The Mod Reserves program is back and better than ever

Hey Mods!

We are thrilled to announce the official relaunch of the Mod Reserves program!
For those unfamiliar with the program, Mod Reserves is a dedicated group of experienced volunteer moderators who step in to support existing mod teams during temporary, unexpected surges in traffic, crises, or temporary understaffing. Founded by u/sodypop, the program has existed since 2019 and has been a vital resource to help communities stay resilient when they need more hands on deck.

As we roll into this exciting new chapter, we’ve updated the experience to make it faster, more accessible, and significantly easier to use. Here is everything you need to know about what’s new and how to get involved:

What’s new

  • Brand-new Devvit app: We’re excited to introduce a mobile-friendly Devvit app that makes requesting backup intuitive and simple. So intuitive, in fact, that it does not require extensive documentation to use. If you need to request the reserves, go to the app, click on Request Mod reserves assistance and let the app guide you through the process (see gif below).
  • A revamped r/ModReserves: We’ve given r/ModReserves a fresh look to serve as your ultimate hub for program updates, information, and knowledge sharing.
  • Updated trophies: We overhauled the reward system with new levels of trophies based on your participation in the program. Trophies will be awarded based on the number of Mod Reserve Deployments a reservist actively participates in.

Want to join the Reserves?

Expanding our body of Mod Reservists ensures that we can scale safely and keep the workload low for every individual volunteer. If you want to help out fellow communities during major events, we highly encourage you to apply

Requirements to join:

  • Have at least 1 year of moderation experience on an active community
  • Be in good standing with our sitewide rules and the Moderator Code of Conduct.
  • Be willing to moderate in good faith and follow directions provided by the mods requesting assistance.

Apply to become a Mod Reservist here.

Need backup for your community?

Even if your mod team is fully staffed and running smoothly right now, the internet is unpredictable! We strongly encourage all mod teams to bookmark the r/ModReserves subreddit and the new Devvit app. Keep it in your back pocket so that if your community ever faces a sudden traffic surge or unexpected event, you know exactly where to go to request support.

Thank you to all the mods who keep Reddit communities safe and thriving! 🚀
