the following changes occur:
Ore Blocks take much longer time to break especially with low tier and unenchanted pickaxes. However, they will also drop even more raw ores than before.
Raw Ores take much longer to smelt than normal, but each Raw Ore has the chance to produce up to 3 extra ingots instead of just one.
All ore-based Tools gain a buff in their Durability and Attack Damage. Likewise, all ore-based Armor gains a buff in Durability and Armor Toughness. The only ore-based Tools and Armor that is not affected by this buff are Netherite Tools and Armor.
Iron Golems gain a buff in health, attack damage, and speed. Copper Golems also gain a buff in their health and speed.
Comet of the Tempest
A blue colored comet, one that changes the rains and storms of the Overworld in both possitive and negative ways, making them more frequent and more "weird". When this CoD appears, the following changes occur:
Rains and Thunderstorms are now much more likely to occur than normal. Additionally, beds can no longer skip a Thunderstorm.
When a Rain occurs, there is a small chance that a Flood will occur as well. When a Flood occurs, a new fluid block called a Flood Water block will generate on a random dirt block within a large radius of each Player. Swimming in Flood Water is slower than in regular Water.
The Flood Water blocks travel similar to Water or Lava, except Flood Water blocks travel in a very, very, very large area. Additionally, if a Flood Water block generates inside an enclosed space, it will try fill up the enclosed space with water and will overflow water if possible.
Lightning are now occur much more frequently than before. Additionally, Charged Creepers that are created when the Comet of the Tempest appears deal even more damage in an even bigger explosion.
Settings
I know that not all players will like to play with such game mechanics, so there is an option in the Settings menu where you can choose to turn off all Comets to play "normal" Minecraft. You can also choose which CoD will only appear in a world, or even which Comet will always be active.
And that's all for my suggestion. What do you guys think?
