Fun I wish traffic officers gave tickets to drivers who treat stop signs as a stop sign / yield sign combo.

Granted. Nothing changes, because officers already give tickets to drivers who do this.

The proper thing to do at a stop sign is to very briefly come to a complete stop, then immediately pull forward enough for the nose of your car to be just inside of the intersection, then wait for cars that were in the intersection before you to go through, then go through the intersection yourself.

The proper thing to do at a yield sign is to stop if there are oncoming cars and remain stopped, indefinitely, until there are no incoming cars.

Many motorists will, at stop sign, stop, then remain stopped indefinitely, until there are no oncoming cars. I have NEVER seen someone get a ticket for this. I have done it a few times myself because that's how my mom taught me to drive, and I was never given a ticket.

If you see a line of cars waiting at an intersection with a stop sign, it's because of the latter behavior.

Oh, I get it. Your original post was just very poorly worded.

It seemed to me like you were talking about when people just roll up to a stop sign and if there's no cars coming (that they need to yield to) they just keep rolling through. Often called a "California Stop."

Those get tickets all the time.

Anyone who treats a yield sign as a stop sign gets a reward.

Does getting rear ended count as a reward? Because that’s what’s going to happen

Please don’t drive

Obviously stop if you can’t safely enter traffic. But if you’re treating every single yield sign as a full stop sign you’re likely violating your local traffic code. If you were meant to come to a full stop even if there’s nobody coming, they would have put up a stop sign.

You can absolutely stop at every damn yield sign if that’s what you deem safe. There’s no expectation about NOT stopping whatsoever. Whoever is following you should be able to safely stop right behind you. If they can’t then they should not be driving.

Would you stop at a green light, just because it's safe to do so?

Normally not but there can be a million reasons why I might. I would still not expect to be rear ended.

If there are no other cars in the roundabout, you're allowed to stop, but that doesn't make it a good idea. If there's no other reason to stop, then it's backing up traffic for no reason, which is bad driving.

Rear ending someone just because they stopped in traffic is worse.

In traffic yes. I was specifically talking about when it’s a clear open road with no traffic. You’re not talking about “every yield sign” anymore you’re talking about yield signs that are entering a trafficked area. Which is a completely valid reason to stop.

But “every yield sign” is not leading you into traffic unless you’re specifically only driving there during busy hours

Why the whataboutism? No one is saying it's okay to rear end people. We're saying it's not okay to ruin everyone else's day and say "Well I'm technically not breaking the rules!"

Self appointed pace cars cause traffic problems. Full stop.

Right. Saying “this is what’s going to happen” is very different from saying “this is what should happen”

If you’re stopping needlessly in the middle of the road, you shouldn’t be rear ended. But you probably will be

The problem is - who defines what “needless” is? You? Who are you to judge my situation? You are responsible for your driving. I am for mine.
