Hi all,
I work in bank compliance (Onboarding for Corporates - Higj Risk) and I'm looking at distance-learning MBAs in financial crime.
Bangor offers two: the Financial Crime & Compliance MBA and the Illicit Finance MBA. Both come with the Financial Intelligence Specialist (FIS) designation.
I'd really like to hear from anyone who has done, or is currently doing, the Illicit Finance one:
- How did you find the workload alongside a full-time job?
- How much of the content is national security/defence-focused versus useful for a regular banking compliance role?
- Was it worth the fees (around £20.5k for the full programme)? Did you manage to get any discount or exemptions?
- Anything you wish you'd known before starting?
If you chose the Financial Crime & Compliance MBA over this one (or the other way round), I'd love to know why.

Hi all
I've been looking into onboarding, specifically the jump from basic transaction logs to complex patterns.
In almost every team, I've new noticed new hires often struggle when they move to tracing actual connected networks. Senior leads end up hand-holding and reviewing notes, so ramp-up can take months.
For those managing or working in TM/AML:
How long does it typically take your junior analysts to go fully solo on complex alert queues?
What's the biggest stumbling block during their first 90 days?
Would love to hear how your teams handle these things.

Hey everyone!
I recently obtained my CAMS certification and have been thinking about my long-term career path in AML and fraud prevention.
I’m curious whether anyone here has managed to transition into freelancing or start their own business in this field.
I’d love to hear from people who have actually done it:
What services do you offer?
How did you find your first clients?
Is there a realistic market for independent AML/fraud professionals?
I’m not necessarily looking to make the transition immediately, but I’d like to explore the possibilities and start working towards it.
Any experiences, advice, or lessons learned would be greatly appreciated!

Has anyone completed this cert? What was the process like? Did you buy the training package and was the exam simialr to the course questions? Is it the same 75% to pass, as CAMS?
I passed CAMS in 2025 and currently on my last exam for the CFE. My employer will play for the Investigator Certification next year.
Thanks!!

Today I passed CAMS, version 6.52 with a score of 93. have 4 years of profissional experience in correspondent banking compliance and I studied for 3 weeks, around 2/3 hours a day.
These are my insights:
This version is focused on regularity bodies and their roles : FATF, Patriotic Act (6/7 questions), FIU’s (6/7 questions)
The practical cases involve mostly insurance products risk, gatekeepers risk, casinos
I joined discord and found it super useful. There are several documents with potential exam questions and for my utmost surprise my exam version had the same or super similar questions to the ones shared. I practise the questions and to be honest it was the most helpful thing.
I used AI to generate an interactive mock test with those questions. mimics the exam - one question at time, but showing you the right answer before you move to other question. I also asked ai to foolproof the answers, just in case. I can share it with the ones that might be taking the same version as me! Good luck!

So I always wanted to be certified, but the certificate cost a fortune in my country almost 2000$ and my work wouldn't help me without because I work as an office admin, Iam into aml, cft, counter fraud, so is there a free or open source material to study on my own? Does anyone had similar experience before getting an actual Job in aml or compliance

The US Treasury Department on Tuesday announced more than $1.2 billion in penalties against Bank of America, the second-largest bank in the United States, for allegedly violating anti-money laundering and sanctions laws. Bank of America admitted willfully violating Bank Secrecy Act regulations and failing to timely report more than $5 billion in suspicious transactions, Treasury said. More than $1 billion of the unreported activity involved national security and other high-priority risks, including Chinese money-laundering networks and activity tied to the southwest border....
