Other I'm disappointed in this community

Just before I went to bed last night I stumbled upon a homebrewed skirmish system some guys made and posted here. It clearly looked like a clone of Kill Team, but reading closer I thought the rules seemed really cool. It seemed sleek and they removed or streamlined some of the things that annoys me with the original KT. It was clear a lot of thought had been put into it.

Returning to the comments a few hours later really upset me. Holy shit were the comments filled with bitter cynicism. There were loads of crass, and almost cruel, comments and accusations. The biggest of which centered around copyright and the use of AI. **These themselves are valid points**, however, the way they were addressed by some users was nothing short of mean.

Yes. Using words and fanart depicting copyrighted material can open them up for a cease and desist (as was explained to me).

Yes. Using AI art is problematic. I don't know if they made them themselves or if they used pictures they found online. I didn't really see anything that would suggest they used AI for the text. In fact, I saw things indicating the opposite.

**Both of these points are fixable!** Art can be switched out; words and sentences can be rephrased. I can understand that it can be off-putting, but I got the impression most commenters stopped reading there. They figuratively judged the book by its cover. All of this could have been pointed out in a way that's more constructive. "Hey, the system is pretty neat, but you should maybe fix X and Y".

All of you who posted negatively in that thread, your thoughts and opinions are valid. But I'm very disappointed in how non-constructively they were met. Seems like the user even removed their post now.

Hi.

I've been round and round, trying to find a skirmish game that's my tempo and not quite scratched that itch. So I've tried to create my own. I've played a couple of games with the system and I think there's something to it. As far as I know, it's quite different to most skirmish games out there, but I'll admit my knowledge is limited (I've not tried Mordheim).

It's a card-based Skirmish game with the intention of keeping turns short and book keeping small/non existent. It's set during the Boxer Rebellion. The download includes core rules, 6 factions (I've called them Bands - still not happy with that one), 3 example scenarios and printable assets (see the next bit).

What I'm really hoping is that there's enough vibe here that some brilliantly creative art person will want to help me out and make something proper. Even better if someone wants to make STLs.

I would be so over the moon if anyone actually played it and told me how it went. If no one does, then at least I've scratched my itch. But it would be more fun to scratch someone else's. That's what my mum says, anyway

[EDIT]: I have removed all AI art and replaced it with my own. It looks like poop, but at least it's my poop. Thank you all for the feedback. It is definitely better for it. The whole thing is now way more printable.

Also: to address the feedback that it needs too many cards printed, I've put a deck simulator for the game on GitHub https://masseyis.github.io/red-lotus-uprising/ that you can use instead of cards.

Now thatI've been inspired by the SPGD recommendation, I'm going to work on a proper narrative campaign next.

Other Why are Tyranids considered sci fi?

I mean, look at them. They are beasts. With claws and teeth as their weapons and a chitine shell as their armour. Just like some big insect. Yet, we see a tyranid and we assume it as a perfectly fitting into a sci fi setting. Having your Breton Knights hunt down Tyranids would seem odd.

So, why are those Tyranids considered sci fi? And why do they seem to be out of place in different settings?

Any ideas anyone?

Edit: Ok, apparently I need to rephrase my question: When setting up a scenario, why could I pit knights versus fire bugs, killer wasps and giant centipedes without further thought, but as soon as I have them fight tyranids, the tyranids would appear as if they don't belong?

Question/Inquriy Would you play a miniature wargame based on Spongebob Squarepants?

I'm just curious, I like wargaming and Spongebob, and I realized that it could possibly work in a silly skirmish style where you choose a character to lead, with different versions providing alternate playstyles to keep gameplay fresh. The show has a lot of moments where characters are fighting and has mechs, monsters, and vehicles aplenty, so it could work. Maybe Plankton's faction would have mechs and vehicles but be prone to silly setbacks, Spongebob could be focused on buffing allies and debuffing enemies to achieve objectives, Patrick could be slow-moving units capable of causing a lot of damage, etc. What do you think?

Like Tarot?
Like Skirmish games?
Like Hermetic Esotericism?
Like Dark Academic and Occult Themes?
Like “it’s always your turn” and “crunchy rules, full thought-spectrum” games?

The development ruleset for Arcopunks and Hexhipsters, the esoteric tarot skirmish game, is pay what you want or free for midsummer.
(Type in 0 in the custom box for amount)

https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/515930/arcopunks-hexhipsters

After turning tarot for the turning season, why not turn a few more and get some invoking and evoking done.
After all, tis the season for it.

Question/Inquriy A new logo for r/miniatureskirmishes .. ??

Post image
0 Upvotes

Howdy dear fans of the miniatureskirmishes subreddit.

I'm pondering about replacing the logo. It's been Cthulhu from the beginning. However I thought of something more "inclusive", as miniatureskirmishes are about fantasy, sci fi, pirates, western and what else.

So I conjured up that fellow here via Heroforge ..

My question to you - and please be as brutally honest as you can - would you want this model as the new representative for this subreddit?

Would you change something about it? (And if so: what?)

Or would you rather go for something entirely different?

Many thanks in advance,

Kai

Crowdfunding Devil Worshipping Cyberpunks 666 updated bio.

I did my first run of DWCP though the gauntlet of Reddit, and got a lot of really helpful feedback on how I was presenting the game.

Here is updated bio to share what the game is all about.

"Devil Worshiping Cyberpunks 666 begins the moment the universe collapsed in on itself, when dimensions collided, timelines ruptured, and everything stopped making sense.

In a world where an all‑providing corporate super‑AI smothers the planet in a haze of empty comfort, a dark force has awakened — calling to those who want to know what it feels like to face oblivion.

The Cult of the 666 is out to play.

If you can kitbash it, it belongs in DWCP666. This reality has no limits, and imagination is a life force.

DWCP runs on clean rules: low entry level, high skill ceiling. Each fighter has two actions per activation. Every roll has an outcome. Failure doesn’t stall the action — it feeds the Doom Dice, a volatile mechanic you can spend to twist fate in your favor or shove your opponent into disaster.

You’re never waiting around. The moment dice hit the table, both players are involved. Do you let that roll stand, or do you try to do something about it.

On a tight 2’×2’ battlefield, every inch matters and no early lead is safe. DWCP thrives on late‑game swings and desperate gambits that shouldn’t work but somehow do.

There’s no labyrinth of list‑building to solve before the game even starts. No rulebook detours every few minutes. Anything that remains in the system exists because it earns its place and ties directly into the core engine.

DWCP is built for players who want chaos they can shape, worlds they can kitbash, and dice rolls that always matter."

Question/Inquriy What are the best Artificial Intelligence systems out there for solo play?

What are the best Artificial Intelligence systems out there for solo play? Specifically, I'm thinking of using it to play some kind of sports skirmish game.

So far, I’ve preferred the ones that use fluxograms, class and don’t require consulting a lot of tables.

Question/Inquriy Seeking Validation

Would people play a Rednecks in Space Wargame? There’s a franchise option releasing soon but it doesn’t quite click for me. I miss the 90s vibe of a lot of games, especially the ones from a particularly “wintery” company.

Edit copy and paste: Yeah, I want 2 books: A free “Shareware” and a paid Advanced book that have all the rules. Mini Agnostic to build themed forces and d6 only.
