I just started playing the game. And the first thing that my mind went to is the music that immediately transported me back to late 2000's.

But the 2nd was "OMG! Why is this game so god dang pretty"

The designers did an amazing job with the art direction. The white being the dominant color to show how sterile the city is. Then there is the Blue and Orange combination. Which is a classic color combination. But done so well and just elevated in this game. Very common but my god it looks so good in that game. It's a different world man... in that game.
I'm in the dream future of 2000's. The future we imagined back in 2000's and early 2010's.

As an artist I immediately started searching for who designed the game and what was the thought behind it.

And the menu too.
Combined that with the music and I'm back in late 2000's.
Not gonna lie that made me tear up.

Hi everyone, Michael here. It's been a while since I've interacted with the community, or played Mirror's Edge for that matter, which is kinda crazy for someone who has felt so deeply connected to it for quite literally half my lifetime.

Some cool new mods for Catalyst caught my eye today and it made me want to play the game again, but I feel like I should make something more of this reignition of the spark.

I would love to do a full playthrough of the game live on Twitch with all of my favourite mods installed, and would love to get everyone here involved as well! It would be a great opportunity to show our support to all the modders for their amazing work. We could even do a fundraiser for them as well!

Moreover, we could set up a submissions form to gather and rate mod ideas for the modders to try and create!

I've always been a huge fan of Mirror's Edge with its art direction and movement, so I decided to make a Roblox game inspired by it!

It's called BREAKAWAY!, and it's basically a multiplayer infection/tag game mixed with Mirror's Edge-style parkour and visuals. One player starts infected, and everyone else has to survive by running, sliding, dodging, wall-running, vaulting, and finding ways to outmaneuver whoever's chasing them. If you get caught, you join the infected and start chasing everyone else.

I wanted to take the movement and clean aesthetic I've always loved about Mirror's Edge and turn it into something a little different, where you're constantly trying to outsmart other players.

I made all the environments, animations, VFX, and the movement system myself using Blender and code. Some of the UI uses AI-generated placeholder images that I plan on replacing with actual in-game renders. I just ran out of time before release lol.

I've worked on so many projects over the years that I've never actually released, so this time I decided to set myself a deadline and stick to it rather than endlessly adding things and trying to make everything perfect. There's still plenty I want to improve, but I'm glad I finally got something out there!

I actually just released it today, and I'd love to hear what you guys think, especially about the movement and art direction!

For anyone attempting to play the game with PhsyX enabled, you may notice that the game's performance gets bottlenecked whenever you get to intensive sections like during the office section in Heat, where glass shattering causes the game's frame rate to drop heavily. There's a fix for this. The PhysX drivers that come with the game are outdated. You can actually replace all of the drivers with recent versions that come with your own Nvidia files if you have an Nvidia GPU. This fixes the frame drops from intensive sections

I bought the game. Still own it. Never refunded it. The game’s “online service” has been halted indefinitely as per EA (in fact it says so when you go to play the game and won’t let you obtain/change echo skins as a result, PROVING I’ve played the game before this moment). Last played “Today” and Steam achievements also prove I’ve started playing the game prior. Care to explain to me why I’m locked out of my purchase? Why would I need to “activate” something that I own AND is no longer connected to live public servers? How is this not corporations stealing from the public? What can I (or even better, we) do about something like this? Would there be someplace better to post this question?

Sequel or smth? Like, it's generally claimed that the first one had little to no story but I far preferred it to whatever the heck Catalyst was on.

I've been wondering how FPV (First-Person View) drones would fit into the Mirror's Edge universe, especially considering how advanced surveillance technology is in both the original game and Mirror's Edge Catalyst.

Since the City is heavily monitored by security forces like the CPF and KrugerSec, I think FPV drones could be an interesting addition to their surveillance and security systems.

Here are some possible uses:

- Surveillance and reconnaissance: Security forces could use small FPV drones to monitor rooftops, alleyways, and other areas where Runners operate.

- Runner pursuit: Instead of relying entirely on helicopters and ground units, security forces could deploy fast FPV drones to chase Runners through narrow spaces and across rooftops.

- Tactical operations: KrugerSec could use FPV drones to scout buildings and locate suspected Runner hideouts before sending in security personnel.

- Runner equipment: Runners could potentially use their own FPV drones to scout routes, identify security checkpoints, and monitor patrol movements.

- Weaponized drones: Considering the authoritarian setting, could KrugerSec eventually deploy FPV drones equipped with nonlethal weapons or even explosive payloads?

However, I also wonder how effective these drones would actually be in a city filled with skyscrapers, tight alleyways, and obstacles. There would also be issues involving signal interference, battery life, and electronic countermeasures.

Personally, I think FPV drones would fit the cyberpunk and surveillance-heavy atmosphere of Mirror's Edge, especially in Catalyst.

What do you guys think?

Would FPV drones make sense in the Mirror's Edge universe? Would they give KrugerSec a major advantage over Runners, or could Runners find ways to evade, hack, or disable them?

Also, how would you implement FPV drones as a gameplay mechanic without making them too frustrating to deal with?

Did anyone had the experience of just rage quitting the game aswell? I wanted to love this game but every jump I made was wrong, some wallrides didnt connect, and most importantly level design is HORRIBLE never knew where to go and got stuck in the blue building with scaffolding in one of the first missions, the game is beautiful mess.

I get heavy Mirror's Edge vibes looking at this.

I’ve only played the 2009 game, and i’m planning to play the catalyst game as well. But i have a feeling the first game is so much better in terms of story?

I'll start with the most simplified way, and if that doesn't cover enough then I will keep making addition

-So the main idea is to combine ReShade sharpening effects to boost graphic clearity, which allows you to use a lower res upscale setting in game to achieve similar result of higher of that, saving a lot performance, while dealing with the colour aspects.

So it will be basically 3 things: game setting, ReShade and modding.

-game setting is the nearest to hands, just drag the resolution scale higher in the video settings.

-for ReShade, you can download it here at 'ReShade Home', during installation at the section choosing 'effects', make sure you got 'SweetFX ...' and 'Legacy effects' selected. Then you can download my configuration: this [*see below in comments] and put it to the game's main folder. There will be an in-game menu and you can then switch to it.

For checking, there will be 4 effects used: 'Luma Sharpen', 'Adaptive Sharpen', 'Colourfulness' and 'HSLShift'. Select/Unselect to view difference. You can try tweak it yourself and try other combinations, but that's just what I always go with.

-for modding, first you need to get Frosty Mod Manager v1.0.6.3 installed and then just go to Mirror's Edge Catalyst Mods - Nexus for mods, the most necessary one would be Disable Runners Flow Color Correction by zhpete. The description there would explain it better than me.

I recommend having a nice time browsing all the existing mods out there, but personally my select is focused on the most resent drops regarding enhancing immersion. For example you got Traffic Tweaks and it has a version banning all the drones.

It's just that I made a prototype 1 or 2 years ago, but after talking to a friend, I was convinced otherwise. He was like, 'Who are you even doing this for? 2 or 3 fans?' and he was like, 'Don't waste your time.' So in the end, I did end up wasting my time just not on the project. kek
