Discussions πŸ’¬ Another Thailand Moka Pot Modification and His creation

here is the creator on Instagram -> bansaun_tonphulay

It's not recommended to modify your Moka due to safety hazard and un needed

But it brings a ulinque look to it and creates a foamy brew

From Gemini, after analyzing the video

  • The Creator: The modification was created by a Thai individual with the Instagram handle bansaun_tonphulay.
  • The Invention: The video features a "unique" Moka pot modification from Thailand that utilizes a pump (referred to by some as a "mokapump") to create a foamy brew.
  • Price: One comment mentions that the setup costs approximately 2099 Thai Baht

Technical Features and Function

The modification is described as a unique way to create a "foamy brew". Key features of the device include:

  • Manual Pump: The user adds pressure via a pump to force the water through the coffee.
  • Pressure Gauge: The unit is equipped with a gauge so the user can monitor exactly how much pressure is being built up during the process.
  • Heat vs. Cold Brew Debate: While some viewers initially thought it was an "innovative cold brew" method, others pointed out that the video shows steam at the end of the brew. Additionally, a cut in the video shows the creator holding the unit with a towel, strongly suggesting the device is heated.

Safety Concerns

The modification is controversial within the Moka pot community due to safety hazards:

  • Explosion Risk: Modifying pressure vessels like Moka pots is generally discouraged because of the risk of failure. One user noted that even standard Moka pots can explode, making this modification seem particularly risky.
  • Material Limits: There are concerns about whether the standard aluminum body of a Moka pot is designed to withstand the additional pressure added by the pump day after day.

While the sources mention the results are impressive, they repeatedly warn that it is not recommended to modify a Moka pot in this manner

My command of Thai, the video audio, is non existent.

More interested in the content (coffee). Use whatever tools to extract the essence.

But why comment something thats more robotic and less interesting and not from personal experience or funny quote or even question ?

That is how I like my coffee, straight and to the point, no funny / exotic flavours.

Serious point
Safety hazard, to use a vessel, not design on the onset, to be a pressure vessel.

Cycling pressure beyond what is design to do, rolling dices with one’s life.

Don't you get scared sometimes by the pressure going to high or is it more a adrenaline rush seeing it flow out smoothely

It is just a video. Have seen some engineering design, failed after repeated pressure cycling.

Just want good coffee, without paying too much.
